Starting today - Howard's Way is showing every week day at 2pm on the Drama Channel.

That theme tune takes me right back to the eighties and Sunday evenings!!! I grew up in the Midlands so had no idea about half of the terms but loved it!

Thanks for posting I've missed the start but have set to record on +1

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2023 14:25

Oh yes! Thanks, OP.

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 14:29

No worries. I was a bit late posting!

These characters are bringing back memories. Tom and Jan. Lyn and Leo. Jack and Avril...

I just saw this today.

Shame I go back to work tomorrow and will miss it!

I love just down the road from where it's filmed and lived pretty close when the original was on.

Confitofduckand · 02/01/2023 14:34

The music is amazing. Daaa da daaa! We used to do a sort of Mexican wave to it!

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 14:36

It must be one of the most recognisable theme tunes of all time.

Ken Masters - I had forgotten all about him. Wasn't he a bit of a bad guy?

When I went to University in Southampton all anyone said is 'How glamorous, like Howards Way'

I can confirm central Southampton bears no resemblance to the scenery on Howards Way.

cobblers123 · 02/01/2023 15:14

I live not that far from where it was filmed and did go to the pub that was in Howard's Way a couple of times. A girl from my school, bit younger than me was in it for a few episodes too.

Might watch a few episodes for old times sake, i did like the series back in the day.

My brother always used to refer to him in the series as "oily Ken" 😁

So excited!! Howard's Way was set around where I grew up and the Jolly Sailor was my local!

TellySavalashairbrush · 02/01/2023 15:17

I’ve set it up to be recorded. Bro no a back so many memories of my early teens and watching with my parents who have now passed away. Had a massive crush on Charles too!!!

TellySavalashairbrush · 02/01/2023 15:17

Brought back*

I used to love this on a Sunday night. I really like a guy, I think he was called Claude, who was meant to be French and was devastated to find he was Scottish IRL.

Riverlee · 02/01/2023 19:49

My most favourite theme tune ever.

Not sure whether I want to re-watch it or not, cause loved it first time around (and seriously considered naming dc 1 Leo, until Tony Blair named his child Leo).

What if it’s not as good as I remember.

I saw Barracuda on one one of the first dates with dh, in a South coast marina (Lymington?).

Tree543 · 02/01/2023 19:56

I loved Howard's Way, though I was always a bit bored by the endless business meetings lots of talk about "consortiums" and other dull stuff. I did have a crush on Leo, though looking back he was a bit wet. Don't know what he saw in miserable Abby.

topcat2014 · 02/01/2023 19:57

They made a pop song from the theme tune.

"Always there"

Dw wanted to call first child Leo of it was a boy.

We had a Dd

red4321 · 02/01/2023 20:04

I loved it. And Charles Frere (it was the sexy way he said syndicate/consortium). And so very 1980s.

Thanks for the tip, I can't wait.

red4321 · 02/01/2023 20:05

BTW I think the CF actor sadly died of a brain tumour

DaphneduM · 02/01/2023 20:08

It brings back happy memories for me - a Hampshire girl - been to the Jolly Sailor many times with my Mum and Dad. I adore Howards Way.

RaraRachael · 02/01/2023 20:08

I'd forgotten about Charles Frere @red4321 . He was attractive in that suave older man kind of way. He married the girl who played Lynne, if my memory serves me correctly.

red4321 · 02/01/2023 20:10

I think he did. Although Jan was probably more his age (or am I still stuck in my irrational teenage mind?!).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/01/2023 21:25

Oh I used to watch this Grin

Charles Frere , very glam
Ken with his white slacks , I bet he could strip an engine but still stay Persil White !
Jan with her earring , shoulder pads and big porrly hair .
Her Mum was the sensible one .Voice of reason.

I'm in 2 minds wether to watch . I found "Gentlemen and Players" on youTube (another blast from the 80s) it hadn't aged well at alll .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/01/2023 21:27

Oh yes Abby was a mardy mare wasn;t she ?

mum2jakie · 02/01/2023 21:35

I've done some googling on the cast members and sadly many seemed to have died young. The actor who played Tom Howard died in 1990 in his forties.

I also discovered that the actor who played Leo Howard is father to Freddie Highmore of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Good Doctor/Bates Motel fame!!
