Starting today - Howard's Way is showing every week day at 2pm on the Drama Channel.

That theme tune takes me right back to the eighties and Sunday evenings!!! I grew up in the Midlands so had no idea about half of the terms but loved it!

To be fair there were an awful lot of marina developments around Southampton in the late 80's early 90's so that bit makes sense.

First flat I bought was in Ocean Village Southampton. Thought I was Jan Howard gazing at the yachts and walking through the marina

RaraRachael · 03/03/2023 18:44

I squirm every time there's a love scene between Jan and that desperate old lech Sir Edward. She's have been better off sticking with Ken. I can't help but like him in a hapless kind of way.

Why on earth anyone would want to steal the designs for the Periplus monstrosities is beyond me. It's just hilarious to think that's what women wore. I can remember my sister and me trying on my mother's new blouses complete with huge shoulder pads and Mrs Thatcher bows - we thought we were it but must have looked a fright!

mum2jakie · 03/03/2023 19:17

The fashions are certainly eye catching. Garish colours, giant shoulder pads and huge cheap looking belts. Periplus would be a brand of inconvenience pads nowadays!

FFS, when are they going to add series 5?!

Was thinking the same thing!

saveforthat · 14/03/2023 22:09

I'm absolutely loving this. I didn't really watch the original broadcasts. I
remember wearing similar fashions and love looking at how technology (e.g.) has moved on. Makes me feel really nostalgic. Also sad that a lot of the lead actors are dead. I suppose that's not that surprising as it's nearly 40 years ago.

TwigTheWonderKid · 14/03/2023 22:17

@january123 who can we petition?!

january123 · 14/03/2023 22:27

Maybe we can should prepare a report, bring it to the Consortium and take it to the vote.

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2023 22:39

According to my TV planner, Series 5 starts tomorrow - can't wait!

Usual channel, usual time. I've series linked it to record and it's appeared, so fingers crossed.

dew141 · 15/03/2023 05:48

It's definitely still giving.

Polly ordering an unfeasibly large volume of mail order clothes for Periplus behind Jan's back as it's easy to hide an entire warehouse worth of boxes. Abbie's dire acting and hair tossing.

The love of white slacks for man - if this was a thing, it passed me by. As did the v-neck jumper with nothing but a tantalising glimpse of chest hair beneath.

I think I may need to wean myself off it as the urge to stroke Charles' glossy mane is getting unbearable. The sharpness of his parting, the sheer volume and gleam. Mmmm.

january123 · 15/03/2023 08:59

Polly has an uncanny resemblance to Skeletor for me!!
Stick him in 80s De Spizter ski wear they could be separated at birth!!

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2023 14:19

Blondie should have sued them for ripping off Sunday Girl

january123 · 15/03/2023 19:42

And we're off!

Oh my god! I have been trying to work out who she reminded me of and you've got it!

I need a lie down in a darkened room after the vision of Charles in the swimming pool . And he emerged without a glossy hair out of place!
Has there ever been a more boring, dull character than Abbie. She has absolutely no personality at all.

january123 · 16/03/2023 13:31

Oh my life, the hair goes from bad to worse!

No wonder my own was so horrific in the 80s with role models like Avril and Jan 😂

RaraRachael · 16/03/2023 17:20

I remember going to the hairdresser and asking her to do "A centre parting and flicked out at the sides"
I still have photos to prove what a fright I looked. Still it provides entertainment for my kids!

dew141 · 16/03/2023 17:42

Classic. My mother used to dry mine into what could only be described as mini Margaret Thatcher at the front and a duck's arse at the beck.

january123 · 16/03/2023 17:47

I was part of the mullet OG, permed bouffant on top, straight at the back Blush

RaraRachael · 16/03/2023 21:31

I once went for a feather cut which was deemed very fashionable at the time. It was a kind of mullet for girls that involved holding out strands of hair then chopping at them with a razor. I'd never known pain like it 😓

mum2jakie · 18/03/2023 10:18

Just got to the finale of series four.

Love at the transformation of Polly Urquhart from bored housewife to double crossing international business tycoon within the space of a single series!

Now on to series five. Do we know how many series were made in total?

OP posts:
kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 18/03/2023 11:06

@mum2jakie

There were 6 series. I believe the actor who played Tom died at the end of series. 4 so he was written out of season 5 (can't remember how) and killed off at the start of 6.

RaraRachael · 18/03/2023 12:15

I really wonder why we enjoyed this show so much. It was a weird combination of boatbuilding, fashion and international business dealings (which I never understood). All the talk of brokers and consortiums went over my head in the 80s and still does!

He's still in S5

S5 ep2
"The name's Howard, Jan Howard."😂
