Ok I admit I'm obsessed!

What is your favourite motherland episode ?

walkinthewoodstoday · 13/12/2022 20:51

What made Anne choose Darius I wonder?!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 13/12/2022 21:26

Re the different houses for Marian, she was house sitting at one for a friend. Amanda has 2 houses too or 3?

There’s a local mum near me who the other local mums hate (but one has to be friendly with her as the husbands are best mates), they call her “Amanda off Motherland”. She does have a blonde, glam, sneery vibe (I’ve tried to speak to her but she’s like a robot). I feel sorry for Amanda because she obviously tries lots of I’m better than you stuff and has her lackeys. Did no one like the man from Shalimar PR whom Julia shamelessly used for work favours?

Julia is such a bitch and I’m not a mum so don’t know of anyone is like her in real life but good god her in law, no wonder Paul is as useless as he is.

For me it’s always the Christmas episode especially the end where the are all at home

creamcheeseandlox · 14/12/2022 08:30

Love all of them but the Christmas one where they are in Amanda's kids bedroom and Kevin gets punched in the face, blood everywhere, meg pissing herself laughing on the bed and Amanda comes in and they all stare at her and say they have Been doing drugs and Amanda's response "not cool guys not cool". Then they cover the blood on the carpet with a chair. Grin

KateMcCallister · 16/12/2022 12:42

All of them, but the Christmas episode just pips it for me.

I'm so glad there's a special coming!!

LidlCinnamonBun · 17/12/2022 05:29

I am so excited about the Christmas special.
it’s made up for having to see my grumpy in laws. When I see then I will thinking about snuggling in my blanket from Father Christmas and eating quality street watching it.

Takenoprisoner · 17/12/2022 13:12

I've been watching S1, noticed that in the few few episodes Ann is quite stylish and has gorgeous hair. Wonder why they made her so frumpy afterwards?

Comedycook · 17/12/2022 13:13

Also on series one Anne says that she's been through early menopause but she gets pregnant twice in the subsequent series

Ha, she was probably pregnant but thought it was menopause. The joke is that Anne is Irish and they stereotypically have hundreds of children. (Irish roots myself before I get accused of anything).

PunnyGirl · 17/12/2022 15:01

I'm not sure I have a favourite one. I love them all and CANNOT wait for the Christmas special. I've been watching the full series on Netflix so I'm fully reacquainted. So many top lines. My faves are 'Back off it's not the antiques roadshow' at parent's evening, and when Mrs Lamb told Julia off for Ivy's kitten heel school shoes 'dress for the job you want. I say'. I've grown to love Julia. She's chaotic and selfish but she's hilarious and deep down I think she'd probably be a good friend. Love her scene with Meg at the end of the Mother's Day episode. Omg I'm so over invested, I never post on mumsnet and here I am.

I think the joke too with Ann is that she's supposed to be the dowdy one but out of all of them is the one most probably having regular sex. I love her little Irish sayings too, Jesus tonight! 😂 My parents are Irish so it always makes me laugh.

darisdet · 17/12/2022 15:13

Looking forward to the Christmas special!

twinkleto · 19/12/2022 06:05

I thought there wasn't anything I disliked about motherland... but I was watching the air b n b episode last night and absolutely hate the way they don't make any effort to eat Anne's matchu thingy dish 😭

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/12/2022 09:34

The old Christmas special is on BBC1 tonight .... 10.20 or something similar. I don't think it's on netflix or iplayer.

Last episode of third series. I like when Ann finally snaps and calls Amanda a stupid big blonde cow...and Amanda's tiktok dance!

This one for me too!

I actually watched that on Netflix yesterday. It is very funny, especially the "yes, we've all been sniffing cocaine" to cover up the mess they've made of Amanda's carpet. I did feel my blood pressure properly rising at Julia's husband calling from the supermarket, though. He is so many AIBU threads rolled into one.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 19/12/2022 09:53

Oh I couldn't see it on netflix ... I was in an air bnb though so maybe it was their settings. Only a couple of episodes of series 3.

Snowfalling · 20/12/2022 10:49

Has there so far been one or two Xmas episodes, not counting this year's one to air (can't wait)? I can only see one on iplayer.

I love that Julia came home to to a picture perfect scene of food cooked, kitchen cleaned, table laid, and everyone IN BED! She deserved that!

And Meg wrapping the whole table full of presents (rather than individual gifts), was total bad-ass!

@Snowfalling , I love the bit when Julia gets home to find everything sorted too!

I always wonder who it was - her mum? Her awful in-laws? Surely not her lazy DH?! 😂

I always wonder that! I don't think we're meant to know, sort of like a mysterious miracle just so that ONE thing can go to plan in Julia's life.

Comedycook · 20/12/2022 18:42

I assumed it was her mum. She was the one who saw Julia stressed out in the kitchen

Yes the likeliest is her mother, the only person who actually seems to care a jot about Julia, certainly not her selfish, man child husband! Also, we see her mother helping out at the birthday party and cleaning up afterwards, so makes sense.

Bigheartsshapelittleminds · 20/12/2022 20:13

It's so hard to pick but the lice po-lice episode was genius.

heartbroken22 · 20/12/2022 21:25

The pilot! Just watched it today and it's an absolute gem!

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 30/12/2022 09:23

I’ve only just discovered this series and been working my way through it. I’m up to the end of series two and my favourites so far are when they go out with the new lady (can’t remember her name), and she gets really drunk. I love the shitshop one and the one where they all go on holiday ‘it’s not my house’.

I think the pilot was the first perfect pilot with Liz almost chopping her finger off, Julia’s manic driving and forgetting the kids were on holiday and not at school!

I’ve got a few mum friends (I’m not a mum) and I think they can definitely relate to it but one told me she couldn’t watch after the first pilot episode as it was too close to home!

I think they’re all amazing actors though Lucy Punch, Oliver Chris and Anna Maxwell Martin are standouts for me.
