Sorry to jump on. I LOVEEE Derry girls. I love it that much I called my 15 month old Orla! (We're from an Irish family and all have Irish names)

@SirChenjins

Because men just aren’t asked questions about their age (or their clothes, or their appearance, or how they juggle family life and so on) in the same way women are. If he’d been interviewing tge man who plays James my money is on him asking how he draws on his teenage years for inspiration rather than his age (which he could have found in about 5 seconds on Google)
This. Good for Jamie-Lee
AnnesBrokenSlate · 18/04/2022 18:27

The age question is part of a larger culture of misogyny. Female actors are pigeonholed because of their age and it impacts their career in a way it doesn't impact males. Plus there is a long history of comedy teens being played by adults. I can't think of any famous teen comedy character who wasn't played by someone much older.

She was dead right to question his motives.

The show was brilliant, very relatable the Friday night visit to the video shop, extra charge for not restarting the tape.

It brings me back - previous series with the red ticket for collecting photos I'd forgotten about the craziness of having photos developed, the paranoia around the bowl.

Brilliant music throughout.

Liam Neeson was the cherry on top.

It was a bit rude, true. He could have asked her about playing a teenager when she isn't one anymore and if she could bring something to the part from her own experience of the teenage years. But I just don't get the misogyny thing in this instance, and usually I would be all over it.

I completely agree with you. I would also be all over it if I thought it was misogynistic. I still think he would have asked Dylan Llewellyn the same question.

I also think she's probably bored of being asked the same question. I do think she came across as a bit of a gobshite. In fact she acted like a teenage brat. Maybe she doesn't have to do too much acting.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 14:20

She’s probably fed up of hearing the same old misogynistic crap.

I think we should agree to disagree on our thoughts on what being misogynistic is. Smile

EmeraldShamrock1 · 19/04/2022 15:45

If he'd have thought about her first answer with some care he'd have accepted she didn't want to answer the question "I'm a 117" was indirectly refusing to answer however he went for it again.

I often see this with male interviewers, Tommy Tiernan is the same terrible interviewing Amy H.

As a professional they should watch for signs and blow backs.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 16:57

Interesting. You’d have thought he would have taken 5 seconds out of his schedule to Google her age if he was that interested and then he wouldn’t have had to ask her a second time.

Looking forward to tonight’s episode. Lisa McGee on 5Live earlier said there will be a strong storyline for Ma Mary.

Riapia · 19/04/2022 20:04

I can’t find the previous series on More4.
Have they been removed.

BlueSpottedGiraffe · 19/04/2022 20:20

They were on there last week as I watched a couple of eps from S2, S1 is also on Netflix.
Cleebope2 · 19/04/2022 20:57

Do you mean All4? They should still be there.

triggery · 19/04/2022 21:05

Don't watch on Netflix! They changed the music and it's just not as nice. Grin

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 21:32

Brilliant episode tonight so far!

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 21:33

Yes I’m enjoying this one! Mary’s rant was amazing, we can all relate to that.

SirChenjins · 19/04/2022 21:37

Oh absolutely - I think I’ve said most of what came out of her mouth there. We also have a very handsome young man who does a lot of trades work in our house and my family were killing themselves laughing at the similarities!

lugeforlife · 19/04/2022 21:47

Lol James/Posh.

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 21:52

Thought this was a considerable improvement on last week’s episode

minou123 · 19/04/2022 21:55

I'm going to sound very middle class here, but it wasn't the plumber in my house, it was the fish man!

He was incredibly gorgeous and would come round in a van to sell fish (like an ice cream man)
All the women, including my mother would sprint like greyhounds to get to him first Grin

At 16, it was so embarrassing watching my mother flirt over a seabass. Grin

Ulysses · 19/04/2022 21:55

Loved that episode.

Cleebope2 · 19/04/2022 21:55

They made an awesome Spice Girls. Loved Ma’s storyline with Levi Ad guy. I saw that actress play shirley Valentine and also Rita in Educating Rita. Definitely channeling Willy Russell in that episode!

Floralnomad · 19/04/2022 21:56

This episode really picked up towards the end
