Loki (Disney+ starting June 11): MCU fans assemble!

Loki starts on Disney+ on June 11!

I know it’s a way away but I thought I’d start a thread for pre-amble pondering discussion seeing as Falcon and the Winter Soldier is over now and we no longer have a weekly MCU fix for a while!

Sometimes I’m wary of trailers, I don’t like to know too many details in advance, but this is good, it doesn’t spoil anything just nicely teases the theme and tone, and looks to be some good chemistry between Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson.

I really like how WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and now Loki are all so different in feel.

Oh and if you’re not a MCU addict want to catch up with the story so far, then this article lists which movies to watch beforehand (nine of them!!!) but really, you could just watch two - the first Thor and Avengers movies, and then jump to Loki from there and you’d be in the same place as our protagonist. It’d be really interesting to hear that perspective actually!

Not watched yet will do on tomorrow. Just love a thread. I hope it's not as emosh as Wanda 😂

SquatBetty · 10/06/2021 14:08

This is going to sound really shallow and probably very dumb but I don't understand why Loki now looks so much older than Avengers Loki?

He's now Dad-Loki! (Still would though)

Obviously I realise Hiddles is 10 years older but you'd have thought that he'd have been de-aged on screen a little bit to match how Avengers Loki looked? Or maybe it's the stress of using the Tesseract again?

LemonViolet · 10/06/2021 14:24

Anyone else see the similarities in a way with the early stages of Thor's 'journey' (for want of a better word) in Ragnarok? Loss of Mjolnir/powers don't work in TVA, disorientation etc with arrival on Sakaar/TVA right down to person being killed in front of them. Hopefully this means we'll see a more powerful Loki as he's always been very weak magically in the MCU.
Good call!

One theory I’ve just heard about Agents of Shield continuity - do you think they’ve included Loki killing Coulson as a nod there - perhaps the AoS we know takes place in a divergent timeline?

I’m late to the party but that was a fantastic start. I just love Loki

@LemonViolet I know what you mean about the very quick redemption but I feel that Loki realising he isn’t the almighty powerful being he thinks he is would bring him crashing down to earth pretty quickly.

I love that he watched his ‘future’ moments. Watching Odin talking to them choked me up again. That’s one of my favourite scenes.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 10/06/2021 22:01

Enjoyed it, but am I the only one who found it very, very reminiscent of Umbrella Academy?

LemonViolet · 10/06/2021 22:24

Yes, a mashup of Umbrella Academy & The Good Place set in MCU. I guess kinda unavoidable given the subject matter. In terms of source material, the TVA existed in Marvel comics decades before Umbrella Academy was published.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 10/06/2021 22:43

Yes, I was feeling the Good Place elements too, especially with the judge. I suppose I'd have to be familiar with the comics to properly judge which was referencing which, as the production design and slightly whimsical tone seemed similar too.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 11/06/2021 00:19

Loved it, I assume they’re going for the comic ‘Loki: Agent of Asgard’ vibes.
I laughed very hard at “Do a lot of people not know if they’re robots?” and “What if I was a robot and I didn’t know it?”

MyFloorIsLava · 11/06/2021 10:26

Between the "do a lot of people not know they're robots?" and the clips of Coulson being killed, I had a lot of yearnings for AoS. I definitely think it must exist in another timeline.

RedPillowcase · 11/06/2021 13:05

The best bit was the cat. Grin

I loved it all. Tom Hiddleston is a great actor and has always given Loki depth. I hadn't watched any trailers or read anything at all (I like going in with no expectations) so was surprised by Owen Wilson. Had a minute thinking Oh No, he's nor right for Mavel but was quickly proven wrong and really liked him and Loki together.

Mrsjayy · 11/06/2021 15:44

Ooo just watched it I like it love all the Timeline thing.

MyFloorIsLava · 11/06/2021 19:44

@RedPillowcase I try to avoid trailers as much as possible too. I like being completely surprised Smile

But was it a cat or a flerken? Grin

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 12/06/2021 00:52

Flerken all the way Grin

LemonViolet · 12/06/2021 06:21

Oh flerken for sure!!!

Was Loki’s spooked reaction to the flerken/cat or the clerk? The camera angles don’t make it that clear. Reminds me of Talos’ reaction to Maria Rambeau’s cat in Captain Marvel Grin

“Do a lot of people not know they’re robots?!?” was great. His delivery is just spot on isn’t it. “I’m not a robot, so I’ll be fine....”

Just checking in because I didn’t manage to watch until last night! Absolutely bloody loved it, neither WV or FATWS hooked me on the first Ep, but this did.

The DB Cooper thing was inspired and I love that Thor and Heimdall were involved too! Loki realising that he wasn’t that much of a God was sobering. Owen Wilson was a great choice and not as smarmy as I was expecting.

Can’t bloody wait for next week.

exLtEveDallas · 12/06/2021 06:51

Oh and yes, Flerkin Grin

exLtEveDallas · 12/06/2021 06:52

Oh and did anyone spot the Skrull?

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 12/06/2021 07:39

Is it me or has Owen Wilson's nose got even more farked over time?

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was great (and I still can't see him on screen without muttering "He's so hot right now") but I genuinely wondered if he was wearing a prosthetic to make his nose look more broken.

Mrsjayy · 12/06/2021 10:10

I noticed his nose I wonder if he usually gets filmed from different angles or something.

LemonViolet · 12/06/2021 12:06

Skrull in a tracksuit!!! One of the refugees from Capt Marvel?

I commented on Owen Wilson’s nose as well. DP went into patronising mode “Owen Wilson is well know for his nose” yes I know that you twat, but thankyou MN for agreeing with me it was looking extra skwonky during that episode!

OP posts:
BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 12/06/2021 13:02

I am also relieved to know it wasn't just me.

Mrsjayy · 12/06/2021 13:42

Well done your DH for mansplaining Owen Wilson's nose Grin.

LemonViolet · 12/06/2021 15:33

Ah, he’s an equal opportunities patronising twat when it comes to anything about movies/comics/etc etc. I call him names for it.

I was pausing it and bringing up pictures of him in other movies because I was sure his nose didn’t have a big chunk out of it haha.
Figmentofimagination · 13/06/2021 21:16

I was wondering the same thing about his nose. Looks even more crooked than usual. I mentioned it to DH when we watched it.
