I saw the first series (which was good and guessed who killed his wife) but no need to watch it before this one as different stories

A teacher Sally was accused of having an affair and killing a student schoolboy 16yr Matty Taylor

Sally always said she was innocent but went to prison for 5yrs

Now she is out and trying to restart her life , but her husband Sam filed for divorce and has a new partner and getting married

Can only assume new evidence comes to light hence her freedom, but the real killer still needs to be found ........

I really liked the first series so hope this will be good

In fairness, the police aren’t being portrayed very well either.

I missed quite a bit last night, am going to catch-up now. What was Anna’s motivation for lying?

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 06:52

Yes, it's not uncommon to have 19 year olds in sixth form, particularly if they repeat a year for whatever reason.

She used to date Matty and was lonely and jealous.
Italiangreyhound · 20/05/2021 08:41

What was Anna’s motivation for lying?

She genuinely believed they were having an affair. She thought if she lied the teacher would be sacked and the affair would end.

lavenderandwisteria · 20/05/2021 08:47

Thanks. Gosh, a bit of a weak reason, though. I mean,I understand as a teenager doing something stupid like that but continuing it five years later ...

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 09:33

I've got an feeling Sally will win Sam back, be all loved up and happy, then realise it was actually him who killed Matty. Although for the life of me can't think what his motive would be. Possibly Matty wasn't the innocent school boy everyone thinks, hints last night he had a nasty streak. Maybe he was friends with one of Sam's probationers??

LeilaLiesLow · 20/05/2021 11:02

My take on it is...

Sam and one of his clients (Sam's a probation officer, yes?) are in it together.

His client did the deed, I think. But Sam maybe asked him to as Karen did something unprofessional re Matty, (pastoral care issues) and they need to shut him up.
Sam does this to protect his relationship with Karen. (Which implies he was never as committed to Sally as he makes out.)

I am still not convinced that sally is 100% innocent. I don't like her behaviour and the unnecessary potential 'love stuff' with the copper, which is very unprofessional of him to hit on her.

SueSaid · 20/05/2021 11:11

I'm not keen on the lead detective, his voice annoys me for some reason and wtf was he doing asking her is she fancied pizza sometime Confused.

lavenderandwisteria · 20/05/2021 11:15

I should really sympathise with sally bur I just don’t.

SueSaid · 20/05/2021 11:17

'should really sympathise with sally bur I just don’t.'

Yes none of them are likeable are they. Apart from a couple of the police officers and Matty's poor dm.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/05/2021 11:18

I think his mum did it. Her comment in the 1st episode about not telling the police anything again seemed off. Not telling the police about Matty's parentage would have made more sense if Matty and his biological father hadn't known so perhaps she was meant something else. Given how awful he supposedly was with the bullying, it's not a stretch to think his anger at being abandoned by his dad(s) could have bubbled over at her.

After Karen left, she could have gone looking for him and found him drinking. A argument ensues, gets physical and she stabbed him with the bottle.

Sam seems too obviously set up at this point. Based on the introduction to him in episode 1, much more likely he was sleeping with a service user and just got Aaron to lie. Probably suited both of them as Aaron might have broken the terms of his licence. Lie for your probation officer or go back to jail could make option 1 seem tempting.

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 12:26

Sam wasn't with Karen when Matty was murdered, he was still married to Sally. So he wouldn't be protecting Karen unless he was having an affair with Karen and wanted Sally out the way.

Which would then make him a lying bastard as well as a killer as so far we've been led to believe he's a half decent guy.

LeilaLiesLow · 20/05/2021 13:04

Not convinced that Sally miscarried either. She may have made it up to get Sam to come back to her.

I think she is not as innocent as she seems.

I think we have been set up from the start to think his mum or his non-bio dad did it and it seems a bit too obvious.

She may have, but how could she watch an innocent woman go to jail?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 20/05/2021 13:26

She may have, but how could she watch an innocent woman go to jail?

That applies to the killer regardless though? Maybe she thought she wasn't innocent due to the pastoral care element. Could have blamed her for pushing him into attempting a relationship with his dad for example.

I was thinking of it as a Agatha Christie type denouement where the current suspects (Karen, Beth, Sam) are exonerated at the final curtain.

PrincessScarlett · 20/05/2021 13:28

So, if we go down the route that Sally is actually guilty after all, Matty could have found out Sam and Karen were having an affair as Karen was his social worker. That was why Karen was looking for him the day he died, to try and buy his silence. He told Sally who lashed out and killed him. Sally is now out for revenge and wants to destroy Sam and Karen's relationship.

The rest is all red herrings.

Cocolapew · 20/05/2021 14:15

I think Sam did it but I'm not sure why. I think Matty wasn't as good as he was being made out as well. Maybe he had dirt on Sam and his parolees or Sam did believe Matty and Sally were having an affair.
I don't think Sally is totally innocent either, Im leaning towards she was having a thing with Matty.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/05/2021 14:34

I reckon it's Karen's DD.

LeilaLiesLows · 20/05/2021 16:02

The blurb for tonight's episode in The Times say that Bethany makes a discover which forces a confession. And DC 'Come for a Pizza with me' is still hunting for clues.

So take your pick

Sally (after all)
Karen
Sam
Matty's Mum
The probationer
A N Other who we have not seen yet :)

jay55 · 20/05/2021 17:48

My school didn't have a sixth form so I don't have the right frame of reference. But the intimidation and pushing in the corridor level, bullying seems really weird for a 19 year old.

And how did Karen, have the time to be a social worker, on the governors, stalk sam and raise a teenager?

ChequerBoard · 20/05/2021 17:51

I'm working in the theory that as the first lead protagonist in Innocent series one was indeed innocent, it is highly unlikely that Sally, is also innocent.

My moneys on Karen's daughter, Bethany.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/05/2021 18:04

Finally seen last nights. - working tonight so will avoid thread from 9pm

Beth was bullied tho agree seems weird still
There 5/6yrs later

Red herring. Real dad confessed

I'm going for Sam. Or Matty's dad, not the real dad. Anyone notice the building foreman' s note to the police was signed "Kelsey "? And was played by Ian Kelsey, who was in Corrie and Emmerdale. They must have thought it wasn't worth making up a name!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/05/2021 18:56
