Changing Rooms tonight. Anyone watching?

I’m so excited to see the return of Changing Rooms tonight on Channel 4. I used to love watching the show in the ‘90s with my mum when I lived at home. I remember doing some very dodgy stencilling in my mum’s front room after being inspired by a makeover!

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will in it so there should be some extreme makeovers. Will anyone else be watching?

The rooms look diabolical. Can’t believe I’ve wasted an hour watching this rubbish.

Nerd alert: there is actually a really interesting episode of the seriously podcast with llb explaining the social history of diy. I chose it to try and fall asleep to but it was annoyingly interesting.

Chains above the bed and hair on the wall? As if women might have been chained up and their hair cut off and then displayed. That's how I saw it as a woman.

Interesting that the men who came up with the idea saw (stereotypically women's, long and blonde) hair as a disembodied accessory, as decoration.

Did anyone notice LLBs use of the sexist term ‘tramp stamp’ for the peacock tattoo? Twice?

It was all so insincere.

Oh I was excited about that but it sounds like it wasn’t worth the effort.

As I recall the original it started with the room being done to the design of the neighbour with the designer just facilitating. But by the end it was the designer designing.

The whole programme was bizarre and sadly formulaic - different walls in different colours, a homemade piece to personalise, some strange feature.

The drag names was forced and unnecessary without being funny.

The final rooms, no thanks! The bedroom was better than LLB’s room, but still not anything I would choose, the ‘hair’ feature was beyond strange, the peacock seat was awful, the whole of LLB’s room was awful, divided up a room that wasn’t big to begin with, the party room is now a room for 2.

But as a programme? Not the best but watchable in August when most of the rest of the offering is repeats!

We missed Handy Andy and his sceptical eye. The swapees had very little input.

It seemed like a piss take now, like they were just seeing what they could get away with.

I’d like to see Changing Rooms: 1 Year On where they go back and find out just how quickly the homeowners rip all that shit out and paint it a normal colour.
