Anyone else excited about the return of Endeavour tomorrow night??

Really looking forward to it!

@Chardlettuce

I love Endeavour but was quite disappointed with that episode. Perhaps I'd been looking forward to it too much, but it just didn't do it for me. I'm feeling quite deflated Sad Maybe I need to get a life and not be so invested in a TV show 🤷
I agree. Was very run of the mill detective fare. The last series was so extraordinary though, i suppose it would be hard to sustain.
Clawdy · 12/09/2021 22:20

So glad it's back, love all the regular cast, but tonight was a bit confusing with the two murders. When the footballer's murderer was revealed, I could hardly remember who he was!

Sisterlyadvice · 12/09/2021 22:28

@Chardlettuce It wasn't their best, to be fair. It felt a little flat, like it never quite got started.

I had been looking forward to Endeavour too. Nice to see the characters back but l was disappointed with the story. I didn't think it was up to the usual standard. Finding the tape in the dolls house and it just solves that part of it, l thought that weak.
I noticed Shaun bringing in actions that John Thaw did, hands above head etc.
I am wondering what happens to Joan Thursday.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 13/09/2021 12:47

I am wondering what happens to Joan Thursday

I am more worried about her brother as they keep referencing the fact he is in Northern Ireland :(

Tlollj · 13/09/2021 12:50

Do we think Joan and Jim Strange get together? I kind of think we would have known that somehow.

Sisterlyadvice · 13/09/2021 13:06

@Tlollj I've just checked it out online and can't find a first name for Mrs Strange in Morse, although I'm sure he did reference a wife. Maybe it's Joan? We'll have to see how their date goes. 😁

I wanted her and Morse to get together. I know they don’t but still.

BlueGlassOfDoom · 13/09/2021 13:38

Haven’t seen yesterday’s episode yet as was watching Vigil 😉

I’m sure I read that there would only ever be 33 episodes of Endeavour, to match the 33 episodes total for Inspector Morse, in which case we really need to savour these as last night’s was Episode 31!

I have also thought for a while that Joan will end up with Strange - I am sure in the original he always referred to his wife as ‘Mrs Strange’, not by her first name - which leaves that possibility open …

BringMeTea · 13/09/2021 13:38

Oh happy day! Love this show. I feel a bit sad they are in the 70s though. I want them to stay in the 60s forever! Seems to have gone a bit style over substance sadly. Very Mad Men. Nothing will put me off though. Stellar cast.

TheRebelle · 13/09/2021 13:47

Was it Jamie Theakston as the fashion designer?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/09/2021 14:09

Do we think Joan and Jim Strange get together? I kind of think we would have known that somehow. That would explain Morse's strained relationship with Strange in the 80s!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 13/09/2021 14:11

Well this is most discombobulating - Endeavour (usually a Feb show), Silent Witness (usually a Jan show) and the usual September BBC Sunday night drama all running at the same time. I don't think I can keep up!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 13/09/2021 14:12

Next week - Morse carries out an autopsy on a submarine 😂

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 13/09/2021 22:21

I haven’t watched it yet or read all of the comments from last night in detail as I want to watch it fresh. I’ll be back Brew

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2021 08:11

It was an okay episode but nothing special. A pity it's only a three part series too. Do we know Endeavour is going to stop at 33 episodes or is that just conjecture?

There was a Guardian article where it was hinted it might be 34 so the whole lot (Endeavour, Morse, Lewis) would comprise 100 episodes.
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2021 09:06

Oh, that will be a pity if that's the case but can understand why they'd stop at 100.

so glad it wasn't just me, I was very tired, so thought I was just being old.
Gilmorehill · 15/09/2021 18:50

The murder story was boring but the rest of show was great. I think Joan and Strange will definitely get back together- I predicted that a while back.

diddl · 15/09/2021 19:24

I thought it was OK-sort of reflected his apathy & disillusionment.

Also how "out of touch" & seeming Ok with that.

Not sure I like the idea of Joan & Strange.

I thought he was quite Morse-like.

How he thought that looking after the footballer was beneath him & was pretty arrogant? about it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/09/2021 07:39

@diddl I think you're spot on with your observations.

Joan and Strange would be a strange combination but Morse has been so reticent with declaring himself to her that she will probably go for solid and dependable instead.

diddl · 16/09/2021 08:04

Thank you!

Strange is solid & dependable like her dad!

When Morse was drinking & he said something like "when did you become so censorious?"-I actually thought that that was quite nasty.

I mean on duty & obviously drinking in the afternoon?

Maybe it wasn't so frowned upon in the 70s, but even so!

It reminded me of something that was said about him in what I think was one of the best episodes of Morse.
I think it was called Second Time Around. Christpher Eccleston was in it.

That he's a good detective but a poor policeman.

Have a feeling Fred said it about him at one point-well, perhaps they got it from the Morse episode.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2021 08:25

Strange is solid & dependable like her dad! Her Dad gave his and her mum's life savings away to his feckless brother. He was also involved in some dodgy dealing at one point (took a bribe but returned it eventually) and wasn't afraid to use his fists. Not all that solid and dependable.

Well apart from those thingsGrin

I think that's the overall "impression" of him though.
