I know fron the last series that many think this is a series that should have quietly been taken of air years ago.

But the telly addicts thread last time was so funny that it made it worth watching just to be able to join in the comments.

As our two lead characters have zero chemistry and barely speak, and they rarely do any actual pathology, one can only speculate what even more far fetched adventure they will get up to this series.

Not forgetting each more implausible fashion get up Nikki will be wearing to work each episode.

She's now also got Velvy dossing down in the spare room. She's going to end up booking herself a mini break at the Soho Hotel to get away from them all. Wearing Me + Em's bestselling spring/summer 24 cashmere tank and sporting freshly curled and highlighted tresses, she will be sitting at the bar staring mournfully into the bottom of a neat whisky, look up - and see Harry.

Harry has been working in a path lab in the Congo but has returned home temporarily for his sister's wedding. She will get him to help on her next case. He will have such a great time solving the case with Nikki (her face lighting up whenever he walks into the mortuary) that he will be persuaded to stay and take over from soft lad in the office for Season 689,768,88. Jack will take his frustrations and jealousies out in the ring. Velvy and Cara will begin a tentative romance. Clarissa will make a guest appearance to 'knock some sense' into Jack.

Well I'll be definitely booking my time to watch!

(Would use an emoji but never quite sure what they all mean so in the meant time have a Gold Star Star)

What is going on with Velvy, I get that he has left his wife and children and basically been ostracised from his community but he really seems a sandwich short of a picnic.

I also thought that they were hinting at a possible romantic relationship between him and Cara last season, am I misremembering?

I believe that the BBC are moving production to Manchester next year, so maybe big changes are afoot storyline wise?

Hellocatshome · 31/01/2024 21:38

I'm sure whatever Velvy's job tole is is probably actually sought after so quite how they ended up with him I've no idea.

FizzingAda · 01/02/2024 08:55

IIRC correctly, didn't Clarissa recommend Velvy?

I can't recall but if she did, it was a deliciously wicked way of letting them all know how stuffed they'd be without her!

I can't recall but if she did, it was a deliciously wicked way of letting them all know how stuffed they'd be without her!

But also not very kind as his complete break with community and family was to be able to experience a life with wider contacts, social interaction, culture etc.. Which working with dead bodies doesn't really provide!

I think Cara messaged Velvy's estranged wife telling her that he's not surviving. She pretended she didn't want his money anymore for his sake. It was very sad.

diddl · 01/02/2024 19:31

I'm sure whatever Velvy's job tole is

It seems to be to know next to nothing so that he can be used as a way of explaining to the viewers!

IwantToRetire · 01/02/2024 19:46

Velvy is a Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technologist!

Quite a long article explaining his past and recapping his role up to and including this week's 2 episodes. (So no spoilers for future episodes.)

And yes it was Clarissa who got him the job.

Who is Velvy in Silent Witness, who plays him and what’s next for the character in season 27 as his wife returns?

Fans of Velvy in Silent Witness might be intrigued about what lies in store for him in season 27 as his wife Rivka makes another appearance

I wondered if Velvy was wondering if anyone would actually miss him if something happened to him, like the woman found after being dead for a year.
I think it would take a lot for his wife to leave their faith.
I am in a minority but I actually like the dynamic between Nikki and Jack. Yes, she did look like she wanted to push him down the stairs when he was moaning away at the start, but I think they do seem to really support each other and know each others strengths. It feels much more of a relationship than when she was with her US diplomat.

Sorry but what in gods name is going on with the casting in this show.

Is Velvy supposed to have learning difficulties or mental health issues? I don't understand why he's so very odd. It's so distracting because I can't work out if we are supposed to be reading something into his manner or if he's just a terrible actor. The senior male pathologist is such a wooden actor- nothing he says sounds like how a human would say it. And the deaf girl just seems to be an odd casting too.

The dialogue is frankly bizarre too. Nikki "that's not really a question is it?". And Nikki in general seems unhinged too- skulking around looking confused and saying ludicrous things.

We are still watching. But it really is hilariously terrible.

And how does Jack afford that ridiculous house and LR Defender on a pathologists salary?! I'm in the wrong job.

He has a complicated history which has been discussed up thread and is explained in more detail in the article link I posted.

Velvet is supposed to be an outcast , as he is from a different community. In the last series, he spoke Yiddish to his family. And there are likely things he comes across now that he didn't have to navigate in his community. Of course, he may also be neurodivergent, or the actor may be.

I assumed the defender was a company car . Or maybe he got an inheritance when his dad died.

boomingaround · 02/02/2024 07:43

Having a complicated history and being from a different culture doesn't really explain the poor acting/oddness though. But thanks for the explanation- we didn't watch last series as we found it had become unwatchable. We've just dipped our toe in again this series. I have to say I did find his storyline in part 2 of this episode much more interested and illuminating than he has been up until now in this series though where he has just seemed incompetent.

LadyEloise1 · 02/02/2024 09:02

I looked at the prominence of the Landrover and concluded that there was some sort of subliminal advertising / sponsorship deal going on.

I thought the "happy ending" of son, mother and real but unknown to son mother was a bit unreal. But nice.

Yes, we’re confused by Velvy. He’s obviously being taught the job but he’s presenting as very odd.

Jack isn’t a pathologist, he’s a forensic scientist who also works as a police officer.

diddl · 02/02/2024 09:32

I'd forgotten that Velvy is a trainee.

What did he do before?

I think it was when Gabriel was taking a tooth & explaining it was for DNA & Velvy didn't seem to know.

It confused me as I thought that everyone who has watched this or almost any cop show knew that!

And Nikki is technically a forensic anthropologist! She was offered a job by Leo after she crashed the department with a trolleyload of old bones (Bronze Age or something like that) and turned out to be better at facial reconstruction than Harry.

As soon as i read the synopsis for Invisible i knew the flat in the storyline would be an HA one. Due to whats happened IRL I watched this story on i player today and well done to writer Timothy Prager who got it bang on. The scenes with tenants being interviewed saying they had spotted flies and had maggots fall on them while changing a light bulb and were ignored.

Evening all
Great what we need is robotic acting and an actual robot

SoundTheSirens · 05/02/2024 21:58

Okay, that’s it. I can believe Nikki insists on putting herself in risky situations, I can believe that Jack is a better cop than every south east England police force, I can believe that a cultured unit manager has the urge to cage fight, I can even believe Velvy is the best trainee pathologist there is. But expecting me to believe that a smartphone still has enough charge after several days to receive a call…nah mate, that’s suspension of disbelief too far.
