New drama series starts wed and thur for 3w

Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases.

A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides but she yearns for more.

A brilliant, self-taught criminologist, Patience has an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving.

Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) is the first person to spot and utilize her talent, which opens a door into a whole new world for Patience.

Patience attends a regular support group for autistic adults where they discuss the barriers in operating in a neuro-typical world and how best to navigate it.

All neuro-divergent characters within the series will be played by neuro-diverse actors, including the title role of Patience.

Patience has a special interest in solving puzzles and a secret interest and talent for criminology as she can read a case file or a crime scene and make connections that others can’t.

Detective Bea recognises Patience’s unique insight and takes her under her wing.

She wants her to work with her team on the frontline of policing.

As they start to become more closely involved professionally, however, it becomes clear that they may have a more profound and lasting impact on each other’s lives.

Ah, so a new season of Astrid, then. I think I'll hang on for that.

Yeah 🙂 not sure when it’ll be arriving but I’m happy it’s back. I also thought that in Patience, they’re trying to speed everything up like with Alfie and his ADHD referral whereas in real life, it would take ages and ages to get a diagnosis wouldn’t it even with a referral in primary school?

I'm new to Astrid and I just love it. The humour is great and the chemistry between the two leads is incredible. The social skills group is highlight too.

No at lunchtime

I'm sure it was at pick up time because she rang Patience to pick him up

deeahgwitch · 16/01/2025 13:05

"...and why didn’t anyone see him carry a dead body with all the cctv ?"
Was she just concussed and went back there herself ???
What had the taxi man who had changed his name because of a previous sexual charge to do with it ?
Did he drop her back in her wet confused state ?
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

purpleme12 · 16/01/2025 13:46

I stopped caring about it to be honest

The exterior is The Grand Hotel ( used to be railway offices ).
I've never been in , but I suspect that none of the interior is that hotel .
The room where the guy was in the bath had wood beams which wouldn't be in that style of building.
When Violetta's sister is confronted by Bea , she runs past some European plug sockets on her way to the stairs .

I've stayed at the Grand and it's lovely inside but I don't think the interior of it was on the TV show.

I really liked the show but agree the details don't necessarily make sense. Which is OK for me, I'm happy not to think too hard about it all. 😀

The first time when they went with his lunch and showed him the dinosaur claw thing

and then they left him and went back to car

I’ve binged. I’ve loved it!
I’ll be back when all episodes are done.

diddl · 16/01/2025 19:25

I've watched the first two which I quite enjoyed.

What is Patience's actual job?

I wasn't sure why she would have been reading so many files.

purpleme12 · 16/01/2025 19:27

She has access to confidential files
I believe she files away Investigations of crimes when they're finished with (although I'm sure there's more to her job than that!)

Bankholidayhelp · 16/01/2025 20:00

Just catching up with episode 3 and pleased to see York looking fabulous.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2025 21:10

What did everyone think? I thought the scenes were very dark and everyone seems cold and standoffish to Patience

purpleme12 · 16/01/2025 22:24

I kept watching it but came to realise I just don't careabout the programme or the characters

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2025 22:34

She doesn’t like to be told off or corrected and goes off in a strop

Patience you mean? Well that’s her autism mainly because she feels so strongly that she is right that she can’t hear anyone tell her that her theory might be wrong so that’s why she might go off in a strop but she’s also processing it with something that comforts her like her puzzles then once she’s processed, she’ll go back and try again

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2025 22:56

Yes. I get that. But she seems to take it to extreme - or maybe I’m not very understanding

knkw a lot of kids with autism but seems adults as a different ball game

but it’s good she goes back once processed it

is astrid the same ? May try and watch e1 of that this weekend

I can see how she can take it to extremes but also, autistics and you’ve probably seen this yourself, they hyper fixate on things and then when they’re told no, you’re wrong etc, that doesn’t compute in their heads so that’s why I said above about going to calm down and processing

I think you should definitely try Astrid and please do tell me your thoughts. The actress who plays Astrid isn’t autistic but that doesn’t matter to me and I think Astrid and Raph (who is like Bea but much warmer) have a lovely friendship so some bits are the same and you might just like episode 1 because it’s very similar to Patience

bibliomania · 17/01/2025 09:00

Teen DD and I both want to improve our French, so we're alternating the English version and the French version - it's helpful knowing what's happening, so you can concentrate on the language. I like seeing the contrasting shots of York and Paris, I particularly like the actresses playing Patience and the French detective, and the cultural differences are interesting, like the French police bristling with firepower.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2025 15:07

@JewelleryCat so the only astrid version there is - is French but English subtitles

is that right ?
