I really want a closure to the Morse episode where the wife killed her seriously ill husband.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0611635/

She was supposed to be an ex fiancee.

thebinkster · 16/09/2021 11:41

Was the hotel in this weeks episode the Coppid Beech in Bracknell

How did it end then?

That they knew she had done it & just ignored it?

Gilmorehill · 16/09/2021 14:16

@diddl

Thank you!

Strange is solid & dependable like her dad!

When Morse was drinking & he said something like "when did you become so censorious?"-I actually thought that that was quite nasty.

I mean on duty & obviously drinking in the afternoon?

Maybe it wasn't so frowned upon in the 70s, but even so!

It reminded me of something that was said about him in what I think was one of the best episodes of Morse.
I think it was called Second Time Around. Christpher Eccleston was in it.

That he's a good detective but a poor policeman.

Have a feeling Fred said it about him at one point-well, perhaps they got it from the Morse episode.

I think Morse was embarrassed he got caught sneaking a drink so that’s why he was rude.
diddl · 16/09/2021 14:29

"I think Morse was embarrassed he got caught sneaking a drink so that’s why he was rude."

Probably-showed a not so nice side to him though I thought.

Also with the work Joan was doing as she said it would have been particularly bad for him to smell of alcohol.

I think it was clever though-he didn't apologise did he nor had he given thought to others it might affect, so I think edging towards JT's Morse!

I thought she killed herself at the end@DancesWithTortoises
Sorry if I’ve just given the game away but I’m assuming you’ve watched it. He threw the ansaphone tape in the river?

Clawdy · 17/09/2021 08:19

For some reason, I thought the fiancee episode ended with Lewis knowing she had done it, but not Morse. So long ago, can't remember. I know it was a sad episode.

That rings a bell about her killing herself.
Tlollj · 17/09/2021 09:23

Yeah they tried to frame the son in law because he was driving when the daughter and children were killed. The dr was in on it as well? Adrian Dunbar if memory serves.

Yup!

David Haig as the son in law, Samantha Bond as his mistress, Joanna David as Morse's ex fiance.

Was the sil driving when the daughter & gc were killed or had the daughter driven off because of his affair?

There was something about Samantha Bond's character having scarred hands due to being burnt.

I think I need to watch this one again!

Tlollj · 17/09/2021 10:40

Yeah you’re right. The daughter was driving in a hurry because she’d just found out.
I wonder if it’s in the i player. Well catch up I mean.

diddl · 18/09/2021 16:46

Looks like you have to have BritBox to get it.

LoganRoy · 18/09/2021 21:41

Did anyone think Joan’s voice had changed? Unless it’s just signalling her growing up and developing as a person?

Yes, that's it. I'd really like to "know" the back story through Endeavour.
diddl · 19/09/2021 16:15

"Yes, that's it. I'd really like to "know" the back story through Endeavour."

Phoebe Nicholls was in as episode as Susan Fallon's mother.

Iirc she came across as thinking that Morse wasn't good enough?

Perhaps the parents encouraged Susan to leave Morse for her tutor?

JaneJeffer · 19/09/2021 18:20

Is it repeated anywhere on ITV or just on the hub?

PeppermintMocha · 19/09/2021 18:24

I thought perhaps the actress playing her had changed! I meant to look it up afterwards to see (I'm not great with faces, but even I thought she seemed so very different and I wasn't even sure it was meant to be Joan!).
LoganRoy · 19/09/2021 18:42

I’m glad it wasn’t just me Peppermint! I thought she seemed different and DH was adamant the Strange actor had been replaced, though I think he had just lost a lot of weight. I think it is the same actress though, so we were both wrong.

Trafficinthecity · 19/09/2021 19:48

It's definitely the same actress playing Joan, I believe - she was absent from the last series as she was on maternity leave. I did wonder if she's wearing a wig though, possibly to get the big 70s hair look.

Yes! Excellent choice.
RiotAtTheRodeo · 19/09/2021 20:54

Joan is definitely being played by the same actress. Strange has lost loads of weight.

JaneJeffer · 19/09/2021 21:40

So many creepy men!

Sisterlyadvice · 19/09/2021 22:05

Thought it was better tonight!

Poor Endeavour, he's so lost and sad, sad to see him turning into Morse.

I got a shock when they mentioned a Carpenters concert! The fashions and hair look nothing like early seventies - much more like mid-sixties. Joan's dress and hair for the ball looked even earlier than that.

At the event with Jim, yes. She came across as a mature woman who would definitely become Mrs Strange and become involved with charity work.
