I'm in tears. Maybe I'm just emotional but can't believe how much the show means to me

And the ending... tidy!

Ruth Jones said on something that she liked the idea that they were all still living their lives it’s just we weren’t part of it anymore. And I think that was the perfect ending.

I love that @Maximusdecimus

BackToRealitySigh · 26/12/2024 00:04

Loved it - tears but not as many as there will be when I'm home alone and re-watching it tomorrow.
There were little things like the stripper vs the selfies approach to the hen do that highlighted how the world has changed in 17 years, and you can't go back and things be the same.
Brilliant & perfect ending for me. Mick....Rudi super.

I thought it was a good ending.

However I don’t like how they made Nessa and smithy the protagonists the last few years. It’s not a storyline I’m emotionally invested in. It’s Gavin n Stacey, not smithy n Nessa.

Also they said once you see it, you will see why they won’t make anymore- but I thought to myself there’s so many stories to tell!

Id love to see Stacey as a MIL, she’d be as mad a Pam. Gavin n Stacey moving to Essex to be closer to Pam and Mick who are getting older etc. Brynn meeting someone, Neil the baby getting a GF etc.

Leave it a few years but they could do back …

It’s always been about Nessa and Smithy. They’ve always been the protagonists.

Pebbles16 · 26/12/2024 00:08

Just finished. Loved it

Yeah, Cordon saying a few days ago we’ll all see there could never be another series was a proper lie. No reason at all we couldn’t have another one. Not saying we should but, you know, we could…

Nah, Ruth Jone's loves him and that's a good enough recommendation for me.

TheGrinchsBallsack · 26/12/2024 00:19

I loved it and laughed and cried a lot. I needed a good cry after the last year or so so it was the perfect vehicle to get it all out!

Bitchneyspears · 26/12/2024 00:04

It’s always been about Nessa and Smithy. They’ve always been the protagonists.

Not the first series they weren’t. It was centred on Gavin n Stacey but that changed series 2 and 3.

Oh people love to hate success. You have never met the man. He might be a delight

Tidy

At the hen party She said that Smithy had paid for everything - so perhaps that’s why it was a long engagement!

If I was Smithy I'd be really pissed off my friends spent 5 years biting their tongues then waited till I'd paid for everything and finally found a voice.

Maybe it took 5 years for him to pay for everything?

Smithy must have some serious self esteem issues to put up with her for years. I'd like to have heard him talk about it. I felt the ending scenes were rushed I'd rather he had a bit of soul searching instead of running off in his wedding suit. His character seemed to be the only one that really changed and matured and I think he was an interesting one.

janfebmar87 · 26/12/2024 00:35

I have say. I enjoyed it.

But I feel no compulsion to watch it again

I have watched every other episode several times

flatpack1 · 26/12/2024 00:38

Sobbed my stupid eyes out

lavendarwillow · 26/12/2024 00:39

Truth be told it was absolutely brilliant, couldn't fault it.

Took me back to a happier world.

Pl242 · 26/12/2024 00:39

I enjoyed it. It was very in keeping with it as a show. Some of the tropes felt a bit overkill but it feeds into the nostalgia of it all. loved the start when they all get plastered at Pam and Mick’s - they were my favourite episodes of the old series.

Made me feel old when I realise that some of the music I like (that Macabees track for example in this episode) is a dozen years old.

I thought it was good that Gavin was the one to speak up in the end. He’s a quiet character compared to the others but he puts his neck out for his best mate and I liked that.

I agree there’s no reason they couldn’t do another series (I don’t think they should, I think it’s had its time) but they could. I think some of the promo had people thinking someone central would die (we did think Gwen might be ill, but turns out she was just shagging Dave Coaches…).

Sonia was a brilliantly written and acted character. Dawn and Pete still my favourites though.

Oh and hard disagree with PPs re Smithy and Nessa encroaching as main characters. Gavin and Stacey has never been about Gavin and Stacey! As Nessa said tonight, they’re too boring to keep her (and us) in Barry.

No …. He’s really nice guy IRL. And he’s talented.

JFDIYOLO · 26/12/2024 00:41

Budge, what's your real name?
Errrmmmm ... 🤣

Really enjoyed it. I was rather dreading they'd go Derry Girls and kill someone off, luckily they resisted that.

And Neil the Baby singing. 😍

I was imagining another five years on and NTB and one of Gavin & Stacey's girls fall in love ... Maybe both, for drama.

BionicEar · 26/12/2024 00:45

Loved it - was fab although puzzled by a few things….

Why didn’t Baby Neil go on the coach with the others to stop. Nessa from leaving?

why didn’t any of Smithy’s family go to Nessa and his wedding?

Gavin and Stacey only appeared to have 2 daughters, yet previously they had 3 kids? What happened to the 3rd child?!

Thought it was a perfect ending.

Merrilydancing · 26/12/2024 00:46

Really enjoyed it, right ending although I had been worried about the rumours of a death.

Their son Harry was in the congregation at the wedding. Unlike Sheridan Smith who was obviously only able to film the scene in the hotel reception!

Well spotted! Good on Sheridan for making the time to appear though. She's great. Was thinking of John Prescott showing up at Nessa's wedding - what a good sport he was about that.

Barry girl here, how amzing what did your neighbour play?? Also was that Everton grey hotel near rhws viaduct.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 26/12/2024 00:53

I loved the way that Nessa had kind of softened over time, both personality and make up, hair etc. She came across as more vunerable.
Really enjoyed it, blubbed and laughed all the way through.

Uncle Bryn with the tie round his head at Pam and Micks party. 😂😂😂

AnImaginaryCat · 26/12/2024 00:55

Yes, Harri walked in with Pam and Mick at the start of the ceremony- pam said something like go sit there to him.

As for Baby Neil I wondered why he wasn't on the coach. Maybe he stayed with his cousins Taplow, Chingford, Brighton and Aldi?
