Silent Witness - news series for 2024 starts tonight - what will our multi tasking pathologists get up to this time.

I know fron the last series that many think this is a series that should have quietly been taken of air years ago.

But the telly addicts thread last time was so funny that it made it worth watching just to be able to join in the comments.

As our two lead characters have zero chemistry and barely speak, and they rarely do any actual pathology, one can only speculate what even more far fetched adventure they will get up to this series.

Not forgetting each more implausible fashion get up Nikki will be wearing to work each episode.

Was it ever explained why he chose those victims? Did I miss that?

Nikki claims to be pro women but never pointed out to creepy exstation master now model railway wierdo that letting a load of young men roam around the station at night so he could feel virtuous probably didn't make his female passenger catching late night trains feel safe. Dark station corridors should not be a great homeless hangout. He could help out at Shelter in his spare time instead. I thought the shouty old bloke was a prisoner as well and feel he's probably died of thirst and starvation now

I’ve seen several mulberry trees. The main feature of those seems to be that they are old.

According to the RHS they don’t seem to be that hard to grow. Maybe it’s a symbol that J&N’s love will be remembered for generations as their descendants look at the mulberry tree. Or something.

Nikki was much better suited to the previous pathologist who died, Harry. Does she have to trap off with all of them? She and Jack are a poor match. Pleased they had enough pathology to stop them trying to do everyone else's jobs this story.

Yes one of my two questions was what happened to whoever was bedridden in the home of the ex constable, who was found drowned.

I dont think he was pushed in by the ex army character, but the serial killer who probably did it thinking it would please his boss.

But re why the victims, I think it was linked to his bad relationship with his step father, and anyone he thought was trash was fair game.

The twin was the bearded corpse who it turned out had a twin sister he spent every christmas, but always went back on the road (I wonder if in fact the picture of the two of them together was real, and because of the unmistakably beard they just needed a corpse with a beard).

Overall I thought it was much better, but nearly vomited as the prospect of Nikki marrying Jack. He is just such a boring man, and quite honestly looks gross. And she just looks totally uninterested.

Emily Fox has been in lots of different tv series over the years, but I think is now so identified with Silent Witness she probably doesn't get many offers. So maybe this is why she set up the Italian detective series, apart from the wonderful setting, and lots of attention from hunky Italian men. As far as I remember Harry didn't die, but went for some prestige job in the US as he felt he would never get any advancement in the UK. It was never clear to me that they actually had a relationship. But those of us hoping for his return are going to have to get rid of Jack. Couldn't he do something stupidly manly and die a heros death. Then Harry could turn up from the Congo or wherever he is and hold her hand.

I think maybe that was my second question. How to write Jack out of the series!

Was she? I don't remember her being in that at all.

She was in some weird love triangle show with Dawn French a few years ago.

I thought the other cop admitted killing him before killing the serial killer. You also saw his face driving the van when he was abducted

I am another one who doesn't get why they put in the bloke shouting for help at the ex-policeman's house. I thought he was going to become part of the storyline, but we just had a couple of scenes with him calling out, then nothing.

I presumed the shouty man either had a carer that came in , or it was a relatively short time before the police came to notify him that they'd found the other man's body.

Was there a continuity error with Cara? Last week she told Julie Graham that she'd finished her placement & was just printing out her assignment, this week she was back with her interpreter.
I still don't know how Nikki can manage to live in a different lovely house every series!

I've seen the actor who plays Jack in something before. He wasn't a pleasant character so that might be why I don't like him .

Are Velvy and Cara staying at Jack's house , and yesterday's scene was at Nicki's? I kept expecting them to turn up fir that meal they had been talking about .

@ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs My neighbours have a Mulberry tree. The husband planted it in their front garden when they bought their house (for his wife) They have now been there for ages and the tree thrived. Its a beautiful shape and each year they decorate with sort of old gold fairy lights for Xmas.Looks lovely.

Yes the proposal scene was cringeworthy. Im hoping Jack gets killed off tbh. No chemistry at all. She has better chemistry with Gabriel !

Emilia was in Strangers with John Simm It was set in Hong Kong and he was looking for his missing wife. And she played Valerie Hobson Profumo in The Trial of Christine Keeler

So to try and not snub Jack I looked him up and it seems he has been primarily a theatre actor, which may explain why its hard to think what else he has been in on tv.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought it really strange they never even made mention even in an aside, that the man dead in the canal had someone dependent on him living in his house!

There seems to be a trend in this series to cast actors / actresses who were once top billing in tv shows and casting them as significant characters in the individual stories. Although I find it distracting as I spend a lot of time going, whose that, what was it they were in.

I still cant remember the second question I wanted to ask after watching the 2 episodes back to back, but am now thinking yes, they do seem to live in a lot of houses, or have the sold up and now co-own the mansion with the extensive garden and room for waifs and strays?

I can't focus on Hermione Norris's character because she looks like she has had something done to her eyes since Cold Feet days.

Well. They managed to redeem themselves with that last set. I even cried at the end sequence with all the families - before Nikki and Jack ruined it all again!
