I know I’m very late to the party and I’m sure there are other threads though I couldn’t see one. But bloody hell! It’s absolutely incredible. Heard there was a new season starting so went to the beginning to see if it was any good. I didn’t like League of Gebtleman so didn’t have high hopes. Binged the first season in a couple of evenings and can’t wait for more. Anyone else love it? Does it stay as great through s2 and beyond?

Don’t forget s7 tonight

I’m working as usual but will catch up tomorrow and avoid this thread from 10pm

LizzieSiddal · 20/04/2022 22:38

I really enjoyed this but didn’t get the ending. 🤔

Wingedharpy · 20/04/2022 23:07

@LizzieSiddal : Google" Charon", from Greek mythology and all should become clear.
I loved tonight's episode.
That fine line between comedy and heart rending tragedy so brilliantly done.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2022 04:21

That was good. I had an inking that Bonnie was dead

LizzieSiddal · 21/04/2022 06:54

Thank you Wingedharoy! The ending makes sense now.

senua · 21/04/2022 13:39

Can someone explain it to me.
Was Laurence dead, too?
Bonnie was dead ... but so what?

Are we still looking for a hare?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2022 14:56

Yes I didn’t see the hare last night but often i don’t even when looking for it

then someone will say it’s x and I go back and see it 😂

I assuming the other 3 were alive but grim reaper did say they were ok and other side so maybe they died

LizzieSiddal · 21/04/2022 14:59

There’s a podcast on BBC iplayer, the writers take about each episode, just listened to last nights and it gave a lot of insight into the episode. I’d highly recommend.

senua · 21/04/2022 16:01

There’s a podcast on BBC iplayer
Yeah, I know but it's billed as "a treat for League of Gentlemen fans as Mark, Reece and Steve reminisce about their early friendship whilst Diane comes clean about an accidental Amazon over-order." It's 43 minutes long (I always think that it's bonkers that the exposition is longer than the programme Grin ) so it sounds like there's a lot of 'other' before we get to any actual explanations ...

Pretty please.

Saucery · 21/04/2022 20:39

Laurence was dead, so the others were on the ‘other’ side to him.
I don’t think the person in the trees was Charon, it could have been a fisherman like they said so perhaps they rescued the others.
That was a very sad one. I like the way you don’t really know which way it’s going to go in the first 10 minutes.

Wingedharpy · 21/04/2022 21:04

Deffo Charon for me @Saucery , hence the scene where Reece Shearsmith "coughed up" the silver coin.

I agree, Laurence was dead and didn't we hear a woman (presumably his wife), say hello Laurence, when he got out of the boat?

The line, "was she a hamster?" just had me in stitches.

Saucery · 21/04/2022 21:11

Ah no, I think they were separate ‘people’, so a fisherman on the shore who rescued the 3 still alive and Charon the boatman transporting Laurence to the other side to be with his wife, because he had died of hypothermia.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/04/2022 21:44

The hooded figure was absolutely Charon - the boat to ferry him to the other side, the coin in Laurence’s mouth to pay him. He died at Bonnie’s shrine. The other three were rescued somehow.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2022 21:50

And the hare

anyone spot it

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 21/04/2022 21:51

I thought I spotted it on the shrine.

LizzieSiddal · 22/04/2022 07:43

On the podcast they said it was Charon in the boat.

No, there was only one figure and it was Charon. There was no separate fisherman. Charon had been ‘watching Laurence for some time’ because he had been considering or longing for death. For the purposes of the narrative it doesn’t matter how the other three were rescued.

I thought I spotted it on the shrine.

I did rewind and too dark but maybe on left of it

bookpie · 22/04/2022 11:59

As with quite a lot of inside no.9 I enjoyed the lead up and dialogue and less satisfied with the denouement!
Loved seeing Mark Gatiss, and I like Diane Morgan but she does tend to crop up everywhere now!

senua · 22/04/2022 12:02

Thanks all.
So Laurence was alive, initially, but got hypothermia from jumping in the lake and died from that. Just as he couldn't move on in life (still in University town, now teaching the course he used to study) he couldn't (didn't want to?) get past the loss of Bonnie.
A rather thin plot (I thought that there might be more to it than that) but padded out with a compare-and-contrast of various experiences of University: excelled but didn't like the subsequent rat-race life; became an academic; dropped out because of undiagnosed learning disability; never went in the first place.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/04/2022 18:32

I've watched and re watched so many episodes , not so much Series 6 , some of them took a few views (though I tried with The Heist and The Proms one , I just couldn't understand them. Loved the one with the lip reader )

There have been threads way back about Top3 favourite episodes (mostly so unfair , cannot just pick 3 Grin )

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/04/2022 19:42

I laughed and cried.

Par for the course with 9 for me.

it was sad and beautiful and poignant and funny. Life in a boat.

The realisation on Laurence’s face at the end broke my heart.

I want to feel something when I watch a programme. I want to think. Inside No 9 just gets to me like that. Others programmes touch my heart too.

although I also watch MIC and with that I now feel mostly irritation. And the only thing I think is that most of them have impossibly white teeth.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/04/2022 11:37

I’m rewatching the all again

forgotten how much I liked the Christmas Christine 13 one

that was clever

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 25/04/2022 12:46

Ah - Christine was wonderful. Lovely stuff.

phlebasconsidered · 25/04/2022 17:23

Gatiss' ghostly xmas ones are great too.

I love the one with the mad fan insisting on an ending rewrite and the one with Nicola Walker and the hideous jigsaw puzzling husband.
