When it comes to the BBC's drama output, 2022 has gotten off to a very strong start – with an array of such as including The Tourist, The Responder and Four Lives all having impressed viewers so far.

And one of the next series to arrive on our screens is brand new thriller Chloe, which is billed by the BBC as a "mystery about obsession, deceit, identity, and grief".

The series tells the story of Bristol-based Becky Green, who takes on a new identity in a bid to uncover the mysterious death of a social media influencer whose seemingly perfect life she had been closely following.

The official plot synopsis provided by the BBC reads: "The thriller follows Becky Green who has been watching Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) via her perfect social media images for some time; Chloe’s charmed life, adoring husband and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away.

"Becky can’t resist watching a life that contrasts so starkly with her own; a life spent caring for her mother, who has early-onset dementia, in their small seaside flat on the outskirts of Bristol. When Chloe dies suddenly, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe's closest friends to find out what happened to her."

Also, it just occurred to me...

So Chloe's friends (PR person, politician, artist - so used to insta/social media etc PLUS had some prior knowledge of Becky through Chloe and had actually met her before...) couldn't find 'Becky Green' by googling....

yet early on, hottie Josh (who had seemingly only just met her) was able to easily find her on google and send her a picture of herself.....

Hmm. That said am still enjoying it and looking forward to the denouement.

As said before they only met her once when she was younger with her hood up standing in the rain. They were also drunk.
WotgunShedding · 20/02/2022 00:30

They had a quick Google at an exhibition so doubt they spent too long looking for her!

The flashbacks of Chloe’s adult life are her imaging what might have happened as she learns more aren’t they? So they aren’t necessarily accurate but reflect what Becky thinks may have happened, which changes constantly as she’s always learning new things.

Fedupsotired · 20/02/2022 07:28

Not reading any posts beyond episode two as that's all we've watched, I'm enjoying it but feel it should be a 4 parter and not a 6, I feel it might drag on!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/02/2022 22:01

Chloe and Richard. Which we knew but no sex

Elliot is a little possessive. Yes I get he gets worried but he's too much

Checking for accidents. Smelling of chlorine

So Chloe jumped in pool to smell of chlorine then saw Richard but not for sex

Was that Richard in the car saying he would tell Elliot. Or another skanky long hair bloke

Who is Natalia that Lucia is messaging about sasha

Did Elliot hid her keys ?

Chloe def didn't want kids with Elliot tho if doing ivf she would have had blood tests done which I'm sure would have showed up hormones of contraception

Confused as usual

Let's hope all is revealed tomorrow

natalie is a pretend friend from Japan

Elliot is needy and controlling, interesting to see how it works out tonight. Just hope we don't get the usual unlikely ending - or even worse, a cliffhanger for a second series!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/02/2022 08:47

yes, also worried about how it ends
i think Liv is suspicious of her
i wish she would tell the truth
and i cant stand all that snooping around in the dark

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/02/2022 08:57

chloe borrowed richard's car to drive to caravan

kindlyensure · 21/02/2022 09:59

Right, I am still really enjoying it and I get that with the theme of social media there has to be a good smattering of online clues and messages but that does not always lend itself to good telly and there was rather a lot of scrabbling around in the dark potting shed and checking of phone messages that I couldn't quite tell who were from....Also this Elliot guy is a very heavy sleeper. I mean, Becky/Sasha is never in that bed. She's always up and rummaging.

I enjoyed all the different strands though - swimming pool, caravan, locked in house (deffo Elliot did that coz he did the same thing to Chloe)...who cares what they are leading to. Is all a good caper.

I was left with the impression that the circle of 'friends' are indeed like a cage with Elliott in the centre -they are all feeding off him, whether it be the PR woman or his fixer guy who is going to do 'due diligence' on 'Sasha'. And Chloe was trying to break away. Maybe with the help of druggie supplier George Warleggen?

I liked it at the end when Becky kind of morphed into Chloe through the revolving doors - so Chloe left and Becky comes through. In her mind she is turning into Chloe? Maybe she has some kind of memory loss (or the childhood flashbacks we are looking at are actually swapped and she is really Chloe in those....dunno.)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how they tie this up but really hope to see more of Erin Doherty in future. She is so watchable.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/02/2022 10:10

it is a really good story

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2022 12:10

@MrsLargeEmbodied

natalie is a pretend friend from Japan
Oh hence why on Becky Phone as she did account

Thanks

Wondering if Elliot pushed her

Assume she died off the cliff ?

Elliott and co are looking suspicious

Viviennemary · 21/02/2022 13:57

I am only on episode one. It has got me hooked. Tried a few similar and lost interest. Best for ages.

butterpuffed · 21/02/2022 17:42

This is the best drama I've seen for a while , she's very watchable.

I think, Blondes, that you're right, Elliott had the keys already.
He's controlling, always wanting to know where Becky is, but may have had something to do with Chloe's death as well. In fact, maybe more than one was involved.

xsquared · 21/02/2022 18:44

Yep, Elliot definitely gaslit Becky about the keys.

He pretends to be the vulnerable, sensitive one and that Chloe was the one who wasn't right in the head. He is/was coercive not just towards Chloe but also to his circle of friends/flying monkeys, which is how this type of abuser operates.

kindlyensure · 21/02/2022 18:48

I am also interested in this symbiotic relationship between Becky and Chloe. Becky's mum called Chloe 'the full package' and then a little later also called Becky the full package. Hmm... interesting.

Also hope the mum and Josh appear in the final episode because I liked the contrast with Becky's other life - or are we seeing Becky so far in to Chloe's life now these characters are not relevant?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2022 19:47

Why was Chloe meeting richard if not fir sex

OP posts:
Mooserp · 21/02/2022 20:37

I got the impression that chloe was trying to leave Elliot. Forged his signature to get £5k cash and was going to hide away in the caravan park. But the friends were blocking her escape so she had to just run.

Maybe she tried to speak to Becky to say sorry before she jumped?

xsquared · 21/02/2022 21:36

@Blondeshavemorefun

Why was Chloe meeting richard if not fir sex
Richard put her on a pedestal, and I guess she trusted him more than the others or was hoping that he would carry out some of the plan of her escape.
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2022 21:45

I guess I find why do people commit suicide hard as dh did the same

Is life so bad that it’s the only option

In Chloe’s case she had parents to help her

Or was she pushed

Did she really want to die
