I’ve been waiting for this all year. It drops on Christmas Day. Apparently the second series has already been commissioned, so it must be pretty good.

No no no @Grace58, the first one is about Daphne. Black mallet of death is Anthony and Kate, book 2😂

NaughtipussMaximus · 25/12/2020 21:30

I tried reading the books and found them... not good, but I’m enjoying this. It is basically Regency Downton but I’m ok with that.

VenusClapTrap · 25/12/2020 21:49

Well that was disappointing.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/12/2020 22:31

I haven't read the books but I'm finding this hilarious. It's extremely tongue in cheek.

Has anyone else noticed the music in the dances? It was vaguely bothering me and then I thought it might be modern music played regency style and the next dance tune was Billie Eilish and I knew I was right. Grin

fourquenelles · 25/12/2020 23:04

Just finished binge watching the whole series (well what else to do when on one's own for Christmas?). Loved it and was paying close attention to the backgrounds/sets as well as story line. Pure escapism.

Gooseysgirl · 26/12/2020 00:30

I'm two episodes in... It's ok... the main attraction for me is the Duke who is HOT!!!! 🥰

TheCraicDealer · 26/12/2020 01:52

I've just finished two episodes too. They've fucked about with the timelines and characters a bit which I don't like, but if you look at it as a show in its own right I suppose I can get over it.

My two fave books were the ones with Antony (being a proper cock so far isn't he?! ) and Eloise, so I'm hoping if they do more they don't mess around with those too much.

August20 · 26/12/2020 02:02

I enjoyed it BUT I had to turn off the part of my brain that likes Jane Austen etc. and just watch it for the mindless rubbish it is.

Madbengalmum · 26/12/2020 10:27

Great trash tv, i am enjoying it, ignoring all of the historical inaccuracies. I too was convinced the music was modern and was trying to identify it!

WotWouldCJDo · 26/12/2020 10:42

I just couldn’t get in to it.

MyVisionsComeFromScent · 26/12/2020 12:30

once I got over my indignation at the historical inaccuracies, and accepted them as being deliberate, I'm really enjoying it. And yes, playing Billie Eillish at a regency ball was very funny Grin.

Is it worth reading the books, as a massive Georgette Heyer fan? Anything else I've tried hasn't matched up and has just irritated me for being Wrong.

MyVisionsComeFromScent · 26/12/2020 12:31

think the music is the Vitamin String Quartet who are very very good

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/12/2020 12:46

Have you tried Jan Jones for Regency romance MyVisionsComeFromScent?

WarmHeyerette · 26/12/2020 13:11

I tried, I really did. If you accept it as an alternative universe inspired by a love of Austen and Heyer, you can kind of let it wash over you but because they pick and choose the social rules that apply it doesn't make any sense.
So you end up with a kind of 21st century Mills and Boon with sex shoehorned in wherever possible.
I'd just hoped it would be a bit more witty or interesting.

Brot64 · 26/12/2020 13:21

I was also waiting for this and really had high hopes. Have so far tried twice and both times both DH and I have fallen asleep trying to watch. It's painfully boring.

queenofarles · 26/12/2020 13:26

I read The books when I was 18, I remember it being really trashy but fun quick read.

I’m half way through and all I can think of is the lack of bonnets and hats. Confused

It’s certainly not as visually pleasing as Emma. Which had amazing setting and costumes.

But I’m really loving Queen Charlotte and lady Danbury they’ve aced their roles.

The sex scenes are all quite hilarious though , lots of noises Grin .
But not sure I’ll continue watching it.

MoChridhe · 26/12/2020 14:50

I love the queen and lady Danbury.
The Duke of Hastings is my eye candy. I am enjoying it a lot.

themental · 26/12/2020 21:17

I've been binging this all day. I'm really enjoying it. Love the queen!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 26/12/2020 21:53

I’m on episode 3 and enjoying it.

Duke is very easy on the eye as is the eldest Bridgerton.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 26/12/2020 21:53

And I can’t believe that Penelope is from Derry Girls.

Luzina · 26/12/2020 21:59

I fast forwarded the sex scenes because yawn

Otherwise I loved it. It’s a bit like the books but more ‘inspired by’ than a faithful rendition of. It’s not BBC type historically accurate period drama AT ALL. It’s silly and fun and perfect viewing if you like Georgette Heyer or similar

If you are looking for an alternative to Georgette Heyer, try Eloisa James. Not really similar apart from the era but fun and enjoyable and reasonably well written

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/12/2020 22:19

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName

And I can’t believe that Penelope is from Derry Girls.
I can't believe how young the actress playing Penelope looks, she's actually 33.
Trickyboy · 26/12/2020 23:10

Well that was 8 hours of pure escapism .. just binged the lot. Delicious, sumptuous, floaty ball-gowned nonsense. Absolutely fucking perfect !

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/12/2020 23:27

Just binge watched the whole thing. Perfect easy watching tv for a rainy Boxing Day.

RubyViolet · 26/12/2020 23:34

I find the casting of women with size 0/2 bodies in the romantic leads yawnsome.
Both the women cast who acted in the romantic/ sex scenes were teeny tiny. The male characters pick them up like dolls.
