Changing Rooms tonight. Anyone watching?

I’m so excited to see the return of Changing Rooms tonight on Channel 4. I used to love watching the show in the ‘90s with my mum when I lived at home. I remember doing some very dodgy stencilling in my mum’s front room after being inspired by a makeover!

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will in it so there should be some extreme makeovers. Will anyone else be watching?

@Bryonyshcmyony

He's a bit far gone for leather trousers
That's so funny. Why did I watch that ....it was beyond shite
hennybeans · 20/08/2021 21:55

Just watched it. What tacky, inane shite. With a bit of token wokeism and misogyny thrown in.
Why all the drag references, chains on the wall disembodied hair? And a completely uncomfortable chair blocking the middle of the room. Why not have at least one woman designer, or preferably two with taste? Just utter shite. Thank God George Clarke is so prolific!

Housemum · 20/08/2021 22:30

I watched it with the teen DDs, even they thought it was shite (and they watch a lot of trash). I didn't get the feeling that anything was based on the home owners' ideas for their friends. It was taking the worst of the original show and making it a piss take of the original. And one LLB joke of him saying how wonderful he is was enough, doing it several times just seemed desperate. The print of his painting was fab though.

SequinsandStiIettos · 21/08/2021 02:16

Watched it.
Apparently harder for them to revert it back/take it all down now as it used to be because even though there's MDF involved, the rooms are better built.
Pink draggy boudoir - fwiw I am a RuPaul fan, shantay you stay, sashay away etc but that room didn't even give me Ru vibes. Was more daggy than draggy.
I'd have taken out the hair art straight away - awful.
Wouldn't be that happy with the retro layout and inability to move wardrobes as skirting board now cut out but could live with. Stupid clay chain would go.
What would have infuriated me was the back wall with coving/pelmets and TV hung awkwardly.
That is going to be hard to remove.
Flamingo-Penguin lounge
She lost all of her comfy seating - that was what took up most of the room - proper couches.
Replacing it with uncomfy bar stools, an animal patterned chair, a pouffe and a ruddy swing has screwed over her chilling area.
Thought friend was trying to get her cheap heating/proper fireplace as opposed to an accent wall/tv cheat - here's a picture of a flickering fire.
I'd have taken off the ego trip door pic, seen whether the swing could be unclipped and stored, put the painting on ebay and asked for my sofas back and got throws with the ebay money.
Peacock feathers also unlucky iirc
Plus would also have got rid of the sea objet d'art (whichever room the seaweed/anemone was in)
Bring back Linda and Graham.

BrozTito · 21/08/2021 02:27

Have they got rid of that bastard saxaphone?

BlossomValley · 21/08/2021 08:34

Did anyone notice that they painted the outside of the bedroom door dark blue? Confused

longwayoff · 21/08/2021 08:42

Bring back Anne Maurice, the House Doctor, who was stern and hilarious as she strode through the debris of our messy, cluttered, pet ridden, British homes. Enters House. Stops. Wrinkles nose with look of utter distaste "Hmm, you have a dog?" 'Yes, how did you know?'Grin

HollyGrail · 21/08/2021 08:43

They should have LLB against random members of the public having a shot at designing a room (ie people who have emailed in). That could be much more interesting. The problem is that everyone can be a designer in their own home nowadays - the advice and examples are all online. That much has changed since the last series. And many people have great ideas.
Then LLB can advise if necessary and admire if deserved and we'd all learn something. And the programme can choose a diverse set of gender/age/colour to tick their boxes.

longwayoff · 21/08/2021 08:48

Anyone with newly realised love for LLB should try to track down the series he and Mrs LLB made about moving to their new Cotswolds home. It must be about 20 years old now but definitely worth watching. Bound to be streamed somewhere.

SoupDragon · 21/08/2021 08:51

I think programmes like the original version have also helped thisTBH. Although the results were often dodgy, it showed world could be achieved from very little. It certainly inspired me.

Badbadbunny · 21/08/2021 08:56

Well that was a waste of time. I used to love the original series. But the new version is awful. I shan't be bothering again. They really shouldn't be bringing back the old people on a relaunch - it needs to be new. LLB was awful - I don't remember him being so arrogant and full of himself. ARR used to be a good designer, but is an awful presenter.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2021 09:02

Fear not bunny

ARR isn’t on this. Wink

It was only a couple of years ago that I realised they weren't the same person 😂
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2021 09:51

Ach most folk in the public eye are starting to look the same now soup Grin - thanks to fillers I get confused easily.

When folks’ cheeks look like they have 4 jawbreakers rammed in their gub, the only way you can tell some apart is by their voice.

No real criticism there. I’ve no room to talk. My jawline is now a scarf and I have a forehead that looks like someone has knitted it with skin. Sad

SoupDragon · 21/08/2021 09:57

😂😂

longwayoff · 21/08/2021 10:09

Ha sheldonesque, got a long overdue haircut last week and saw my forehead in a brightly lit mirror for the first time in months. It could knock Gordon Ramsay off top spot and my eyebrows seem to have vanished altogether. Bloody hell, what a shock.' Don't cut my fringe!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2021 10:20

I haven’t had my hair cut for over 2 years now. (I hate looking at myself in a mirror)

Covid gave me an excuse. I can no longer dodge it but I’m a little bit embarrassed and ashamed to present my bonce to a professional.

I’m tempted to give the nearly two year old neighbour a pair of safety scissors and let him make merry.

I look like a feral Madam Mim.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2021 10:23

My brows?

Nah mate. They are shocking. Threads will unravel in protest.

I know I’m a disgrace. But it seems futile somehow. My nan used to say ‘ye cannae polish shite’

She was right Blush

longwayoff · 21/08/2021 10:39

We are ageing gracefully. But reluctantly. Nobody told me it would be so achey. Bring on the Voltarol.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/08/2021 10:53

I like a face with a bit of life to it.

I love to see laugh lines and imperfections and a life on a face.

Most of my life is on mine. And that is ok.

And, unsurprisingly, the well lived bit has taken up residence from the belly button down.

Both sides Grin

longwayoff · 21/08/2021 11:45
Grin
EsmaCannonball · 21/08/2021 18:41

It was horribly contrived, like it was being made for the reactions on Gogglebox or social media.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/08/2021 23:12

I recorded this, and am only just getting round to watching it - and to be honest, judging on what I’ve seen so far, I won’t be bothering with the rest of the series - dire colours, stupid designs - wall of hair, ffs, clay chains (which the designers think the chains are chic), and a swinging chair.

They really don’t give a single shiny shite about the rooms they are ruining.

LadyEloise1 · 22/08/2021 08:47

I agree with you @EsmaCannonball that it was horribly contrived like it was being made for the reactions on Gogglebox or social media.
I agree too with @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius that they don't give a shiny sh*te for the rooms they are destroying ( or indeed the owners of said rooms )Sad.

I won't be watching future episodes.

Mrsjamin · 22/08/2021 09:56

All the comments on the dulux Instagram are the same, everyone hates it. I would be crapping my pants if I had anything to do with the sponsorship or production of this programme!
