Loki (Disney+ starting June 11): MCU fans assemble!

Loki starts on Disney+ on June 11!

I know it’s a way away but I thought I’d start a thread for pre-amble pondering discussion seeing as Falcon and the Winter Soldier is over now and we no longer have a weekly MCU fix for a while!

Sometimes I’m wary of trailers, I don’t like to know too many details in advance, but this is good, it doesn’t spoil anything just nicely teases the theme and tone, and looks to be some good chemistry between Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson.

I really like how WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and now Loki are all so different in feel.

Oh and if you’re not a MCU addict want to catch up with the story so far, then this article lists which movies to watch beforehand (nine of them!!!) but really, you could just watch two - the first Thor and Avengers movies, and then jump to Loki from there and you’d be in the same place as our protagonist. It’d be really interesting to hear that perspective actually!

It's weird. Tom as Tom, like in that cbeebies promo, does absolutely nothing for me. Give him a greasy black wig and green leather and I'm all in!

I agree he looks a bit of a dork in that CBeebies photo. And I'm not a fan of the beard (or beards in general), but he's very lovely in most of the interviews I've seen. Ridiculously over-enthusiastic and a bit of a show-off, but in a good way Grin. Attractiveness-wise I think he's at his best in The Night Manager though, even more than as greasy Loki Grin.

PepeSilviaDoesNotExist · 18/06/2021 07:08

Agreed tom as Loki is what made me fancy him.

I enjoyed ep 2 but I’m hoping it picks up the pace soon.

ToastieSnowy · 18/06/2021 07:35

I’ve gone the other way, I’m still have an enormous soft spot for Loki but having watching Tom in his recent interviews frankly you can all have Loki, I think Tom is much more interesting. Blush

I think he's calmed down a lot on the show-offing front as he's got older. Is he doing any UK TV chat shows do we know while he's promoting Loki? Be interesting to see if he's just going to do a straight interview or whether his cringetastic penchant for random dancing/yodelling/impersonations will reveal itself once more....

ToastieSnowy · 18/06/2021 08:50

He’s done a awful lot of small zoom interviews. Wonder if he’ll go on One show or Graham Norton show again?

I like him, but I prefer Loki. It's the dark hair. And the leather.
ToastieSnowy · 18/06/2021 11:57

Grolliffe. Hmm I do see what you’re saying Grin

I'm sort of the same with Chris Evans (not the ginger one). He's ok as himself. As Cap? With that hair & arse? Gods, yes!

Prefer Bucky. Dark hair and leather again... Preferred him with the longer hair though.

And being in need of a good hug, as is Loki. Definitely a theme there...

Sebastian Stan doesn't do much for me though.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/06/2021 21:41

Right. Loving the old school vibe of the sets.

I'm not adverse to a good old temporal paradox but surely if they obliterated our Loki from the past instead of putting him back where he came from then the whole story line of Avengers/Ragnorok etc wouldn't happen (although technically it has happened and on a time loop that doesn't necessarily start and end in a normal order) They would also have to wipe his memory too though.

So this is what will be leading us to the multiverse of madness. Universe in timeline chaos.

I thought he put the time stone back in the drawer and just held the teseract when he stood up but as it's loki it wouldn't surprise me if he took a few of each!

Owen Wilson's nose looking more squiffy might just be an age thing? Or not having long hair to distract from his face?

I'm wondering which side Owen's character will end up on. Seems like he already has issues with the whole controlling set up. Maybe just boredom. (Maybe I've just watched too many things where the person investigating the serial killer becomes one...)

My brain got distracted at the variant reveal and when the hood came down all I saw was Jodie Whittaker (instead of the actual actress playing the role). For a split second I was expecting her to pull a daft face and ask where her 'fam' was.

If someone deviates from what they're supposed to do it creates a branch from the sacred timeline. The TVA arrest the culprit and then "prune" the branch so that it never happened.

So you can't change what is meant to happen. Though this time travel rule could wellbe artificially imposed by the Time Keepers as part of their plan to eliminate chaos. With Loki(s) involved and the implications of the end of WandaVision, it appears chaos has other ideas...

I really hope she's enchantress and not female Loki, for me that would be a huge let down

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/06/2021 10:52

His poor salad..liking it so far. Helps characters are likeable! Winter Soilder..liked Zemo the rest..less so

Soubriquet · 23/06/2021 10:57

New episode!!

Currently watching. I wonder why Loki is suddenly female though

GrolliffetheDragon · 23/06/2021 15:30

Interesting.

Mrsjayy · 23/06/2021 20:44

We just watched last week's it's a bit "wordy " Loki monologuing had me losing interest. Then got back into it. I hope it pick s up.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 23/06/2021 23:37

I could watch Loki strut his gorgeous stuff all the live long day, but my word I do not understand the storyline at all.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 24/06/2021 01:15

Anyone else feel that that was a waste of an entire episode? Seriously could've fit that waffle into 15 minutes and still non the wiser other than that the timekeepers are all variants.

Maybe it's because they're both british, but that felt more like an episode of dr who than something from the Marvel franchise. Even the special effects were cheap.

Soubriquet · 24/06/2021 05:21

Yes

I did like Sylvie though

LemonViolet · 24/06/2021 07:21

I guess with ep3 they were going for setting up the camaraderie between Loki and Sylvie? But agree nothing much really happened, we didn’t really learn that much about Sylvie and her story/purpose, and just the information that the TVA staff are reprogrammed variants. Ep2 was wordy, yes! Lots of “let’s describe this aspect of time travel philosophy in detail to demonstrate how this is supposed to work to the audience at home”.

Tom Hiddleston and Loki really is the saving of it all, quite right too. I missed Mobius this episode though.

The plot device of the temp pad running out of battery just seems a little implausible. The TVA has technology to control time, FFS, but their agents could conceivably be stranded due to forgetting a charging cable? Really? Or is Sylvie just stringing Loki along for some reason?

Does feel like distraction. But then so did his drunk singing act/oops I broke the machine.

Yes, has she enchanted him but he knows and is sabotaging? Has he enchanted her - I know he asked how she did it, but he was able to make Odin forget who he was and make Valkyrie relive traumatic memories so is he lying about not knowing how to do it as we know he can magically mess with people's minds.

(Alternatively, is he just trying to disrupt the timeline enough to alert the TVA to where they are? Difficult if the whole place is about to be annihilated, so seems the less likely option.)

Anyway, enjoying it hugely. But it reminds me slightly of Moffat era Doctor Who at this point which I also mostly enjoyed hugely.

MyFloorIsLava · 24/06/2021 10:02

I enjoyed that even though nothing happened really. TH and SdM are very charismatic and droll. Still I thought there would be more time travelling hijinks so this programme isn't what I expected. 3 long episodes in and not much going on.
