Changing Rooms tonight. Anyone watching?

I’m so excited to see the return of Changing Rooms tonight on Channel 4. I used to love watching the show in the ‘90s with my mum when I lived at home. I remember doing some very dodgy stencilling in my mum’s front room after being inspired by a makeover!

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen will in it so there should be some extreme makeovers. Will anyone else be watching?

He was incandescent with rage about the placement of someone else's speakers on a TV show? They can be moved to where they need to be. In fairness to the production team, the speakers were probably put in the room right before the reveal so probably not wired up, etc.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/09/2021 07:41

Yes, it would be easy to move the speakers themselves. I agree about the TV but that could also be moved. They obviously didn't realise how hot a stove like that gets.

EastWestWhosBest · 16/09/2021 21:58

Yes the speakers can be moved but moving the speakers and the tv would mean moving all the furniture in the room and then rendering the design pointless.

I might have over egged how annoyed he was.

If they don’t know that fire is hot I question how they get through life.

Villa Villainess
I know you have to be careful with copyright infringement but none of that screamed marvel comics or poison ivy to me. I like what Lawrence did - I liked the rainbow (although if it was a nod to LGBT it wasn#t necessary). The office bit was lovely and still intact thank God. Personally liked the lighting and the wardrobe idea.
But in the mural and the mdf swirling, any idea of villainess was lost completely. Would have been far better and he could have done this easily, to actually put some ivy in green into the design. Instead of his mug in the frame, a wedding picture of them would have made far more sense; especially if one was in costume as Poison Ivy: it would have brought the theme together.
Sophie liked it. Partner put a brave face on for her wife.

Acid House
I'd want my comfy sofas back and put throws on them. It was better than usual but that said, haven't seen that greeny-yellow in person. I know it was cottagecore/cottageyawn/mumblezzz but that does not tie in with acid house for me as a fusion and I don't like it so the art can come down. I also agree that heat rising up to the telly is stupid even though I know many do have TVs over mantelpieces. Hey ho.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 18/09/2021 20:04

Another thumbs down from me. The bedroom was OK but I really disliked the MDF swirly things. The speaker room was awful, horrible colours, the cottage-core vibe didn't come through at all well and my DH was getting twitchy about the speaker placement too.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 19/09/2021 11:52

And apparently it's been axed after losing a third of the viewers over the course of the series. I must admit LLB grew on me as the shows went on but I will hopefully never watching anything presented by Anna or featuring Bodgit and Whatsit again.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2021 13:08

Oh no. I was loving seeing LLB back on the tv again.

Just give him his own show liaising directly with his ‘clients’ and I’m there.

Smudgeit and smear have not enchanted me at all. The very fact that everyone thought they’d painted a dirty protest rather than an eye catching design feature said it all.

Too many tick boxes in play I fear.

We don’t need wackiness. We don’t need to pick our jaws up off the parquet.

We need ideas. Tips. ‘How to’ advice. How to style a room. Rooms you can actually live in with a bit of flair to them.

Preferably with LLB.

Thank you.

rosegoldwatcher · 19/09/2021 14:27

These days we don't really need programs to show us how to decorate a room. Pinterest, YouTube etc do a much better job than THEY have managed. It was very different back in Changing Rooms' heyday in the 80s.

Now it's all about how to modify your house as a whole in order not to have to move. Hence the popularity of Love It or List It and so forth.

I do like LLB though.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2021 14:58

Well that’s me told then…

I just want to sit in front of the tv with someone I know of, having an hour or so of fluff.

Yes youtube is useful but unless I was after a specific job, I’d be unlikely to go there.

LLB at his best, jazzing up a room or two with some useful tips is fine with me 🤷‍♀️

rosegoldwatcher · 19/09/2021 16:09

@SheldonesqueTheBstard - I agree - I would watch that too. But there really wasn't any proper liaising on this lot of CH was there?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2021 16:22

No - there wasn’t really.

Although I like the surprise element, there was no real discussion or request. Certainly not this time round.

I used to like it old style. LLB was always a wee bit flamboyant. Fine.
But there was sometimes a contrast. Someone going gloriously understated. Using beige Shock

The two guys this time just seemed to be out to shock and I think that is where it failed.

If you try to out Bowen LLB, you are going to shoot for the moon and land belly down in the poster paints.

rosegoldwatcher · 19/09/2021 16:23

Meant to add -

It would have been so much more meaty if they had
a) chosen an actual grown up to compete with LLB (like Sophie Robinson)
b) been upfront about the budgets (like they used to)
c) had a presenter whose presence didn't immediately bring to mind naked genitalia!

I’m with you. YouTube and Pinterest is fine but rather skewed to American houses which is fine but a lot of stuff won’t work over here and our taste is different.

I’d like to watch half a hour of may be a couple of households with a designer discussing the problems they have with a certain room and then fixing it.

The award winning duo have won an award from Pinterest

The award winning duo have won an award from Pinterest
In that case I take back my previous Pinterest recommendation!
LadyEloise1 · 19/09/2021 20:24

I've stopped watching because of the award winning duo.

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 22/09/2021 20:34

I'm watching for entertainment value . Not a chance in hell I would let them loose in my house . Roller blind to hide the TV ...WTF !

Mooserp · 22/09/2021 20:46

LLB's Big Breakfast comment was spot on

Meredusoleil · 22/09/2021 20:46

I actually liked the colours of the duo designers. But not how they are using them!

LLB's room is way too dark for my liking. I really liked the original room and feel sorry for the bloke Jamie. He never should have agreed to do this imho!

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/09/2021 20:52

Even the "designers" seem surprised she likes it!

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 22/09/2021 20:54

The bedroom is horrendous. The flooring dear God!

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/09/2021 20:56

That bedroom looks more like a nursery school than anything else.
