Starting today - Howard's Way is showing every week day at 2pm on the Drama Channel.

That theme tune takes me right back to the eighties and Sunday evenings!!! I grew up in the Midlands so had no idea about half of the terms but loved it!

Is that Abby next to Tom? I think so.

Yes it's current. It's still a great spot but sadly lost a lot of its charm over last couple of years.

I have finally watched the last episode. Was actually quite moving, with Jack Rolfe's move marking the end of an era. What a bitch Abby turned out to be! Took her six series to find a personality - shame it turned out to be such a nasty one. I think Gerald summed it up well - she really did turn out to be Polly and Charles' daughter after all.

I did say to DM that they were 33 years too late to complain!
They have so enjoyed rewatching it, they have recorded it daily and then watched slightly later with their afternoon cup of tea. DF sailed all his life and only got rid of his final boat (a motor boat on the Thames that he designed and made himself) about 5 years ago.

@TeenDivided ah what a shame for them! We are all a few decades too late to campaign for another series 😔

I still have a few episodes left to watch and am spacing them out as I'll be bereft when it finishes. My guilty pleasure ☺️

My poor parents (late 80s, early 90s) rang me most upset today because Drama had decided to stop showing Howards Way. I did a quick google and had to break it to them that series 6 episode 13 had indeed been the last. They've been so enjoying it, they used to own a Spring 25 which was the 'little weekender' boat featured on the series.

Finally got to the end and feel quite sad. Some unfinished ends, particularly around Leo and Thomas. Also found the guilt-tripping of Jan by her mother quite jarring (with the benefit of time moving on). Her children were adults (and parents themselves), not exactly needy toddlers.

Without wishing to spoil the plot, I found Lynne's 'announcement' quite odd timing. I thought they were only back together just before the trip to Bermuda?

I'm in the Ken fan club. Who'd have thought I'd be taken with a balding man wearing white slacks and a yellow V-neck jumper. Although Charles remains top of my list, very sexy in a smouldering, beige socked way.

I agree @@mum2jakie about Ken Master. Although I thought Charles Frere was gorgeous at the time (and still do) if I had to date a man from HW it would be Ken. He had great fashion sense for the time and actually seem to have a fun side to him unlike those who were just obsessed with consortiums and trying to get one over on everybody else.

I've watched it all and sad that I'll have a gap in my guilty pleasure viewing now so hoping that some other nonsense from yesteryear will pop up.

There were a few characters I couldn't stand like Sir Edward, the Hudsons and Abby. Really laughable that the total drip of a girl apparently turned into a hard nosed businesswoman.

Interesting that there were 3 real life couples in it.

I'm up to series six, episode ten.

I have to say out of all the characters, I have a fondness for Ken Masters. They all seem to take the piss and underestimate him. He is constantly striving for success and also has a likeable side - unlike the pompous Charles Frere.

From the start of the series, he was the one who had confidence in Jan Howard when the 'kind' Tom just wanted her to stop at home and get his dinner on the table. He also has a fun sense of humour.

I hope Ken has a positive ending and comes good👍

Howards’ Way bingo:

Let’s discuss it over lunch.
Let’s discuss it over dinner.
I have something very important to discuss with you.
What the hell are you doing here?
This is very nice but why are we here?
I’m sure you didn’t bring me here to …
MY yard.
Proper wooden boats.

I'm still ploughing through at TV pace so I think 4 more episodes to go.
Will I ever understand what the Polerma Corporation and Diacra Holdings (sorry have only heard them spoken about so no idea how they're spelt) were all about.
It's funny that we were gripped by a programme 50% of we hadn't a clue about.

Am annoyed - for some reason my sky box hasn't recorded episode 8 - should have been on TV on Friday?!

Surely the terms of Sir Edward's will - with the clauses about Abbie and Leo - wouldn't stand up to any legal challenge?

I've just finished and am irrationally bereft! Grin
Also left with feeling that S6 wasn't intended to be the end. Too many loose ends
Does Jan ever find that elusive work/life balance?Does Abbey finally morph into Donald Trump?
What about Ken Masters plan for world domination; does he donate his wardrobe to a museum?
What becomes of the board/consortium/high level strategies of great importance??
Time to get a life January123

I enjoyed this - it was better than I thought it would be. I didn’t see much of the wooden-ness in the acting that others have mentioned, with the exception of the Vanessa actress who was poor. The Kate Harvey actress was a bit “stagey” at times but given her very successful theatre background, that’s unsurprising. I loved her chemistry with her real-life husband who played the admiral and also with Jan Harvey - they were a believable mother/daughter combo and the relationship between Jan and the lovely Lynn was perfect too. Adored Jack and Avril’s scenes. The Machiavellian Polly remains my favourite character, and Gerald was wonderful as well. The camera work on the sea was great. I don’t have many criticisms really.

So sad that Maurice C and Tony A didn’t live to enjoy their retirements.

I've watched all of these now and I am bereft. What's everyone watching next. Can anyone recommend any other 80s nostalgia series?

Me too! DH and I watched the last episode on Saturday night. I made Horse's Neck cocktails (see penultimate episode) in honour of the occasion.

It was at least a good, satisfying ending, I think. No idea what to watch next. Triangle is on YouTube but I'm not sure I'm ready for the excitement of the cross Channel ferry...

Blimey, Polly doesn't hang around!

Wow Polly getting married! She has timed that very well to become a wealthy widow. And the lovely Lynn back in Tarrant too.

I binged the entire series and loved every minute of memories - even the opening music takes me back to a Sunday evening in the 80s. I had such a crush on Jack and his arran jumpers Grin

Am a few episodes behind and have just got to the end of series five. Can't believe Abbie has had yet another accident at the end of a pregnancy! Surely this was exactly the circumstances around William's birth too? I suppose it's one way to avoid the pain of labour!

I must admit I didn't like Polly so not sorry that she's not around any more.
What a cheek Sir Edward had shouting at Jan because she rejected him again - as if? However he's snuffed it now so it won't matter any more.
I find Kate extremely irritating, even more so than Vanessa. I can't remember how it panned out but I really hope Jan and White Trousers get together again.
I always felt that Jack was very good as he is such a curmudgeonly old stick in the mud although all that cigar smoke wafting everywhere would make me ill!

At least they've upped their game and made series 6 more interesting already that the dire boredom of series 5 - far too much talk of consortiums or should that be consortia 😂
