I'm in tears. Maybe I'm just emotional but can't believe how much the show means to me

And the ending... tidy!

I liked the reference to Doris.

So many little call backs. Not the best episode but a good ending

Noshowlomo · 25/12/2024 23:35

PERFECT’

Just watched it now. How lovely. I am very sad it's over.

Although. Why weren't Smithy's sister and mum there at the end?

They didn’t make Dave’s coach…Maybe because his sister was pushing a double pram and the mum was barely coherent 😁

JC03745 · 25/12/2024 23:36

We watched it, but the last 10mins the TV suddenly said 'No signal'! It came back for a minute, then went off again multiple times.
I saw him get onto the boat- then it went again! I have no idea what happened in the end! 😩

natwalesrug · 25/12/2024 23:37

Watched it tonight for the first time ! Just need too watch the beginning to understand the end 🙄

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 25/12/2024 23:38

Bloody brilliant 🤩

I liked it but I also liked the ending of series 3. Nessa and smithy respecting each other and being great co parents.

Yes, it’s not fundamentally moved on from the ending of series 3, they could have left it there.

OrangeSlices998 · 25/12/2024 23:41

Really felt like the Dave & Gwen thing was only so they could all drive to the docks!

Dawn and Pete was not enjoyable it didn’t feel like they got a nice ending, Pete seemed miserable and resigned. Her new face was not enjoyable to watch!

I laughed at some bits, it was a nice ending. I like that they ended it because they ran out of stories to tell I guess?

My heart sank at the beginning when they revealed who his fiancé was, but I loved it non the less. Fantastic ending and was soo worth the wait 🙂‍↔️

Me too, but I was pretty sure that Smithy and Nessie would somehow end up together.

happyseason · 25/12/2024 23:42

I also agree that they could easily make another episode or several from that ending. I thought it was going to be more final.

I thought Smithy was going to miss Nessa just as she got on the boat for a new life so it would have ended with them never seeing each other again.

I’m surprised so many are saying ‘perfect’ and ‘loved it’ but glad as I am fond of the series and used to live in Barry so feel attached to it.

Crackin’

perfect ending

but wtf happened on the fishing trip??? 😂

I was worried they might tell us what happened on the fishing trip, but it would be a let down if we ever found out.

OrsolaRosso · 25/12/2024 23:45

I have never watched it before, but thought I would watch this one, basically because of all the hype. I enjoyed some bits, others not so much. The ending was lovely. I feel that I don't need to watch the rest of it at all now. This episode seems to have summed up the entire show.

Sorry, “Nessa”.

We had this happen right at the point Dave was talking about the fishing trip! Much scrambling to get iplayer on! God knows why as I never want to know what happened.

Lookingtodate · 25/12/2024 23:32

Dave and Gwen???? Felt like they shoehorned him in. 5 years what's her face and smithy engaged did I miss the explanation for such a long engagement?

At the hen party She said that Smithy had paid for everything - so perhaps that’s why it was a long engagement!

Peopleinmyphone · 25/12/2024 23:52

I just wasn't sold on Dave and Gwen being together, but other than that it was very satisfying as an ending. Loads of references to older episodes in there and all tied up nicely.

It was so good I could cry. 😢 I had so many hopes for it, and it exceeded them massively. Oh my Christ! I love all the drama! And yeah, fair play, it was TIDY truth be told! Smile

I think we can probably all guess. Grin

FrogOnAYuleLog · 25/12/2024 23:58

Loved it so much. The show has really tracked mine and DH’s relationship, as I’m sure with many others - they got together/show started when we did, Xmas special in 2019 they had kids and we had 2 by then (we’re a bit younger than them though!). Now in 2024 they’ve all aged and we are noticing we really have too! Ahh.

Welled up every time I thought about/saw gorgeous little Neil the Baby. Think it would have been very wrong if rudy and smithy’s mum were there at the end - they weren’t part of the Barry/Essex crew and one of the main points of the whole show is that Smithy’s family is rubbish and not supportive and he’s a second son to Pam & Mick.

Thought Gwen & Dave & Bryn were the only ones who hadn’t aged - except Dave’s hairline!

Maximusdecimus · 25/12/2024 23:58

I thought it was perfect. And we are never supposed to know about the fishing trip.

I thought Mick might die, I had an inkling if it was going to be anyone it would be him but was glad to be proved wrong.

Ruth Jones said on something that she liked the idea that they were all still living their lives it’s just we weren’t part of it anymore. And I think that was the perfect ending.

Sickofitalltonight · 26/12/2024 00:01

I enjoyed it, but I think Rudi should have been in it more. She was a more prominent character previously. No one would call their baby Aldi - they could have thought of something funnier there.

Why were Stacey, Pam and Dawn invited to that hen party? Seemed daft and the stripper moment was a bit am dram.

I liked Dave's Coaches and thought that worked well.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2024 00:02

It got a round of applause in our house. Brilliant. There’s so much nostalgia. Only person missing was Deano?

Turquoisetinsel · 26/12/2024 00:03

I loved Pete in his hi top trainers and his bomber jacket thing and his new diet 😄Every woman who has experienced a divorce can surely relate to this moment when the ex shows up with his new look. It was spot on!

Small room booked at the register office so Rudi would never have got the double buggy in. Their mum was too tired to travel
