When it comes to the BBC's drama output, 2022 has gotten off to a very strong start – with an array of such as including The Tourist, The Responder and Four Lives all having impressed viewers so far.

And one of the next series to arrive on our screens is brand new thriller Chloe, which is billed by the BBC as a "mystery about obsession, deceit, identity, and grief".

The series tells the story of Bristol-based Becky Green, who takes on a new identity in a bid to uncover the mysterious death of a social media influencer whose seemingly perfect life she had been closely following.

The official plot synopsis provided by the BBC reads: "The thriller follows Becky Green who has been watching Chloe Fairbourne (Poppy Gilbert) via her perfect social media images for some time; Chloe’s charmed life, adoring husband and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away.

"Becky can’t resist watching a life that contrasts so starkly with her own; a life spent caring for her mother, who has early-onset dementia, in their small seaside flat on the outskirts of Bristol. When Chloe dies suddenly, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe's closest friends to find out what happened to her."
@Blondeshavemorefun the flashbacks are of Becky and Chloe. They were obviously friends when they were young. I’m actually starting to think that they were more than friends.
Def is Chloe ?

So when she speaks of a friend dying. She actually means Chloe

Surely Chloe’s parents would recognise her

They don’t seem to have been shown yet

It was very dark. I can barely see what’s going on.

Rollergirl11 · 07/02/2022 23:24

Yes I’m pretty sure it’s Chloe. She has red hair. And she’s lying about having a friend that die. She said that to Olivia to cover for the fact that she looked visibly upset when Olivia was telling her about Chloe dying and Chloe asked her what was the mayter. Well that’s my take on it anyway.

Rollergirl11 · 07/02/2022 23:27

Olivia asked what was the matter, but Chloe.

Graffittiunderpass · 07/02/2022 23:33

I agree that she made up her friend Alex as a means to get Liv talking about Chloe.

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 08/02/2022 06:37

I’m enjoying it but it feels like the “Helena” bit was contrived to get Josh in a position where he knows she’s a fake. As ‘Sasha’ she seems to have a fully-fledged alter ego with a rehearsed backstory (all those podcasts) and a purpose, so why throw in a random one? They could have achieved the same result with just the bank card scene.

Also, did I hear her mother refer to ‘Sasha’ in the context of being Becky’s sister, in the scene where the mum could hear the baby crying through the wall? So it’s not just a random name she’s chosen…I wonder where the real Sasha is now? Did something tragic happen to her as a child?

JustDanceAddict · 08/02/2022 08:18

I’ve finished ep 3. Enjoying it but you need to suspend belief a bit!! Too many trusting people.
Becky is def talking about Chloe when she’s mentioning ‘Alex’

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2022 11:51

Oh missed that @OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg with mum and Becky

Maybe she did have a sister who died

Rollergirl11 · 08/02/2022 12:51

@OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg yes I heard the Mum saying Sasha when she heard the baby crying too. The Mum is really horrible to Becky and I don’t think it’s just the dementia at play. I think they are setting it up that the Mum was abusive or hated Becky pre dementia because in one of the flashback scenes young Becky comes back and says “I’m home” to the Mum and she just ignores her. I think it will have something to do with a sister we don’t know about yet.

I'm still enjoying it after episode 2. I have decided to have no theories (beyond maybe a kind of wishes she was Chloe single white female kind of scenario?) and am just going with it because I think it's visually interesting and Erin Doherty is very watchable.

I also like her relationship with Josh - I like that she has someone who has kind of sussed her out but is still on her side.

I would like George Warleggen to feature more though - was he more than just friends with Chloe? I wonder if he might recognise Sasha/Becky also but not realise/remember it yet (coz he is always drunk).

kindlyensure · 08/02/2022 14:42

(Also I would like to go at TV pace so I am trying to avoid posts that hint at further episodes - however subtle!)

butterpuffed · 08/02/2022 18:20

You're right, the title clearly says TV pace No Spoilers.

Really enjoying this, she's such a good actress and scarily believable to most but not to Josh , he still likes her though.

I didn't hear the mother saying Sasha, it all adds to the mystery.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2022 18:25

Yes no spoilers or mentioning what hasn’t been shown on tv bbc. Thanks

Ok I have 2 plot holes so far.

 1. If you add a number to your phone with a name if it rings the name would come up.
 2. if you block a number it cannot ring you, so the call would never have connected.
HappydaysArehere · 08/02/2022 18:46

Watched to almost end of second episode but the general confusion and ridiculous trust made on such short acquaintances began to irritate and bore me. Perhaps I should continue in the hope that things might spark up a bit.

Yeah, why would someone with a busy family and professional life, as well as what seems to be an active social life with a rather elite circle of friends, suddenly become besties with this girl who appeared out of nowhere?

I think she added the number to her phone as Josh and blocked it after she had the missed calls though, so at the time it rang it wasn't a contact in her phone and wasn't blocked, unless I've misunderstood?
Clawdy · 08/02/2022 22:15

A lot of whispering and muttered conversation last night, I needed subtitles, anyone else?

kindlyensure · 08/02/2022 22:57

Yes, the mumbled conversation at the party between Becky/Sacha and her NBF. Something about Chloe being a journalist? And kids? mumble mumble. Had to rewind to catch that.

I think NBF doesn't have any real friends coz she is a meanie - really pushy with Becky/Sascha insisting she phone Josh, gleefully saying she saved 2k by using her design skills, indicating she wasn't really close with Chloe. Which kind of makes it interesting that Becky is scamming her coz she doesn't seem that nice of a person.

It seems from the flashbacks that - at some point until they presumably fell out - Chloe and Becky had a genuine relationship so I'm all for her climbing over these fake people to get to the truth. Actually who is really fake. - Chloe's circle or Becky? Coz Chloe was obvs being shady with her husband so no one is really transparent. Deception all round here.

TheChosenTwo · 09/02/2022 07:44

I tend to watch a lot of programmes with subtitles on these days, it does really help fill in some gaps!

Rollergirl11 · 09/02/2022 07:59

The other thing I found utterly implausible was that Becky was prepared to go through with a procedure when she had no idea what it was. You wouldn’t just have a contraceptive injection like that? Couldn’t it be dangerous? What if she is already on contraception? I thought that was a really clunky bit of plot device. She’d already gone snooping in the house, surely it would have made more sense for her to find the contraceptive pill to demonstrate that Chloe was deceiving her husband?

HipHipPuree · 09/02/2022 09:42

I think the 'surprise!' contraceptive injection will prove to be another clunky plot device for something else, just as the confusion over the mistaken Josh phone number will end up implicating her when they check Chloe's messages. And I totally agree with the observations about Becky's 'drink driving' - at worst, someone who's about to stand for public office would be conscious of not getting in a car with a drink driver, and at best, he should have done an 'Oh yeah?' face as it's such a blatant ploy to stay for coffee and the rest.

My favourite thing about it so far is Becky's lovely old Mk II Golf.

RevolvingPivot · 09/02/2022 10:24

What episode is the tv pace up too? Im on 5.

TheChosenTwo · 09/02/2022 10:31

@RevolvingPivot think 2 but I started a (quiet!) thread the other day for those who have watched on. I’ve watched them all now, come over and join the thread there if you want to talk!
