I was left feeling that there’s way way more to this story than we’ll ever know as viewers.

MyHouse2011 · 08/04/2021 07:47

Do you think they maybe showed it in the hope that people will come forward to tell the police where this man has actually been?

As PPs have said, it’s hard to fathom how he or his camp weren’t spotted for 5 years and how well he looked as a rough sleeper.

Anne1958 · 08/04/2021 09:22

Honestly, I’ve absolutely no idea as to why they showed it and all the more so that it was a very poor and confusing example of human trafficking.

I had a cry for him.
What a miserable existence, he seemed as though he'd gone completely into survival mode, like someone displaced by war.
I'm no medic but even I was confident his head wasn't right.

It's perverse, on one hand we are gladly throwing statues in the sink for past slavery association while we walk by, maybe even use, car washes i.e. that are quite blatantly using slave labour.
Not to mention the added horror of you are female.
Poor fella.

StephenBelafonte · 08/04/2021 19:15

He may well have been charging his phone in asda cafe. Also, he probably stole food and clothes from there. I know he said he scrounged for them in bins but he would hardly likely have told the police that. He looked utterly utterly traumatised though, i'll say that.

margotleadbeter · 08/04/2021 22:21

There are lots of questions and gaps but Ricardis is a victim and will have had to give his consent for this to be shown. I imagine after 5 years of living like that he would have been incredibly resourceful or he wouldn't have survived. He could have become very skilled at learning when food was being dumped by the supermarket and he could have easily had someone turning a blind eye to him using the toilets to keep clean and charge the phone there if he just kept himself to himself. He may not have wanted to get someone else into trouble or admit he may have stolen to survive.
I don't think the police would be keen to have this story on national tv if it didn't add up. We just know what the police want us to know. Also as there is an arrest warrant out for the suspect there would need to be caution on what was on tv pre any trial.
A PP mentioned how he escaped and didn't get infections in his wounds. People under real threat of losing their lives can find epic strength sometimes in a bid to survive. His wounds may have healed but been slow to do so. If he was fastidious about keeping clean he may have taken good care of them and prevented serious infection. I didn't notice scaring to his head but he had scars to his upper right lip and quite a substantial one to the left side of his mouth. Small scalp wounds can bleed profusely so the injuries may not have been that deep but the amount of blood would be alarming to witnesses. Before modern medicine people did survive serious injuries (clearly not as often as now) and even fractured skulls can heal without treatment. I think he was very lucky regarding his injuries. He looked like a traumatised man to me. The way he stared at the poster of himself and his hands trembled was moving. Regarding the Facebook page, maybe he reached a point where he thought 'come and find me if you have to'. Isolation can do strange things to people.

This is exactly how I felt. So many unanswered questions. I really hope they arrest the guy who assaulted him but sounds like he has gone way off the radar.
ElasticFirecracker · 09/04/2021 17:12

Queenie6655 · 12/04/2021 21:56

@CovidCorvid

Those girls were so brave. But I'm so cross that a video one of them made of her twerking could possibly still be viewed as undermining a case. This needs to stop!
Could someone please explain this to me

Did they mean she was leading him on? May have caused him to do this?
Awful !!

What a little scumbag

Toddlerteaplease · 12/04/2021 22:00

I can’t believe she only got 16 months! After making his life a misery for 10 years and ultimately giving him the injuries that led to his death. That poor guy

No justice for Paul.

Ellenthegenerous · 12/04/2021 22:02

16 months is an absolute disgrace. Of course she will reoffend.

ParkheadParadise · 12/04/2021 22:03

I knew she was going to get away with that.
The Justice system in this country is a fucking joke.
RIP Paul.
