Thurs at 9 Richard returns
Can we figure out how they are going to pull this off given that he had an ice pick in his chest when we last saw himGrin
My guess. It was stated and he has been undercover for the last 3/4 years or however long it has been

@terrywynne

Did we know Madeleine and Ruby were leaving at the end of the last series? I hate when characters disappear off screen and it has to be awkwardly squeezed into dialogue to let us know when the characters would be well aware.

I quite enjoyed the episode but the people of St Marie must be wondering how many bumbling, social awkward British detectives there are for them to be repeatedly lumbered with them!

Yes to this, just for once couldn’t we have a suave and sophisticated British gent that all the women swoon over, Idris Elba please!
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/01/2021 02:23

I LOVE it. So pleased it's back.

My memory is shocking, so I can't remember half of what you're all talking about! However it's not SO bad that I can't remember who did most of them which is annoying as I'd like to start at series 1 again without knowing.

Have to say, I did watch most of them again about 2years ago with the then 13 yo - she loved it too!!

It's weird watching it when it's actually on & having to wait until next week. It's like going back in time! .

Deathinparadiseno1fan · 12/01/2021 09:05

I read in a magazine that he is coming back as a cameo.

It would have been amusing to see Dwayne's reaction if Idris Elba had turned up and attracted all the attention of the local women

grandmasterstitch · 13/01/2021 22:38

I'm hoping Dwayne comes back as the officer

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/01/2021 10:10

SPOILERS!

I thought last night's was a bit predictable (I guessed a lot of it early on) . And the murderer could definitely have got away with it — all he'd have had to do was wash the arsenic off and put the glasses back somewhere. And I'm still not quite sure what his motivation was to steal the coins; he was starting a six-figure job in a couple of months!

I was feeling picky from the beginning though — UCL doesn't have "assistant professors" (that's an American term), and I think the PhD student would have called him his supervisor, not mentor. And chances are that Roger had picked him directly for the PhD, so he had only himself to blame if he didn't think he was good enough!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/01/2021 10:11

I'm just sore because I don't think JP is as good-looking with his new hairstyle. Grin

I agree, it doesn't suit him at all.
theliverpoolone · 15/01/2021 13:35

I'm disappointed, I've not enjoyed these two episodes as much as previous series (which dd and I watched at least twice in lockdown 1!). My attention wandered last night so I've no idea why the murderer murdered, and i didnt like them ditching the format of the big reveal with the suspects - hope they go back to that for future episodes.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 13:45

They did manage to avoid having the detective scratching and sneezing all the time.

I agree with him about the crabs - they're basically spiders in armour.

BillieLurk · 16/01/2021 08:55

I quite liked the last one (although now I think about it I can’t remember the motive either Blush). Neville was much more likeable without all the allergy stuff, although he does feel a bit too similar to Richard right down to the dislike of crustaceans. I’m really curious to see what his storyline is going to be as the show goes on though.

SoupDragon · 16/01/2021 09:39

Something about ruining his newTV career by besmirching his credentials or character or something.

RaraRachael · 16/01/2021 11:29

i enjoyed this week's episode as there wasn't any sneezing and allergy crap from Ralf Little. Also I'm glad Ruby has gone as she was irritating beyond belief.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/01/2021 11:32

The professor caught him selling artefacts (coins). He said he was doing it to get out of a hole, so I presumed a debt, because he was selling them for money. But I still don't really understand why!

He'd been doing his PhD for three years, so could have written up while starting the new job (because I'm sure the TV company would like the person to be a doctor, it adds some cachet), and used the money from that to pay them off. In the worst case scenario, where the tv company wanted him to finish his doctorate first, it would have been delayed six months while he wrote up, and the blackmailer or whatever could probably have squeezed him for more money because he'd have been on a big salary!

BerlinCalling · 16/01/2021 14:05

I have never seen an episode of this before but i happened to catch it this week. Do they always flashback to every single bit of evidence when they do the big reveal? And do they always question their suspect in the middle of a field?!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/01/2021 14:24

It isn't always a field. It might be a hotel, or the beach, or a vineyard. It very rarely the police station though. Grin

They pretty much always do flashbacks. Usually before the detective says "I've got it!" or "Why didn't I see that before?!" or something similar.

NewYearNewLockdown · 16/01/2021 15:06

And the big reveal is always in front of the five suspects Grin

Floralnomad · 16/01/2021 16:39

I’m enjoying the new series , it’s fine if you treat it for what it is which is light entertainment not a complicated crime show , for me anyone was going to be an improvement on Ardal O’Hanlon as he made it virtually unwatchable .

notacooldad · 16/01/2021 16:47

Unpopular opinion.
I love Arda O' hannlonl In fact I've liked all the detective's.
I loved Ruby
Din Warrington is great especially when he is in a bad mood! 😂
I liked Camille and Florence.
I like that its predictable and formulaic.
Its easy watching with a bit of humour.

devildeepbluesea · 16/01/2021 16:49

I love Death In Paradise. Always have, Richard was the best obvs but I've been quite happy to watch it with any of the leads.

It's just so gorgeous to look at, with simple, formulaic plots which are undemanding and fun. Proper brain candy.

mogtheexcellent · 16/01/2021 17:07

@notacooldad

I also loved ardal. I thought it was great there was no chance of romance between him and the female detective - all that mooning over camille drove me nuts. I thought he ended up with a good relationship with the commissioner.

Also loved Ruby. Tj is great so will be good to see how he copes with the new lad its a different actress playing his wife I think this series.

The commissioner and Catherine are fab.

notacooldad · 16/01/2021 17:15

mogtheexcellent
I read today that it was the actor's real life wife who is playing JP's screen wife.

I wandered off to do my 1000 piece puzzle as I was so bored. I think it's too formulaic to be going for so many series and I find the new lead irritating. Sad
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2021 20:39

Yes. Df and I like to guess who it is at the beginning

I did assume dad was dead tho. A total red herring

But

Thank god for no winging about his allergies this week

That drives me mad

And Neville deserved to pay for the fire damage

It was his candle

VanGoghsDog · 16/01/2021 20:43

The actor fell out with the BBC quite badly I think. Doubt he'll work for them again.
