I'm a little bit excited. 9pm. Channel 5 for lovely comfort viewing and looking misty eyed at Siegfried 🥰

Poor Bingo. They did actually paint white lines on cows though didnt they? So did they use lead paint and the cows get poisoned or did they use other paint in real life?

CarmelaBrunella · 28/09/2024 12:56

I don't know, that wasn't explained.

CarmelaBrunella · 28/09/2024 13:33

Thanks, @JewelleryCat !

JewelleryCat · 28/09/2024 13:58

You’re welcome 🙂

KohlaParasaurus · 28/09/2024 14:09

I'd like it if a same sex relationship thread develops, provided it also illustrates the hostility that would have been prevalent at the time rather than having all the other characters(except maybe one bigoted minor character who comes round once he's been educated/had an epiphany) display 21st century levels of acceptance in the toe-curling manner of Call the Midwife.

CarmelaBrunella · 28/09/2024 14:16

I agree, @KohlaParasaurus . Too often they're presented through 21st century eyes. It really irritates me.

Oblomov24 · 28/09/2024 14:54

Watching first episode.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/09/2024 15:10

I love all the characters in this series. So glad it's back on.

Dd13 usually prefers American comedies and cop shows, but she will cosy up and watch this with me. We get excited when we get a glimpse of the real Thirsk, as we live there.

We were laughing our heads off when Seigfried kept putting his foot in it about Bingo 😂

Houseplanter · 03/10/2024 21:58

Well that was a very odd episode! Felt very disjointed somehow.

SiegfriedsCupofTea · 03/10/2024 22:47

Ah but it was lovely still. I didn't realise how much I missed and love Tristan.

Littletoaster · 03/10/2024 22:57

Aw, Tristan. Loved the exchange about Siegfried's speech:
S: I thought I'd start with the emperor penguin ...
T: That might be where you lose your audience

Good to have him back. Sorta felt like some of his humour and charm was a little hollow or for show so I'm looking forward to finding out what's wrong and what he's actually has been doing.

Yes I dont think we really know what Tristan has been up to in the war yet.

Houseplanter · 03/10/2024 23:17

His 3 days in Doncaster and the rest of the time to himself sounded very odd ( says who knows bugger all about what was the norm)

I only discovered this show about a month ago through finding the first series on Netflix. DH and I have binged all 4 seasons and finally caught up with episode 1 of season 5 tonight - which was just lovely 🥰 I just love all the characters and it’s so gentle and relaxing.

I’ve only watched season 1 on Netflix, where did you find the other seasons?

Houseplanter · 03/10/2024 23:24

@TakeMe2Insanity they're all on My5

JewelleryCat · 03/10/2024 23:31

Was Tristan actually in Egypt? There’s just something about the way he was at the pub and maybe pretending

Glad it wasn’t just me.

Why was the Christening a private service? The whole congregation should have been there, especially as it was Sunday. When was the usual Sunday service, and why wasn't the christening part of it?

I said that to DH. No way in that period especially during war time the entire village wouldn't have turned out or at very least the usual Sunday congregation which would be nearly the entire village anyway.

CarmelaBrunella · 05/10/2024 07:30

Lamps and lights still on in the middle of the day - especially in wartime?
Yes, I agree about the Christening.

CarmelaBrunella · 05/10/2024 07:31

I like Siegfried with Jimmy - he's definitely like a doting Grandpa!

suburburban · 05/10/2024 07:32

Yes definitely thought the same about the church service

They would have had loads of people there

InMySpareTime · 05/10/2024 07:42

Also surprised that the pub was open in the afternoon on a Sunday. I'm pretty sure pubs had Sunday closing until the 80s, coming back from a 12noon christening they should have only had an hour to drink anyway.

CarmelaBrunella · 05/10/2024 07:46

There seems to be tension between Helen and Mrs Herriot senior. Does anyone know why?
