When it comes to the BBC's drama output, 2022 has gotten off to a very strong start – with an array of such as including The Tourist, The Responder and Four Lives all having impressed viewers so far.

And one of the next series to arrive on our screens is brand new thriller Chloe, which is billed by the BBC as a "mystery about obsession, deceit, identity, and grief".

The series tells the story of Bristol-based Becky Green, who takes on a new identity in a bid to uncover the mysterious death of a social media influencer whose seemingly perfect life she had been closely following.

The official plot synopsis provided by the BBC reads: "The thriller follows Becky Green who has been watching Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) via her perfect social media images for some time; Chloe’s charmed life, adoring husband and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away.

"Becky can’t resist watching a life that contrasts so starkly with her own; a life spent caring for her mother, who has early-onset dementia, in their small seaside flat on the outskirts of Bristol. When Chloe dies suddenly, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe's closest friends to find out what happened to her."

Anyway. Who has seen

I’m still confused. So she stole £5k from joint account
to start new life

Left money in hotel after running away but not sure what made her run

Who was long haired druggie in car

Said shout getting money or he would tell

Did she jump even when so close to Becky’s home

I loved it . Bit slow in parts and I could do with watching it again as I was always totally focussed .
My questions are Was a body definitely found as I kept thinking Chloe might still be alive . Why did her friend go to the caravan if not looking for Chloe as she certainly didn't expect Becky to be there .
Also do you think there could be another series ? I just felt it still left a lot open at the end .

Clawdy · 21/02/2022 22:44

I like the rather low key ending, it made a change from the usual improbable twists and violent endings. I felt Elliott pushed her accidentally, and will suffer now everyone knows what he is really like. It seemed quite a satisfactory conclusion for Becky.

Monopolyiscrap · 21/02/2022 23:19

I liked the low key ending. Far more realistic.

augustusglupe · 22/02/2022 00:09

I absolutely loved it. So good to have a really good drama, well acted by all the cast.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/02/2022 06:32

perhaps Liv went to the caravan just because she found out about it, she said she found out the same way that Becky did
i believe Chloe saw Richard just to borrow his car.
and that Elliott pushed Chloe

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/02/2022 06:33

agree, the ending was low key, which it needed to be, i would have hate an OTT ending.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/02/2022 09:19

Think I need to rewatch it as I’m still confuddled.

kindlyensure · 22/02/2022 13:59

I didn't mind the ending. I thought it was good to leave some things unresolved rather than tie everything up. However I think this deffo started better than it ended. It was particularly strong from the get-go, whereas often series take a time to warm up. However towards the end I found the over-reliance on night-time rummaging, phone messages read in the dark and mainly a guy who literally never woke up while all this was happening (despite being a controlling abuser by day) a bit wearisome.

Also, Liv turning up at the caravan at the end (having seemingly only been told in passing of its existence) and saying she had found it the same way Becky had, quite ridiculous. After all it had taken Becky 4 episodes, fake swimming, a visit to druggie rehab, nighttime rummaging, diaries and phones etc to find it - plus she had the key with 28 on it. How did Livs know the number for eg?

Also, chloe's childhood bedroom had deffo had an interior makeover. It looked way too pulled together and grown-up. And yet, despite the glow-up, the teenage box of memories was still under the bed.

Also, it seemed that maybe Chloe and Becky had the bond of disinterested mothers. I mean, Chloe's mum was pretending to herself that Elliot had nothing to do with it. That's why I think it worked in the end though, because the bond between Becky and Chloe was so well-played, so even though Becky appeared at first as a con artist, she was always sympathetic because she was the only one who really 'saw' Chloe.

Yeah, on balance a good series. Thank you, Blondes for the thread. I am so sorry about your dp also.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2022 14:11

I’m still confused how she died

@Blondeshavemorefun

I’m still confused how she died
I don't think she intended to kill herself. She wanted to get away from Elliot, who was controlling even her parents, and I think he chased her to her death.

She called Becky because everyone else had failed her and perhaps she was hoping Becky would come and meet her. Sadly Becky ignored her call because she thought it was Josh.

UglyModernWindows · 22/02/2022 14:24

I really enjoyed it on the whole. I agree on the few plot holes though, like how would Liv find out the number of the caravan? Finding the caravan site yes (by just googling the closest one maybe) but only Becky had the key with the number on it.

And yes at the all the night time fumbling too. You'd think Becky would have been knackered as she never seemingly slept.

Did Becky share the recording of Elliot's attack on Chloe's Insta?

Re: Chloe's death, I took it was left ambigious whether Elliot pushed her or whether she slipped whilst running away from him.

Becky's mum's care home bills. Was it the 5K that Becky left in notes? That would cover about 3-4 weeks worth and that's it. What then?

Becky landed on her feet by finding the caravan, considering she was jobless and homeless. I have to say, if I was on my own, I'd love to live in a caravan like that (even though Liv said it was grim), it looked like a good size and overlooked the sea. I'd be snug as a bug there Grin.

Flowers for Blondes

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/02/2022 20:15

i dont think she ignored the call because she thought it was Josh, she met Josh after she pretended to be Sasha

xsquared · 22/02/2022 20:58

@MrsLargeEmbodied

i dont think she ignored the call because she thought it was Josh, she met Josh after she pretended to be Sasha
She met Josh as Helena first and had a one night stand with him. There were two missed calls in the morning from unrecognised number which thought was Josh's. Either way, she didn't manage to speak to Chloe.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/02/2022 06:16

oh i forgot @xsquared

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2022 09:13

Tho surely if a good friend of hers wouldn’t she have kept Chloe’s number in her phone

I have numbers from friends I havnt seen fir years

OP posts:
Mooserp · 23/02/2022 09:34

I'm guessing Chloe had a new phone number.

I didn't understand how Liv ended up at the caravan and also how she had a key to get in?

alltheapples · 23/02/2022 09:40

Yes the caravan was anything but grim. Those views for a start.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2022 10:49

I didn’t think liv had a key. But that Becky didn’t lock

OP posts:
fussychica · 23/02/2022 11:38

Such a great start which almost inevitably couldn't sustain the quality and interest for 6 episodes, despite an excellent turn from Erin Doherty. Multiple plot holes, very slow moving. Nearly gave up at Episode 4 but kept with it to the bitter end. Probably shouldn't have bothered. Disappointed.
