New drama series starts wed and thur for 3w

Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases.

A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides but she yearns for more.

A brilliant, self-taught criminologist, Patience has an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving.

Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) is the first person to spot and utilize her talent, which opens a door into a whole new world for Patience.

Patience attends a regular support group for autistic adults where they discuss the barriers in operating in a neuro-typical world and how best to navigate it.

All neuro-divergent characters within the series will be played by neuro-diverse actors, including the title role of Patience.

Patience has a special interest in solving puzzles and a secret interest and talent for criminology as she can read a case file or a crime scene and make connections that others can’t.

Detective Bea recognises Patience’s unique insight and takes her under her wing.

She wants her to work with her team on the frontline of policing.

As they start to become more closely involved professionally, however, it becomes clear that they may have a more profound and lasting impact on each other’s lives.

I am confused (again)

It seems like Patience brought in Paul's clothes to the mortuary. But then it looks like the mortuary person told her to take them and wash them? But she'd just taken them in?

And ... Why do they ask if Paul could have left on his own? If he's dead?

Patience took the clothes that Paul had died in to wash.

The clothes she took in to the mortuary were clothes that his brother had taken for him to be dressed in I think.

There were in a carrier bag on his bike & he didn't want to go back in.

I guess the whole point was the tie that was used as a tourniquet when it supposedly had been put on a corpse!

diddl · 25/01/2025 21:08

I liked it as I do like mysteries & it was a pretty easy watch.

I thought it was odd that the pathologist(s) on the bus had breathing apparatus(?) but Bea was allowed on with a simple mask.

Surely it's either safe or it isn't?

Bankholidayhelp · 26/01/2025 11:58

I think I've sussed why I don't find it as good a watch as Astrid. They don't show as much of Patiences' thought process as they do in Astrid. In Astrid you can see the links being made in 'real time' in Astrid's head. The set is more romantically brutalist as well in Astrid. York just looks dismal 90% if the time, almost a stereotype of 'grim up north'

The scenes with the umbrellas irk me big time. It feels like a trope of some sort

Well I won't be tuning in for the next series...

When Patience was shot and Bea got poorly and Patience was distressed I just felt like I couldn't care less and I'm not sure that's what the writers were going for. 😂

I don't think she was shot though? Just got the gun pointed at her.

purpleme12 · 26/01/2025 12:25

Yeah you're right

But either way I couldn't couldn't care about it!

You’re right. I much prefer Astrid and everything seems more slow burning with her friendships to her relationship but with Patience, it felt like the forensic man liked her and the next second, they’re kissing. I also felt that in Patience, everyone was annoyed by having her around whereas in Astrid, they didn’t seem to really be annoyed with her

Toddlerteaplease · 26/01/2025 21:56

Only just watched this. I've seen the first two episodes, which I enjoyed. It's very similar to Ludwig. I love York, but the shots of a city that obviously isn't York. Are putting me off a bit. (Think it's Antwerp)

purpleme12 · 26/01/2025 21:58

While there are some similarities to Ludwig, I didn't feel the programme was similar to it at all.
I thought Ludwig was one of the best programmes out there.
While I couldn't care less about this one

I have to agree

I thought with the first episode and working things out it was similar

I take it back

Did you watch S1 of Astrid or just S4 which is on More4 on Fridays? I think to understand Astrid, do watch S1 if you haven’t already

duc748 · 29/01/2025 22:31

I'm still on S3 of Astrid. I just watched the vampire episode.

Only S1 so far.

deeahgwitch · 01/02/2025 15:25

Having seen 2 episodes of Astrid in Paris I prefer Patience as a series.
Astrid's senior policewoman colleague acting like a love sick 14year old 🙄
I thought the French were supposedly more sophisticated in love matters Smile

Would a neuro divergent woman like Astrid be able to stick around a hairdresser for her hair to blonde ?

Pennnyforthright · 07/02/2025 02:00

I really loved Patience in this. Great acting!

mum2jakie · 08/02/2025 20:02

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/01/2025 22:02

Another weird episode but least understood this one

so what’s the number in the box from her mum

Only just watched the final episode. What was under the label on the box - an address or telephone number for her mum I guess? 🤔

Hermyknee · 25/02/2025 17:26

Patience was very much superior to Ludwig.
Ludwig was smug and inconsistent with its characters.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2025 20:58

Those who prefer Astrid, like me, have you noticed that the latest series started on More 4 on Fridays (2 episodes down so far)? I haven't seen any threads on it here. Just saying in case you missed it.
