New drama series starts wed and thur for 3w

Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis) works in the criminal records department of Yorkshire Police, cataloguing and filing the evidence produced during major cases.

A young autistic woman, she craves routine and order, relishing the solitude and structure her job provides but she yearns for more.

A brilliant, self-taught criminologist, Patience has an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving.

Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) is the first person to spot and utilize her talent, which opens a door into a whole new world for Patience.

Patience attends a regular support group for autistic adults where they discuss the barriers in operating in a neuro-typical world and how best to navigate it.

All neuro-divergent characters within the series will be played by neuro-diverse actors, including the title role of Patience.

Patience has a special interest in solving puzzles and a secret interest and talent for criminology as she can read a case file or a crime scene and make connections that others can’t.

Detective Bea recognises Patience’s unique insight and takes her under her wing.

She wants her to work with her team on the frontline of policing.

As they start to become more closely involved professionally, however, it becomes clear that they may have a more profound and lasting impact on each other’s lives.

A fair few of us didn't get enough detail about what happened and why then

That’s completely understandable, some people aren’t good with subtitles. I love them so I don’t mind them lol. I’m not sure if anyone has dubbed Astrid into English anywhere but keep trying with Patience. For me, I shouldn’t but I compare Astrid and Patience lol and the people

I love subtitles for English shows, I always have them on (unless the subtitles and spoken script don’t match up, my absolute pet hate when the audio says one thing and the subtitles don’t quite match up so the audio will say ‘No problem, see you later’ but the subtitles say ‘No worries, catch you soon’ for example. I never get why some shows do this!) but I just find it hard to concentrate on them for a whole show, I switch between reading the subtitles and listening to the audio in English but can’t do that in a foreign language show, I end up repeatedly having to rewind and rewatch because I looked away and missed something!

And I totally understand how you would compare Astrid and Patience if you’ve watch both and the other people; are there a lot of differences in the show or are they very similar but just with subtle differences? Do you think the actor playing Patience has brought anything different to her character because she’s ND herself?

I would say that they are very similar in some aspects but also different. Astrid and Patience both like puzzles, it’s the special interest and they both go to the support group. Patience has a cat and a couple of rats, Astrid doesn’t. They both don’t like touch either and other examples like that. Patience lives with her godfather but in Astrid, Astrid lives on her own. Astrid also likes Japanese culture but we haven’t seen that with Patience yet or even if we will

I’m not sure if she has brought anything to her character with being ND. In all honesty, I was more focused on the differences lol but I did think that when she was walking down The Shambles, she could just look like anyone else with headphones in which is probably what she was going for whereas Astrid has a different gait

(Edited to say, sorry it’s so long!)

What I noticed in that scene was they both wear their trousers at half mast (above the ankles) though.

So maybe I was dozing ...but what happened to the victim ? 🤷‍♀️ it was hinted at but what actually happened to her?

JewelleryCat · 11/01/2025 08:56

@ProjectBanana I wonder if you could help. In one outside scene before Bea went to talk to the ladies in the hotel, the outside of the hotel had a couple of topiaries shaped like top hats. Do you know where that hotel might be?

deeahgwitch · 11/01/2025 09:17

As i understood it, the 17 year old naive Violetta (?) was warned not to go as a hostess on to the boat with the 4 men by her sister the murderer. She didn’t trust the men.
But Violette was saving to go to the UK and took the job as the money was good.
Violette was killed afaik
Was her body dumped at sea ?
Her sister knew the men had killed her
and killed them in revenge.
The above is what I understood to have happened.
The Guardian gave it an awful review.
I liked the show.

The exterior is The Grand Hotel ( used to be railway offices ).
I've never been in , but I suspect that none of the interior is that hotel .
The room where the guy was in the bath had wood beams which wouldn't be in that style of building.
When Violetta's sister is confronted by Bea , she runs past some European plug sockets on her way to the stairs .

Oh thank you 🙂 I was googling but didn’t get anywhere as per usual lol and remembered you said above you like to play York/not York lol. I didn’t even notice the beams or the European plug sockets

I got that part @deeahgwitch

but couldn’t work out how she killed all 4 men with the same drug and how it made them do weird things

I said before they seemed in a trance

I found this now that I knew what to search for. There’s no spoilers, it just tells you where it’s filmed in some episodes https://www.atlasofwonders.com/2025/01/where-is-patience-filmed.html
