What’s the best TV Series you’ve watched in the last 5 years?

For me it’s the German Series Dark on Netflix and the American series 1883 which is Paramount + but has now turned up on Netflix.

Dark which was about time travel really made you think and 1883 about Pioneer life/Cowboys was just quietly beautiful

I did t think I would like it at all but have just watched all series of Motherland and loved it.
I like Scandi crime and love The Sandhamm Murders on Prime ( though the books are better I think)

Based on shows that have been released in the past 5 years:

The Long Shadow- about the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. It's available on ITV Hub, was excellent and heartbreaking.

Mindhunter on Netflix. Brilliant and I'm still gutted it got cancelled.

Power- I think I can squeeze this in as the final season aired 5 years ago! Has some great spin-offs now too.

Blueskies77 · 10/05/2025 22:31

i loved the Detectorists. Such a wholesome show, I blitzed through it. Dark is incredible, I agree!

LyndzB · 10/05/2025 22:31

Handmaids tale
Fleabag
Newsroom
The west wing (another Aaron Sorkin)

Most of these are not in the last five years! I liked Fallout on Amazon, Severance and Silo.

The OP said ‘watched’ in the last five years, rather than released in the last five years, and I’m sure a lot of people end up watching things a couple of years after they’re first available.

I May Destroy You
Sticks and Stones
Both of which I think were on in 2020 so just within 5 years. Very well made, seemed so real I thought.

Still outraged by the cancellation of OA

Same! I loved it.

@Florally The thing about The Handmaids Tale is that in all the terrible things that happen so consistently as to normalise them, there’s that ONE episode that just goes that bit too far and because of it I doubt I could face a rewatch as good as the show is.

Out of curiosity which episode was that as my Step sisters husband was the director for 12 episodes

notprincehamlet · 10/05/2025 22:35

Succession
The Bureau (think the last series was 2020 so it just scrapes in)

Picklelily99 · 10/05/2025 22:36
  • Sorry, that was supposed to be a completely separate post!

Outlander. Set off a years long obsession that has only just faded. My eldest's conception was thanks to it!

BigCheese24 · 10/05/2025 22:36

Inside Man on Netflix with David Tennant is only 4 episodes but it’s bloody tremendous.

dapsnotplimsolls · 10/05/2025 22:37

Happy Valley.

VeganStar · 10/05/2025 22:38

Outlander
Chernobyl
Line of duty
The Walking Dead
The last of Us
Black Mirror

2021x · 10/05/2025 22:38

Mindhunter - I'm sure I've read that they are going to make another series after all.

Hermiaxx · 10/05/2025 22:38

Another vote for Succession (also liked Slow Horses and Better Call Saul)

So much choice now but really most of what’s on TV is pretty dire and hardly worth watching!

FiendsandFairies · 10/05/2025 22:39

PansyPottering · 10/05/2025 21:31

I absolutely loved Disclaimer on Apple. I couldn’t watch anything else for days after I finished it.

Disclaimer was laughably awful! I remember The Guardian review saying “You’ll even hate the cat!”

Kayjay2018 · 10/05/2025 22:39

Ooh - would be between Slow Horses and Ted Lasso

OneMintWasp · 10/05/2025 22:40

Band of Brothers-its a lot older than 5 years but I re-watch it every few years. Absolutely love it.

Isittimeformetosleep · 10/05/2025 22:40

Loved The Outlaws and Ludwig on BBC recently

Soukmyfalafel · 10/05/2025 22:40

I cant choose one really. All very different. Maybe some not quite within 5 years though.

Chernobyl
Dark
Severence
Slow Horses
Unforgotten (Discovered this later)
Years and Years

For something more gentle:
Detectorists
This Country
Gone Fishing with Mortimer and Whitehouse 😀

StrongandNorthern · 10/05/2025 22:41
