@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

“You can’t trust Das, das are just Ma enablers" was my favourite moment!
Loved that line plus the accolade to Mo Mowlam ‘ knew it would take awoman’ such a feminist show
Redcrayons · 12/04/2022 22:46

I loved it, some really funny bits. Nicola Cougan should dial its own a few notches though

mrdarcyfan · 12/04/2022 22:48

I was really disappointed with this episode. The story line was stupid and just not funny. The only laugh I had was when Colm bored the police half to death.I hope it picks up as I loved the first two series.

Jewel1968 · 12/04/2022 22:50

There were episodes in season 1 and 2 that weren't top notch but overall it was great. It's a bit hit and miss but overall I enjoy it.

Andacherryonthetop · 12/04/2022 22:50

I love Derry girls and was so excited for this series but also feel this episode was nowhere near as good as previous ones. Agree about the overacting- hopefully it gets better and matches up to the previous series soon!

MichelleScarn · 12/04/2022 22:54

Uncle Colm to the rescue! And agree Das are just Ma enablers!

thinking123 · 12/04/2022 23:00

The whole thing just felt very forced and stilted. Shame

PrincessesRUs · 12/04/2022 23:01

I thought it was overly hysterical and over acted so all in all disappointing - it was the other family members that kept it from being terrible.

saraclara · 12/04/2022 23:26

I'm SO disappointed. They all suddenly looked like the mature adults they are. The intervening years seem to have made a massive difference to their looks in that regard, so instead of coming across as daft but witty teenagers, they were stupid mature women acting ridiculously.

It just wasn't funny at all. Ridiculous and very false overacting.

This & I'm fucking sick of peace were mine!

Absolute class!

bibliomania · 13/04/2022 07:40

Loved Uncle Colm and the Spanish Armada. Agree that it wasn't a classic episode but hoping it picks up. As the last series, I want it to go out on a high.

Samcro · 13/04/2022 07:46

found it very funny

irishfeminist · 13/04/2022 08:38

I loved season 1. I think they were already stretching it a bit thinly in series 2 and thought the ending was perfect with the Bill Clinton/ceasefire episode. I was really surprised there was a series 3 and I agree with a pp, they look ridiculously old now to be playing teenagers, they're all between 28 and 35! It was very tired. Loved Big Liam's surprise appearance though!

Taytocrisps · 13/04/2022 08:58

I loved the RUC constable counting the Jewish officer as a Catholic. And the video they were making at the start of the episode - it was so typically teenage angsty. And the Da giving out to the girls for renting a filthy DVD when it was actually the Ma and aunt. They packed a lot into one short episode. My favourite bit was the story about Diego.

“You see her story didn’t quite add up, because the Spanish Armada happened in 1588, and you see Diego, as they called him, he was born four centuries later” 😂😂😂

Think Liam Neeson is from Ballymena, close-ish to Derry, what a joy to see him make a cameo!

bibliomania · 13/04/2022 10:21

Loved their furtive exchange of glances at the mention of American Gigilo.

rc22 · 13/04/2022 12:02

I was a bit disappointed but the moment that turned it round for me was when I clicked they were about to get uncle Colm down to the police station to wear the police down. Liam Neeson's cameo was lovely too and as far as I can see a well kept secret.

rc22 · 13/04/2022 12:05

@MarmiteCoriander

Having never seen the series, I was looking forward to it from people raving about it. All the comedy bits were in the adverts and rest was blah IMO. Maybe I'm too old as an early 40's, and maybe I was expecting more? A few laughs, yes, but overall not for me.
Give the first series a go on All 4. Much better than last night's episode.
LadyEloise1 · 13/04/2022 12:08

Liam Neeson - Wowsers. And I can see the teeny tiny similarity with AD, for a split second I thought it was him but I also thought I spotted James Nesbitt 🙈

Uncle Colm droning on and on - I remember seeing the actor/ comic doing this years ago as a comedy routine on Irish television. 😀

CornishGem1975 · 13/04/2022 12:12

I enjoyed it.

I've thought that Erin and Claire overacted since S1 E1 so this was no different. It took me ages to get used to Erin's gurning when I first started watching Derry Girls.

SirChenjins · 13/04/2022 18:10

I really enjoyed it. Parts of it were over-acted, but that’s teenage angst and drama for you. Liam Neeson’s cameo was brilliant, Sister Michael was as blistering in her disdain as always, and Ma Mary was on top form as the matriarch. Look forward to seeing seeing the storyline developments.

I thought it was brill and has a conversation with my husband about a kid in my school who was Muslim and remember him being asked whether he was a Protestant Muslim or a Catholic Muslim! (I didn't ask the question by the way!)

Me too. She put me off initially and then came round to her as they're both 'typical' angsty teen girls!

The gurning is very distracting I actually thought she’d toned it down by series 3!
PlasticineMeg · 13/04/2022 19:41

Also, who cares about the overacting - it’s a comedy, and a far fetched one at that, it’s not gonna be hankering for an Oscar any time soon. It’s there to be laughed at!
