I saw the first series (which was good and guessed who killed his wife) but no need to watch it before this one as different stories

A teacher Sally was accused of having an affair and killing a student schoolboy 16yr Matty Taylor

Sally always said she was innocent but went to prison for 5yrs

Now she is out and trying to restart her life , but her husband Sam filed for divorce and has a new partner and getting married

Can only assume new evidence comes to light hence her freedom, but the real killer still needs to be found ........

I really liked the first series so hope this will be good

I've only just caught up on the first 3 as I found watching it straight after the pact (daft) meant I didn't concentrate.

I dont think it is great, but because so much else has been really bad am quite enjoying it. And think they have spread enough red herrings about nearly everybody that I am half expecting a character we have never heard of to be the culprit.

Half expecting to be disappointed with the ending tonight.

Also, lovely as the countryside and lakes are, it seems every second crime drama is all dark brooking fir trees. Somewhere new next time please!

Clawdy · 20/05/2021 19:26

But Keswick looks lovely, as always. Wish I was there.

Clawdy · 20/05/2021 19:27

But maybe not at that school! Grin

Well I got the right person just not why he did it. I reckon that makes me practically a dectective.

RJnomore1 · 20/05/2021 22:10

DH guesses the right person, I guessed he had been seeing someone else, we just didn’t put it all together until the end!

youngestisapsycho · 20/05/2021 22:22

How was Sally ever found guilty of his murder.... there can’t have been any evidence against her?!

jay55 · 20/05/2021 22:37

They certainly didn't bother to look too deeply. And I suppose the jury decided pervert, and that was that.
LeilaLiesLow · 20/05/2021 22:46

well, it was all a bit realistic, wasn't it?

It's actually very easy as a writer to concoct numerous red herrings and keep the audience guessing. But looking at it as a whole, it wasn't that great.

Sam was a gay man in the closet, and not only did he hide it from Sally, he went on to another hetero relationship with Karen even having rumpy pumpy on the stairs with her. (No doubt to make us think he was a red blooded male.)

He was always too good to be true.

With hindsight, he said to Bethany it was possible to love two people in different ways. That was the clue. we thought he meant her Mum and Sally but of course he meant Matty and Sally.

I never warmed to Sally . she lacked energy and had a hangdog face, even when she smiled. maybe anyone would after 5 years inside, but I just found her wishy washy.

And the pizza date with PC Plod- a bit too neatly wrapped up there. Maybe there is a sequel planned where we find out what his own story is.

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 23:18

Well that was all a bit Broadchurch with the husband falling in love with and killing a boy.

I was very surprised that Sally didn't hit/push Sam out the window for being a f*cking coward and letting her rot in jail for 5 years. And looked like he was going to do the same to Karen to save his own skin.

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 23:22

@youngestisapsycho although it appears no forensic evidence they did have Anna's damning testimony which had a big sway in convicting Sally. Although that in itself is a bit ridiculous that they would take the word of an obsessive school girl.

RightOnTheEdge · 20/05/2021 23:42

They also found Sally's dna under his finger nails from when he attacked her and ran off when she was trying to ask him what was bothering him.

Italiangreyhound · 20/05/2021 23:44

I want PC Plod and Sally to have a happy ending. A cameo role in Innocent 3.

JemimaTab · 21/05/2021 05:10

I was a bit underwhelmed by the ending. The narrative didn’t seem to explore why Sam had a relationship with such a young boy (OK so not illegal but very dodgy). Or the back story for Karen and Bethany. And Sally just wasn’t sympathetic unfortunately, I found her very unlikeable. Constantly sticking your bottom lip out like a sulking toddler does not equal meaningful acting.

Newgirls · 21/05/2021 07:53

I liked the sally casting. You suspect she’s perhaps guilty of something but at the end realise she’s been a great teacher/kind all along. No good deed goes unpunished.

Matty was meant to be a one in a million, popular, charismatic actor. Husband was well cast for looking so sweet and likeable...

Clawdy · 21/05/2021 08:17

Slightly disappointing end, as always. Still can't see why a closet gay guy would go for a second relationship with a woman, that wasn't fully explained. Surely he would have made a new start and perhaps moved away to begin life as he wanted it.

butterpuffed · 21/05/2021 08:26

I was underwhelmed by the ending too. A shame the writer didn't think up a more interesting plot twist. Perhaps they were so invested in giving us red herrings that they didn't think of how they were going to finish it until the last minute !

LeilaLiesLow · 21/05/2021 09:15

Totally unbelievable that Sam would start a new relationship with Karen, after Sally went to prison. He didn't need to, in order to pretend to his father he was straight. He could have lived a single life. I'd have been more convinced if he'd admitted to being bi, not gay.

I'm annoyed I was so invested in it because all the writer did was make every character (except Sam) look guilty. I guess we got a glimpse of Sam's anger/violent side when he grabbed his probation client by the neck.

Great acting though. I kept thinking the actor who plays Sam looked like a young D H Lawrence.

Italiangreyhound · 21/05/2021 09:36

Very silly ending. If he was in a relationship with a 16 year old lad why would he next to for a 50 year old woman!

Felt sorry for the copper.

Why was he bullying Bethany?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/05/2021 10:10

Sure I recall them saying that the writer behind Unforgotten had written this drama? It wasn't up to their usual standard.

There's been overkill on such thrillers. They're running out of good 'twist' plotlines.

The thriller I've watched in recent year which stood out and which I still recall and rated was RELLIK because it totally upended the genre.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2021 10:53

I said it was too obvious to be hubby ......,,,.

But the last 15m was good. We thought was karen. Then beth. Then turns out was sam

Over a gay fling

Kept us guessing so means was good imo

But I’ve always said I’m easily pleased by tv drama

excelledyourself · 21/05/2021 11:01

I really started to think it was Sam when he was pushing Karen to go to the police. But I thought if he did it, it was because he believed Sally had been having an affair

AnyFucker · 21/05/2021 11:16

Why did Bethany say she killed Matty ? Hmm

SueSaid · 21/05/2021 11:18

I thought is was ok as far as these things go, the meeting in the staff room with the door open rather unprofessional. The troubled daughter admitting to it seemed a bit random.

As an aside I'm always surprised when gay men have active sex lives with their female partners, surely if you are gay you find male bodies arousing not female bodies.

Cocolapew · 21/05/2021 11:37

@AnyFucker

Why did Bethany say she killed Matty ? Hmm
I think she thought her mum had done it and was taking the blame for her
