Greys anatomy season 19

I’m not sure how I felt about it. Spoilers ahead:

It was a bit… fanfiction-y if that makes sense? Having one of the interns be Derek’s nephew.

What was with the bit in the locker room at the start? They’re all strangers, and they instantly start by being mean to a guy just for making a lame joke whilst introducing himself? And then one of them announces another’s sex life to the group? Very unrealistic.

Also, Amelia sent him to break the bad news and I thought that seemed like a terrible idea. Who would be expected to do that on their very first day? And shockingly it went wrong 🙄

I still find Nick really boring and think he and Meredith have zero chemistry. Ditto Maggie and her husband.

I was so glad to have got rid of Hunt last season, so I’m disappointed he’s back.

burnoutbabe · 26/10/2022 22:57

I assume this is uk pace? Do we need to amend the title?

I enjoyed episode 1. Though could do without Owen back.

Did Amelia and ky break up?

MissHavershamReturns · 27/10/2022 04:55

Need to watch episode 1 and come back and post!

I think it was supposed to reflect the first episode of Season 1 with them in the locker rooms. Doesn't Cristina make comments about Meredith, and I feel like Karev made comments similar to Adams? I may be misremembering though!

There was an interns mixer prior to them starting so I guess that's supposed to have happened again and they'll have already met.

I feel like I've missed some big plot lines! I even went back to the last episode of s18 to check I'd seen it! I've realised that the tornado story line is a Station 19 episode (irritating). But what happened about the residents program being closed? And have Amelia and Kai broken up? And I thought there was a blossoming romance between Jo and Atticus? And wasn't Maggie and Winston's marriage on the rocks?

I'm presuming all of these things will be explained as the season progresses but my overwhelming feeling was one of confusion!

RoachTheHorse · 27/10/2022 07:15

I've just finished. Loved that. That really had the feel of old school Grey's didn't it.

"It's a beautiful day to save lives" got me though. Even though it was cheese as all hell 🤣

Iknownothing · 27/10/2022 07:19

I really hate it when they cross over with station 19 and expect you to know who’s who and what’s happened but season 19 is looking promising!

The residency program got shut down in the last series doesn't it? The acto who plays Kai is definitely in this series so I'm guessing they're doing some sort of storyline around that! The Link/Jo thing really confused me though.

Joining this thread! Not watched the first episode yet but glad to hear of some good reviews the last few seasons haven't been the best

NotLactoseFree · 27/10/2022 09:43

I enjoyed it way more than I expected to. The locker room stuff was definitely a throwback to season 1 - the point being that these are all highly competitive, not necessarily very nice, people who over the next 5million series we'll learn are actually complicated, flawed and, at heart, good people! Grin

Is Station 19 on Disney too? I need to go check as I have been enjoying that over the last few seasons.

I did think that sending interns off to tell he families was ridiculous. In previous episodes we've always had the whole, "part of our job is to teach you how to deliver bad news" thing. And Maggie being so excited at the heart then all chilled out when it didn't work was odd. But suspect these are glitches as a new writing team irons out odd little things.

Kindofcrunchy · 27/10/2022 09:43

I'm still slogging through season 13!!

MapleandAcorn · 27/10/2022 09:48

I have been a Greys fan for the whole 19 seasons and this is the best series I’ve seen since about season 10.
It feels like Greys used to and I am absolutely loving it!

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 27/10/2022 09:55

How did the last season end? Can't remember if I gave up on it halfway through.

RoachTheHorse · 27/10/2022 11:52

Last season Hung had been killing people with stolen drugs, but apparently money has fixed that.

Meredith had broken up with Nick and Bailey had gone on a break so Mer is chief.

18 wasn't the strongest reason I don't think. I'm almost happy to gloss over it and start anew with 19 🤣

RoachTheHorse · 27/10/2022 11:52

Hunt!!

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/10/2022 11:53

It wasn't a bad episode but its frustrating sometimes to simply start months later with no explanation as to wtf happened.

MapleandAcorn · 27/10/2022 13:23

If you watch Station 19, their episodes are always on before Greys and often feed into eachother. They covered the storm before Greys.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 27/10/2022 13:28

DD and I watched this yesterday and it definitely felt like Grey’s of old, loved the callback scene in the locker room.

Disappointed Kai will be returning though, not a fan of their character.

And yes if we can keep this thread UL pace with no spoilers that would be ace!

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 27/10/2022 13:48

Thanks @RoachTheHorse . I think I managed to stick it out, your summary rang some bells!

plenty of us dont watch S19 its soo annoying

Faircastle · 27/10/2022 18:14

Just watched S19 E01 and actually quite enjoyed it. It was a bit of an echo of S01 E01 but it felt more watchable than a lot of the stuff in the last two seasons.

Faircastle · 27/10/2022 18:15

By S19 I mean Season 19 of Grey's (not Station 19).

FairyLightAddict · 27/10/2022 19:14

I really enjoyed the first episode. Back to a big of the old magic.

I've just started Station 19. I forgot how hot Ben Warren is. Lucky Miranda 😂

I cant bear Ben, he's such an insufferable know it all

pastabest · 27/10/2022 23:53

In fairness they did a better job of not making the stuff that happens on station 19 important to understanding the Greys storyline.

station 19 ep 1 was about the tornado but the actual tornado thing featured in greys wasn't part of the station 19 episode.

I finally cracked and started watching station 19 when all the de Luca stuff happened because I hadn't the foggiest what was going on.

I actually really like station 19 now so... that's fine.
