Will have spoilers below!

Have loved GA since it was first broadcast although don't think it's anywhere near as good as it used to be, so have been re-watching since the start.

I now can pinpoint its demise - season 6!

Starts with George's funeral, then the merger with the horrible people from Mercy West, Izzy leaving, the Chief drinking, Teddy arriving and all the angst with the Owen & Teddy! Too much change and too many new characters in a short period!

Before this, it was practically perfect & then season 6 onward is downhill all the way (with a few amazing bursts - the shooting episode; the musical episode - can't remember others right now but no doubt there will have been a few more to keep me watching).

Anyone else agree or think otherwise?

Where on earth is the clinic meant to be? I thought it was right by the hospital but I'm just watching an episode where people get taken by ambulance to Greys. Where is it?

Who knows. When it opened (when Izzy donated the money) it was just across the ambulance bay from the ER doors I think. They'd just wander across in 2 seconds flat.

Now it seems to be across the road somehow.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 01/03/2024 23:00

Maybe it's a whole new clinic and that's it also got a name change. I felt bad for poor Ghost Denny when he got wiped from history.

Hopingitsahornyfinger · 02/03/2024 00:29

I'm re-watching - now up to season 16 & have a new appreciation for it. I'm actually enjoying the later seasons more than I did the first time.

I had totally forgotten about Maggie & Jackson, Meredith & DeLuca & PacNorth hospital! Honestly no recollection at all! Think I must have blocked those out!

AcridAndStanLee · 02/03/2024 03:12

One funny thing about me rewatching is that DP who mocks me mercifully for the sobbing that occurs has started watching it with me - just as he did the first time. Even better this time is that our daughter who generally despises us as a 12 year old has started sitting with us and rolling her eyes... this again to sit with us asking questions and clearly secretly loves it too!

I'm at the episodes where George's dad is sick and Preston and Cristina are hiding his tremors during surgery so it's not yet become the sobfest it later does.

madamepresident · 02/03/2024 05:36

Ive rewatched several times and ghost sex makes me cringe so much. The aftermath if the plane crash is boring. I loved Derek at first but realised he's an absolute ballbag who has a massive god complex.
I love Yang and agree it goes downhill after her going. Alex leaving was also so out of character and ruined his arc - just badly handled.

The later seasons aren't as good but there are some outstanding episodes - one where Meredith gets attacked by a patient and is left severely injured and deaf, and one when Jo helps a woman who has been raped.
I always skip the covid ones apart from the deluca storyline.
Season 19 picked up a bit but feel like it tries to tick too many social awareness boxes. It doesn't feel authentic anymore and is totally disneyfied now.
Oh and Owen , Teddy and Amelia can do one

paininthebac · 02/03/2024 05:36

@CallieTorres The kid in concrete has a nice ending

whosaidtha · 02/03/2024 10:20

Sometimes they do a great job of being realistic, but other times they just forget logic. Wtf is going on with Leo and Betty. Where are social services. How was a single guy with. Very time consuming job approved for fostering. Why is the birth mother allowed to live with them. Where are social services when the grandparents come to take him. This whole storyline is bonkers

Another thing I have to get off my chest is how amazing all the entries to the competition were - webbers path pen. Amazing. But why is everyone going crazy over Arizona re-organising some bloody drawers. Please.

One more thing - I think I missed something with Bailey having a Breakdown? She broke up with Ben and then was saying her medication messed up? Was it a station 19 thing?

SheilaFentiman · 02/03/2024 10:22

Bailey developed OCD after infecting a patient on the table, owing to a faulty batch of gloves which had holes in. She was given medication for it. I don’t remember it breaking her and Ben up
though?

SheilaFentiman · 02/03/2024 10:24

@whosaidtha god, absolutely re Owen! Ditto Jo and Luna, and even MerDer and Zola!

