Thurs at 9 Richard returns
Can we figure out how they are going to pull this off given that he had an ice pick in his chest when we last saw himGrin
My guess. It was stated and he has been undercover for the last 3/4 years or however long it has been

Maybe they should repeat S and H in the Thursday slot, or put The Mallorca files (which I’ve not watched yet) on then. It would fit that slot

Standrewsschool · 20/02/2021 08:25

Just read on Facebook that two more series has been commissioned.

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 20/02/2021 10:58

I love this show! It’s so cheesy. I often think it could be a good drinking game...a drink when someone says “It doesn’t make sense”, a drink when they use the term “cast-iron alibis, when they say “We might as well call it a night”, the penny drop moment when the detective figures it out from an abstract comment...so predictable but I love it!

I agree Richard really was the best detective, after the anticipation of his return it was very short-lived! I think not mentioning people from the past is down to writing rules...all dialogue must be meaningful in taking the story forward. That’s why they rarely mention people from the past, it doesn’t help the story. More satisfaction for the viewers though. It would have been nice for Florence to mention seeing the other detectives in London.

I agree about Florence’s clothes, highly impractical! Camille always looked comfortable but that bit more professional.

I agree if you like DIP, The Mallorca Files and Shakespeare and Hathaway are enjoyable too. Also highly recommend Republic of Doyle on Netflix (cheesy Canadian detective drama).

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2021 11:34

Now ralf has stopped singing about his gnat bites /allergies he’s better

I don’t think they should do a relationship between two of the 4 police

So she should say no

Tho sure will say yes and a wedding to start off next series wohid be good

Jp shouldn’t go

And if she was wearing gel nail polish there wouid be no chip on the gin trigger 😂

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/02/2021 12:17

With all the hoo-ha over Richard & Camille coming back, I decided to go back and watch earlier episodes, starting with the one Richard dies in - inexplicably, I had never seen it before! Then went back to the very start.

In episode 1, the dead detective Richard replaces is shown working in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, and Richard is shown looking at his wardrobe, which appears to consist of nothing but Hawaiian shirts. So him sticking to his suit and tie, constantly mopping his face because he's sweating so much, was making the point that he's a literally 'buttoned-up' person. Fine. And Humphrey wore his crumpled linen suit which was appropriate for a hot climate. Again, fine. But since then, the British detective dressing as if he's in the UK just jars. Especially when the detective actively points out that he's finding the heat a bit much. Seems like lazy writing to me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2021 14:15

That’s what I said @WhereYouLeftIt

It’s hot

They are used to U.K. coldness

Yet wear long sleeves /trousers

Weird all are male as well

theliverpoolone · 21/02/2021 14:30

Jack managed to wear short sleeves (although still a tie!). He integrated himself the most with the locals, getting involved with card games, bingo etc.

JaquelineBeanstalk · 21/02/2021 15:22

Is it just me who was a little uncomfortable with all the lying and acceptance and approval of lying that was going on? Totally understand the motive behind it, but it still made me uneasy.

I just put it down to artistic licence and don't take to seriously. There's plot holes every week!🤷‍♀️

Jack was my favourite which doesn't seem a popular opinion, most seem to love Richard!
I think it was the fact he was just a bit lost after the death of his wife and seemed to enjoy the new experience/chapter in his life. A proper fresh start.
Also helped that there was no crap forced love interest.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 21/02/2021 16:38

Not just you @JaquelineBeanstalk

I was pretty Confused Hmm at choosing now to tell a story that, in real life, would amount to covering up police brutality.

ChoccyJules · 21/02/2021 16:39

I liked Jack best too.

I do wonder why Neville is still wearing a shirt and tie, even though it’s more casual than Richard‘s was.

With the punching incident I think Marlon could have claimed self defence, do you not think?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/02/2021 16:50

I actually think it would've been better for Marlon to take the blame for the punch. JP making everyone lie was uncomfortable.
When the Chief Inspector asked him if it was true I thought he was going to say no because he had too much respect for JP to allow him to take the blame.
They could've worked out another way for him to stay. Suppose they needed an exit for JP though to be dismissed so he isn't in the next series working his notice.

Wonder who will take his place.

woodhill · 21/02/2021 16:56

Or the others to be paying attention to the annoying suspect and intervening on Marlon's behalf

JaquelineBeanstalk · 21/02/2021 17:14

Yes, I think it was the interpretation of "police brutality" that made me uneasy. It's very easy to tell a story from one point of view, but it can be very different from another's perspective.

Cherryberrypies · 21/02/2021 18:50

Finally watched the episode. I will really miss JP. I wish they hadn’t had him take the blame though, the whole fight added nothing to the plot and was just silly. Time will have passed by next season so it’s easy to explain why JP isn’t there.

I really hope we don’t start next season with a wedding. They hardly know each other as she’s only just moved back, and I don’t think it suits Florence character to move on so quickly.

Also when neville had shorts on one episode this series the commissioner made a comment about his pasty legs and to implied to get trousers on. So maybe Richard set a precedent the commissioner now expects them to all adhere too.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 21/02/2021 18:55

I don't like Marlon at all but he didn't throw the first push/punch and so was acting defensively. I know because I rewound it to check. A far better outcome would have been to review it on CCTV in the station (which they should have even if they don't) and dismiss the complaint. All the lying was ridiculous.
Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/02/2021 19:07

He was off duty though the commissioner was taking the piss because he didn't/doesn't like him. They've just used Neville for all the Brit abroad stereotypes. The chicken and chips thing annoys me most.

Florence might be fond of him in a sympathetic friend kind of way but in love? Not buying it.

Is S and H Shakespeare and Hathaway? If so, I completely agree! If not I haven’t a clue what you are talking about 😆
Toomanybedrooms · 21/02/2021 19:51

@dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby
I agree.
But it was pretty obvious that the commissioner knew, especially after he said he was proud about JP

ImAncient · 21/02/2021 19:55

Too ridiculous for me to accept that a sergeant would have a conduct mark forever on his file for another’s mistake. Marlon was completely provoked.

It’s also getting on my nerves of the (potential) romances between the inspector & the female sergeants. And I wouldn’t mind female inspector next.

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/02/2021 20:06

"And I wouldn’t mind female inspector next."
My vote goes to Joanna Scanlon (DI Vivienne Deering).

S&h repeats are back on bbc afternoon slot

Nor me, especially if her deputy was a strapping bloke strutting about in sprayed on shorts.
