I'm really confused. Since when was Amelia gay??

I'm not sure that technically she is.

Kai iirc is 'non binary'

which make Amelia..... what ever she identifies she is.

I think it's storylines like that though that people have found a bit implausible tbh over the seasons on top of the general implausibility.

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 20/11/2022 19:08

@pastabest hmmmmm, ok. Not buying it I'm afraid.

ImAvingOops · 20/11/2022 19:23

I couldn't get past the first 15 minutes. I was so bored! Think I may have finally given up on it.

Oh don't get me started on this. These shows are ALL the same, the female character is hetrosexual for season after season then suddenly, it turns out she's bi or gender fluid or whatever. See Teddy - supposedly her original "love of her life" was a woman. See Amelia (although I think Kai is a man, who just presents as a woman and who uses "they/them" pronouns so arguably Amelia is not bi, just shagging a man who chooses to dress in a more feminine way). There was someone else on Greys like this too but can't remember who right this minute.

Meanwhile, I notice the men are always either gay or straight. No bisexuality there. Oh no.

For those who love Addison, have you watched Private Practice? Amelia was in that also. I much prefer it to GA. I've watched the whole series twice.

Yes! Amelia is far more interesting in PP. They ruined her in GA

burnoutbabe · 21/11/2022 21:42

Kai is biologically a women but Amelia has always presented a bit curious.

I am on season 4 of private practice, Amelia is just about to give birth to her unicorn baby, that's a sad storyline (the actress was pregnant in real life so they wrote it in)

GerbilsForever24 · 22/11/2022 12:11

Oh, I see. YOu're right. Biologically a woman. So I'm back to being annoyed at how the female characters are always bisexual and the male characters are one or the other. It's so bloody annoying. Let's see Linc suddenly turn out to have had a gorgeous boyfriend when he was a teenager.

Bi women are sexy. Bi men are not. Or at least, that's what I assume the show runners think due to the refusal to let the men be bi.

youngestisapsycho · 22/11/2022 13:36

Where did the nephew come from? Is there another sister of Derek and Amelia?

DeeofDenmark · 22/11/2022 13:57

I think Derek had three of four sisters.

DrAddisonForbesMontgomery · 23/11/2022 18:04

I'm just catching up, only seen the first two episodes but I'm really enjoying it. I like the new interns & the nostalgia of them sitting together on the gurneys.

As pp said, Derek had 3 or 4 sisters, they've been in the show a few times over the seasons.

Unihorn · 23/11/2022 23:36

I know tonight's episode got a lot of backlash in the US for over-politicising issues again, but I thought it was absolutely heart-breaking.

I watched it , it was ok I thought but station 19 is so much better.

  1. I'm not sure it's helpful for Zola to be constantly told how gifted she is and how extraordinary her future achievements will be.
  1. Has Meredith given any thought to how her other children will feel about uprooting and moving 3000 miles away from their home, school, friends and family network?
Alertthecorgis · 25/11/2022 21:09

@Unihorn, I found this week’s episodes really upsetting. Devastating to see what women in the US are facing.

WhyDoesItAlways · 26/11/2022 07:55

I found this week's episode hard to watch because it was so badly filmed. They couldn't have made it more obvious that bailey and Addison were in front of a green screen if they tried. Usually bad visual effects don't bother me but it was particularly bad. Maybe it was the lack of engine noise of something but it all felt off.

But I do like that they're highlighting the knock on impact and the abortion rights in the US rather than just the direct issues.

Norfolkungood · 26/11/2022 08:03

Reading this thread has inspired me to carry on watching where I left off. I think I was watching season 18? It was when the covid pandemic was. I got half way through and got bored. DH kept complaining Ellen Pompeo was getting paid to lay in bed. I think it must've been difficult to film during the pandemic and it showed.

Norfolkungood · 26/11/2022 08:09

😱I just googled and it was season 17 where I gave up! Looks like I have some catching up to do! Grey's Anatomy it is then during the dark winter evenings😁

Yes it was a shame it was so badly done because it does highlight a very important issue.

Also what annoyed me was this forcing of such close relationships with others that just weren't there before.

I dont remember Jackson and meredith being so close. That came from no where didn't it? I must be remembering wrong.

And I swear this episode had more Time meredith spent with zola than in the whole of the show put together.

CottageEmo · 26/11/2022 09:36

I think they were right to show a death from an ectopic rather than a botched abortion - the forced birthers in America are so haughty/self righteous about abortions and “that would never be me” attitude, that the only way to smack them in the face is something like this. Where it could be them. Where they wouldn’t find a doctor willing to risk prison that isn’t hours away, by which time it’s too late.

Badly filmed? Yep.

Having Mer leave to do something else like Yang did is the ending that Karev deserved. They overestimated the whole Izzy thing, fans didn’t like them together, especially after Jo, who is a much better fit. Range of options - he could have gone to Africa to work directly over there, as an off the top of my head example.

Badly orchestrated with Mer? Yep.

Zola - proper trauma therapy, not once a week, I’d also have accepted some ND Dx thrown in there too (ADHD would have been a better fit for Amelia over a brain tumour ffs). She also needs stability, and I can’t see Mer clocking out of research at 5pm every day and being home all weekend any more than she would if she were still doing surgery.

Making it all about Alzheimer’s was stupid and shows zero understanding of trauma and anxiety. That’s just what Zolas brain has focused on. It’s not the underlying fucking cause of it.

WhyDoesItAlways · 26/11/2022 09:39

I think Jackson and Meredith both bonded over their mum's being super successful big names in their career with high expectations. And I think when Jackson changed the name of the hospital to grey Sloane that obvs meant a lot to Meredith.

But you'd think with similar aged kids we may have seen a playdate or two but then they'd actually have to spend time with their kids for that.

DingDangMerrily · 07/12/2022 18:12

When do the new episodes drop, I thought we got a new one every Wednesday?

Alertthecorgis · 07/12/2022 18:29

I think it might be a season break. I’ve not got a new one nor one for station 19

DingDangMerrily · 07/12/2022 18:54

Shame.

burnoutbabe · 07/12/2022 19:15

Yes episode 6 was the last one us showed, I assume new ones come in February?
