Anyone else excited about the return of Endeavour tomorrow night??

Really looking forward to it!

@Frankley just said the same to DH.

PeppermintMocha · 26/09/2021 21:58

Oh they can't leave it like that, without us knowing what happens to SamShock

LIZS · 26/09/2021 21:58

Convoluted and speedy wrap up! Amazing how all the pcs got through the snowdrift.

Frankley · 26/09/2021 22:00

Thursday is not in any Morse episodes is he? I'm wondering what happens to him.

TigerDroveAgain · 26/09/2021 22:00

This is the worst Endeavour, it’s like a midsomer murder, what a load of nonsense

Clawdy · 26/09/2021 22:02

That was like an Agatha Christie Christmas special - but far more unbelievable! Grin

Graffittiunderpass · 26/09/2021 22:04

"It's beginning to thaw"

A nod to John Thaw perhaps?

PeppermintMocha · 26/09/2021 22:23

yes a bit odd how all the police could suddenly get to the hotel, when the bus couldn't, and the roads were so bad that the police were worried about getting home from the station

seemed more unrealistic than some episodes, though i still enjoyed it.

I wish there was more detective work all along that we could follow, and understand how he gets to the conclusion, rather than just having it sprung on us at the end - that always feels a bit disappointing somehow, no build up, just random miraculous connections between clues that the audience has no way of guessing

I also worry about Thursday, given that he doesn't appear in Morse. Does something bad happen to Sam, and thus to Thursday, and his family/marriage. I don't remember if Strange appears in Morse or not, and if he does, whether he is with Joan. I still think Joan does have kind of a soft spot for Morse, even if it comes to nothing.

PatchworkElmer · 26/09/2021 22:34

@PeppermintMocha Strange is in Morse- he’s Detective Chief Superintendent- Morse’s boss. Not sure about if he marries Joan though!

JaneJeffer · 26/09/2021 23:05

It was a bit Enid Blyton with the secret codes. The guy in the psychiatric unit had the creepiest eyes.

Davros · 26/09/2021 23:12

I enjoyed it but it was utter drivel

JaneJeffer · 26/09/2021 23:14

Same Grin

ValerieCupcake · 27/09/2021 11:16

@PatchworkElmer

I can’t cope with this tonight 😂😂

VERY Christie-esque

It was pure hokum, especially the end when there are several people explaining what had happened. Just like the 'cosy' crime dramas that you can't take seriously. It would have been ok as a one off for Halloween but not part of this series. It's supposed to be a proper police drama, not Jonathan Creek.

To be fair, I don’t think the bus actually got stuck. The bus driver engineered the crash to get everyone to the hotel. So it’s entirely possible Thursday and the others could get there.

The rest was hokum though! Very Agatha Christie. And no way would that hotel not have had loads of squatters over the years.

FlatteredFool · 27/09/2021 13:44

Oh I loved it! So spooky. A definite nod to the lovely John Thaw with "its beginning to thaw." I feel quite emotional.

I know lots of people pick holes in stories but it was pure entertainment. I watch tv as escapism and just enjoy the whole without focusing on the parts that don't quite match up. I don't even notice the holes unless they are huge. What's a few cracks between old friends?

MeredithGreyishblue · 27/09/2021 15:06

Yeah, I don't mind it as long as it's the right side of nonsense. It's good entertainment.

I was freaked out by the mask along the gallery though! Eek!

woodhill · 27/09/2021 16:43

I think this series has been excellent. Great viewing

diddl · 27/09/2021 21:44

Bit too creepy for me that one!

So was it the last one ever?

Nr 33 bus, Terminus-all points that way doesn't it?

woodhill · 27/09/2021 21:45

Hope not

Clawdy · 27/09/2021 22:03

Pretty certain I read that there are three more episodes to be shown next year.

Clawdy · 27/09/2021 22:14

Oops, think that may have been "Vera"! But Roger Allam has said he thinks there will be another series, so fingers crossed.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 28/09/2021 06:54

It would be a strange place to end the franchise but I guess what better way than with a really 'off the wall' episode? In a way Endeavour is too clever a series than to wrap up all the loose ends, don't you think?

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/09/2021 09:03

The Guardian article quoted above suggested one more episode but the name Terminus and him acceptung his alcohol issues and getting help was quite final. Also his comment 'It's starting to thaw'.

crosshatching · 28/09/2021 09:07

I've really been disappointed in this series, it used to be all about the crimes and some intriguing clues to the characters lives. Now it's the other way round.
I don't think I realised how much acting heavy lifting was done by Anton Lesser and Roger Allam before this series either. Not that Morse and Strange aren't great characters but I liked that we had to guess at them rather than they just reveal themselves. It's felt a bit soap operaish.

How would you end it though?

I think he has essentially become Morse, which was the point.
