New drama series starts wed and thur for 3w

Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases.

A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides but she yearns for more.

A brilliant, self-taught criminologist, Patience has an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving.

Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) is the first person to spot and utilize her talent, which opens a door into a whole new world for Patience.

Patience attends a regular support group for autistic adults where they discuss the barriers in operating in a neuro-typical world and how best to navigate it.

All neuro-divergent characters within the series will be played by neuro-diverse actors, including the title role of Patience.

Patience has a special interest in solving puzzles and a secret interest and talent for criminology as she can read a case file or a crime scene and make connections that others can’t.

Detective Bea recognises Patience’s unique insight and takes her under her wing.

She wants her to work with her team on the frontline of policing.

As they start to become more closely involved professionally, however, it becomes clear that they may have a more profound and lasting impact on each other’s lives.

That storyline is v. familiar. Sure there was a Netflix series, French, I think, with the woman's name in the title...

[short delay]

Astrid! that's the puppy! I like Mark Benton, but not keen on these re-makes if I've already seen the original.

Just series linked this, thank you. Looks good 👍

I think it's based on a French series

It definitely sounds like a direct lift from the French series Astrid. It was shown on More4, so it's probably still available on Channel 4 if you don't have Netflix. It was very good, definitely worth watching.

Another The Out-Laws/Bad Sisters situation.

JewelleryCat · 02/01/2025 15:44

I really like Astrid: Murder in Paris so I’m hoping I’ll like this

deeahgwitch · 02/01/2025 16:03

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun for the heads up.

So did I. I thought it was a plot-line that could have gone horribly wrong, but in fact it was dealt with well. Can't see me watching a re-make, though.

Considering the actress who plays Astrid isn’t autistic, she is amazing in the role and I think this will be interesting in its own way because from what I read, everyone who worked on Patience has some form of ND

It’s very hard for girls and women to get diagnosed unfortunately. Also, did you notice in the social group that Beatrice’s phone said 07:04 when I’m sure a social group would meet in the evening instead of the morning

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2025 22:55

So rude she followed and went to her group

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2025 22:57

@JewelleryCat I just assumed she had her phone set to 12hrs

My friend does this where mine is 24 so would have said 19.04
