Ok I admit I'm obsessed!

What is your favourite motherland episode ?

OP posts:

Re-watching so may change....
Love when the in-laws visit. Completely useless but think they are super helpful.
Paul and his "I'll completely back you up whatever you decide".
I didn't like the Garry storyline first time around but liked it on a second (and third...!) watch.
Love Kev at the rented house.
Julia has the best lines. Liz is my fav. I want Meg's house. Love (/hate) Amanda.

shreddies · 08/12/2022 15:06

The Mother's Day episode, Joanna Lumley picking up immaculately presented Amanda and telling her to go and get ready

The cat entertainer

The weekend away where every me asks Kevin for everything

No mum left behind. I'll never not find Meg falling down the stairs funny

I feel like that sometimes and I have a fella who pulls his weight. We are both just stressed. The difference between me and Julia is I try not to ask for help and just get on with it, but I do identify with her sometimes and that general feeling of being behind and disorganised.

I did do the quiz and it said I was Meg though and I really, really do not have her lifestyle.

I think I like Amanda the best. She's on another planet and is hilarious. I think the actress plays her well (as I'm very jealous of her long legs). JL was also a brilliant casting as her mum.

I did that test and was certain I would come out as Julia, I am always chasing my own tail and stressed, and came out as Meg too!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 08/12/2022 21:55

I like them all but Liz cutting off her finger, the pool party and Meg’s arrival episode are my favourites.

Did no one think useless prick Paul redeemed himself when he found out about Julia’s crush on the plumber?!

saturnsring · 08/12/2022 21:57

Definitely the one when they go away for the weekend and poor, harangued Kevin goes mad and calls them all selfish bitches. Cracks me up.

GCAcademic · 08/12/2022 22:03

The lines where Liz is trying to get Kevin to take her kids so she can meet some bloke in a pub really crack me up: “Kevin, can you take my kids? Oh please, go on take them. Please, Kevin? TAKE MY FUCKING KIDS”.

The best episode is the in laws turning up to “help”. The resemblance to my parents is uncanny.

He was in a cop show set in Brighton years ago and was very dark and brooding in it. Can't remember the name of it for the life of me

Yes he was in Cuffs! Police series set in Brighton. I rewatched it recently on Amazon Prime or Britbox. 'Kevin' played a gay detective with a kink for being whipped I think!

Thereisnolight · 08/12/2022 22:10

The cavalry in-laws and the birthday party.

stickybear · 08/12/2022 22:49

I've just rewatched #shitshop for about the fifth time and have decided it's definitely that one Grin

feemcgee · 09/12/2022 15:55

The one where Kevin has to miss sports day because he's giving a presentation at work, he gets increasingly pissed off when he's giving it as his colleagues are having a carry on, and they've also drawn a dick and balls on the presentation.

Tiny2018 · 09/12/2022 16:22

When Liz cuts her finger off, made me absolutely howl 😂

When Liz cuts her finger off, made me absolutely howl 😂

'Can you call a cab, I think I need to go to A&E'

'What why?'

'I've cut my finger off'.... 🤣🤣🤣

It's the bit before that though that I love, where Liz says to one of the kids 'excuse me, we're not animals.... use a magazine'!

dontlookgottalook · 09/12/2022 17:55

I love the scene where they're out late on Halloween and things take a dark turn, all the older kids running about causing mayhem. Totally exaggerated but so funny. Absolutely love Amanda in all of it. Hygge Tygge is brilliant. Anne is fabulous throughout. It's such joyous silly tv.

darisdet · 09/12/2022 18:35

I love where they all toast Amanda's new store shop and there's half a dozen different pronunciations of Hygge Tygge!

Overoptimistix · 09/12/2022 18:50

The Christmas one where Julia's in-laws bring their fridge leftovers is one that I find VERY relatable- "Who saves a quarter of a f@&£ing onion?"

saturnsring · 09/12/2022 19:09

Also the Calvary but mostly the part where Julia says 'what about your indigestYON' I don't know why I find it so funny.

I quote this to my husband daily and it cracks him up. He never laughs at anything so when he laughed at the indigestYON scene I felt alot of joy.

Oh yes, me too, it’s hilarious.
And when Geoff irritatingly moves his spoon around the soup bowl for ages before slurping some in.
”I’ll just have some breadsticks” - it’s all brilliant!

snowballer · 10/12/2022 00:09

Oh the Cavalry - I can watch that over and over. They are my in laws. Come to "help". Make four times the amount of work.

"Can I have a slice of bread? No just the heel is fine." Julia scrabbling down to the bottom of the bread bag 😂

BlueMediterranean · 10/12/2022 00:24

When Julia thinks she is in the catchment area for a very good secondary school but apparently they are not since they built a block of flats. THIS HAPPENS A LOT IN LONDON!!!!!!

You can only send you kids to a good school if you have money to move to a good catchment area that it's overpriced.

strawberriesplease · 10/12/2022 00:27

Love all episodes so going for favourite character, which is Ann. She's a wee devil.

bethhop85 · 10/12/2022 01:01

It’s so hard to choose! Love the one about Amanda’s store shop store (Hygge Tygge is a great name but I was hoping she’d go for Maison Maman Papa Bébé…!) and the swimming party.

The scene with Kevin and the swim shorts had me in stitches 😂

Kevin: “Nice togs, by the way.
Are they the pair that Nick Clegg wore on holiday that time?”

Other SAH dad: “Yeah, they are, actually.”

Kevin: “Great casual dresser, Clegg.”

Other absolute fave moment is the Christmas special when Liz arranges Amanda’s glittery “LET IT SNOW” letters to spell out “WET TONSIL” 😂

And an honourable mention must go to Kevin’s Brexit-themed children’s book: “Bye-bye Louis, bye-bye Klaus” 🤣

Icecreamandapplepie · 10/12/2022 01:10

Bloody brilliant.

All the characters and episodes are outstanding and I relate to every single one.

Meg's night out one my fave.

WeWereInParis · 10/12/2022 01:30

I love the bit in the Christmas episode where Kevin can't pronounce Minecraft properly, and pronounces it like mein kraft and Julia says

"It's Minecraft! It's not German. Hitler didn't write it."

shreddies · 10/12/2022 07:19

I can't think of Mein Kraft without laughing to myself. So funny