I know, it's barmy! In season one they're talented but basically standard surgeons. In later seasons they're unbelievable! Bailey modifies the HIV virus for god's sake 😂 It's realistic in the sense that I believe that that treatment is being done for children with that condition, but the actual virus modification is not being done by a normal surgeon in a normal hospital lab.

SheilaFentiman · 02/03/2024 10:37

Ha, yeah! Meredith gets into lots of trouble for messing with the Alzheimer’s trial’s controls but in later series, they all have an idea one day and use it on a willing patient the next!

(not that the AD trial controls were in the least convincing, as if the envelopes would be labelled PLACEBO etc rather than having codes, but at least there was some idea of a controlled trial!)

“Another thing I have to get off my chest is how amazing all the entries to the competition were - webbers path pen. Amazing. But why is everyone going crazy over Arizona re-organising some bloody drawers. Please.”

The reason they were so impressed was it saved unnecessary deaths. They really did have a shocking record in maternal fatality. Sometimes the simple ideas are the best ones.

“Bailey developed OCD after infecting a patient on the table, owing to a faulty batch of gloves which had holes in. She was given medication for it. I don’t remember it breaking her and Ben up

Bailey decided worrying about Ben running into burning buildings must be the route of her problems. She kicked him out for a while. I remember him knocking at the door when a storm was forecast asking if he could make the house safe for her and Tuck.

I remember that but it didn't seem to fit with her and Ben breaking up. It very much felt liked I'd missed something major. And I thought maybe there was a Stanton 19 episode that explores their split a bit more. Not sure how much cross over there is as I tried station 19 but couldn't get into it.

Edited

I at least felt like there was a process with zola. Even if it was weak. There were court cases and social workers. Can't remember quite how involved the process for Luna was although do remember thinking it's ridiculous. But with Leo and Betty it's ridiculous. Especially as Betty was lying about her identity and who her parents were. So it seems like Amelia just bypassed all formalities. How could she keep this secret from ss especially as the timeline suggests she was with them for at least 4months.

whosaidtha · 07/03/2024 11:58

How do they get over stuff so completely? Deluca is working closely with Alex after he beat him to a pulp. I'm sure there are other examples.

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 07/03/2024 12:31

I really hated the DeLuca gets beaten up storyline. I hated how everyone just let Alex off.

Frosty1000 · 07/03/2024 13:02

The only season I really didn't like was s18 with the COVID stuff also loved new interns in s19 but not the Meredith Boston stuff and Shepherd with whoever she was with.

Looking forward to S20.

I quite enjoyed private practice.

Exactly. Also Alex also beat up another dr and basically threatened him out of a job and everyone still sees him as a great guy.

Hopingitsahornyfinger · 07/03/2024 16:51

Who else did he beat up other than DeLuca?

GildedAge · 07/03/2024 16:55

I only remember him beating up Andrew. There are some made up scenes where he imagines beating up Jo’s husband…

imfae · 07/03/2024 17:42

Have only watched it once . My favourite character was Yang and I grew to love Mark .

My favourites currently are still Bailey and Richard .

It may be blasphemous to say but I have always found Meredith to be really annoying . Also the fact that the Drs who will be on good wages always seem to house share either each other not to mention the 24/7 child care and the parents not spending a lot of time with their kids .

Maggie is the most annoying character . I have not liked any of her relationships .

I have watched a lot of medical dramas and at times confuse myself when I get muddled up between characters in different series Blush.

Others series that I have watched - House probably one of the best . The Good Doctor - will be screening its last series next.

New Amsterdam - a bit try hard and preachy at times .

Chicago Med - has some good characters .

Transplant - liked the main characters .

I also recently finished watching The Resident which again had some good characters .

Bodies - the British series is also good with some brilliant actors - although I do remember it being a bit more gory .

I just looked it up and it was actually Jo who beat him up. It was the OB that she was dating.

What is Chicago med available on? A few people have mentioned this

imfae · 07/03/2024 18:22

I watched Chicago Med on Sky . Googling seems to suggest availability on prime and Now tv but not sure if any of these are pay to watch for this series .
