When it comes to the BBC's drama output, 2022 has gotten off to a very strong start – with an array of such as including The Tourist, The Responder and Four Lives all having impressed viewers so far.

And one of the next series to arrive on our screens is brand new thriller Chloe, which is billed by the BBC as a "mystery about obsession, deceit, identity, and grief".

The series tells the story of Bristol-based Becky Green, who takes on a new identity in a bid to uncover the mysterious death of a social media influencer whose seemingly perfect life she had been closely following.

The official plot synopsis provided by the BBC reads: "The thriller follows Becky Green who has been watching Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) via her perfect social media images for some time; Chloe’s charmed life, adoring husband and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away.

"Becky can’t resist watching a life that contrasts so starkly with her own; a life spent caring for her mother, who has early-onset dementia, in their small seaside flat on the outskirts of Bristol. When Chloe dies suddenly, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe's closest friends to find out what happened to her."

@foxlover47 she said Tokyo so you must have misheard Turkey.

So is The Smiths reference meant for her then?

foxlover47 · 06/02/2022 23:34

@Rollergirl11 I am blaming my
Glass of baileys 🙈🤣
That answer phone message she left on Chloe's phone will def come back to haunt her

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/02/2022 01:55

Completely bewildered by the jumping about but it's drawn me in.

I think Chloe and Becky were best friends and then their paths diverged (Chloe wrote about her new school).

But where is B getting all her jewellery, clothes etc?

JemimaTab · 07/02/2022 07:23

I’m quite liking this - it’s a bit different from the usual. It has a slightly creepy, unsettling feel. (Am up to episode 3 but no spoilers).

TheChosenTwo · 07/02/2022 07:49

Thanks @secretfreckle I was texting my mum at that part, this programme is obviously one which requires your full attention at all times.
Feel like she is suffering from some kind of psychosis or something, it’s drawn me in and I am planning on watching them all this week so I will possibly have to just read this thread but not post once I have!

With reference to the Josh on phone thing, I did think in her phone josh was listed twice? So one was the actual josh and the other was chloes number. So she'd assumed the missed call was from him and added it to her phone as josh, but when he gave her his number she realised it hadn't been him. Although makes no sense because the police told her it was chloe that called her. Did chloe leave a voicemail I missed that if she did?

whatsthestory123 · 07/02/2022 09:58

watched them all into the small hours
NO soilers but did get better but still abit confused
will be watching this thread for the answers lol😊

foxlover47 · 07/02/2022 09:59

I'm on the near end of episode 2 , it's one of those that you must watch and concentrate on and def reels you in! I'll watch it all no doubt after work but no spoiler I promise !
I think instagram etc has made it so easy to obsess over other peoples lives ...

Yes it was listed twice. After she had sex with Josh she noticed 2 missed calls on her phone from a number not in her contacts so I think she just assumed it was Josh’s no and added the number as that. Then the police called her and told her that Chloe had called her twice on the night she died and then she went back and looked at her phone and realised that the two calls she assumed were from Josh were actually from Chloe. But then you see flashbacks later on where she answers the phone and briefly speaks to Chloe but she didn’t seem to remember that initially.

Then when she bumps in to Josh again he puts his number in her phone so she now has 2 contacts with Josh. Which is the point of the scene when the friend insists she calls him right there and then in the car, that she knows one of the contacts is Chloe’s phone but she doesn’t know which one is which. So she had to take a chance and obviously we see that she picks Chloe’s number.

DH perked up when he saw The Smiths quote on Instagram. He perked down pretty fast when "nothing made sense" after that and sloped off to watch curling on his phone (not a euphemism).

I thought it was OK, but some of the wildly convoluted things like saving the wrong number for Josh felt like scriptwriters brainstorming 'how do we get her to leave a message by accident on Chloe's phone?' But the infiltration-by-social-media was clever - it reminded me of the BBC Sounds podcast about Anna Delvey - I was waiting for someone to challenge her about the Tokyo art world. Or the art world at all.

The lovely clothes - think she's doing a classic line in 'buy, wear and return' (which is how come she had a label still attached to the yoga outfit top she was wearing - the one that Olivia pulled off).

I'm getting confused seeing so many familiar faces from other dramas. It took me a while to recognise 'Herman' and 'George Warleggan'. What a difference a haircut makes!

good point about the clothes tags makes sense
Graffittiunderpass · 07/02/2022 20:59

Totally engrossed. I can't watch ahead (live in a Ireland), but that Richard guy recognised Becky. That was odd.

I'm wondering did Becky kill her. Why was she outside smoking in the wee small hours? She looked like she'd been crying.

Her mum said she'd been spotted by someone in Bristol or somewhere?

That's my theory

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/02/2022 21:00

I thought the flashbacks were of her and her friend who died ?

mizu · 07/02/2022 21:10

I love how when she's with Liv she talks like her, Liv is very dislikeable but I love her clothes!

Wherearemymarbles · 07/02/2022 21:36

Finding the whole thing incredibly annoying and crap im afraid!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/02/2022 22:01

Interesting dress. Means hideous

Not sure why she thinks needs the arty floaty clothes

The flashbacks are confusing

Is that her friend who died

Sasha shouldn't bait Josh. Cats lol

Guess she got her wish. Tho she owes Josh a dinner

She is def a stalker !!

Tho Chloe's hubby thought they were ttc

But Chloe was having the contraceptive jab

Hmmmmm

Plot thickens - did chloe tell her a secret

And how did she get her number originally

Roll on next Sunday

Utter nonsense about the one hour a day carer telling her what she told her... don't want to spoil it for anyone. I've just finished episode 3

ChristmasPlanning · 07/02/2022 23:10

Really enjoying it so far

Rollergirl11 · 07/02/2022 23:11

@Blondeshavemorefun the flashbacks are of Becky and Chloe. They were obviously friends when they were young. I’m actually starting to think that they were more than friends.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/02/2022 23:14

I'm up to the end of episode 4. Starting to enjoy it more now, it's getting very interesting.

No spoilers, but all I will say is the clothes are getting proper unsightly. Like, really bad.

Rollergirl11 · 07/02/2022 23:14

It’s a bit of a stretch that everyone is so trusting. And I’d be really annoyed if someone offered me a lift home and then admitted after they had driven that they have had too much to drink!

One thing I am finding really annoying, is that they are making no nods whatsoever to the bloody drink driving laws of the land
