New itv series - 4 parts - runs mon to thur

When recently widowed Vivienne announces her love for new man Mark, it throws the family of adult children into chaos

With their large family home and inheritance at risk , the siblings try to find out more about their mums new love

Sounds like the recent toy boy drama and mum meets new man ....... minus being a toy boy 😂😂

I wondering if boss the daughter is having an affair with , is in the bag

Seems too obvious to have mum or boyfriend dead

Yes, I think it's too early to tell who is in the bag but I'm thinking it won't be Stephen Rea's character.

stumbledin · 25/02/2020 14:21

Agree about the hair for both Stephen Rea and Francesca Annis, not sure why as she mid 70s (not sure about him) she cant just have grey hair. Cant people with grey hair fall in love, have sexual dalliances. (Wish I was fit enought to jog up the beach at 70+!)

Can anyone remember a very recent tv series in which FA played the mother of one of the main characters. They didn't really get on but she helped her daughter (detective?) track down someone by phoning up old schools and things. Just niggling me that I cant remember, as I was pleased to see she had a part of tv, since Home Fires. Thought she was totally brilliant in Cranford playing someone really elderly pretending that old age wasn't dragging her down. Made me think of my Mum.

Anyhow, shame this has been shown so soon after Gold Digger because on one level it is obviously a crime drama, but the family stuff is just too similar.

The Imelda Staunton character is a bit of a crime figure characature (spelling?!) but she does it so well.

And loved the way the detective said "the person" in hospital. I rewound to listen again as I thought I had missed who it was, but they are obviously teasing us to keep on watching.

Also glad to see Sharon Small keep gettings part where she is no longer having to be down trodden.

Lovely houses, but bet its cold in the winter and grim.

The80sweregreat · 25/02/2020 15:22

I think that creepy neighbour and the new man have ' history' and in it together for the money. Or it's her son whose fed up he didn't get 10 k from his dad and gets violent.
Bound to be a big twist as most books like this tend to have one.

UntamedWisteria · 25/02/2020 15:53

Completely agree with you stumbledin.

She is 74, he is 73. Why can't they both have grey hair, and be sexy too?

unique1986 · 25/02/2020 15:58

Well the 50 something year old boss has grey hair.

The80sweregreat · 25/02/2020 16:22

The wife is aware of the affair : maybe the daughter gets killed?
Has to be significant.

stumbledin · 25/02/2020 17:12

Just to answer my own question (with held from a friend IRL) Francesca Annis played Bancroft's mother in the 2nd series (which was nearly as demented as the first!) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3783255-BANCROFT-S2-starts-JAN-1-itv-9pm-no-spoilers

Mooserp · 25/02/2020 19:19

I quite enjoyed it. I imagine lots of red herrings.

The detective said the person is fighting for their life, so not dead. Odd that he smiled after saying 'murder'

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2020 19:30

Agree@The80sweregreat.

Body bag something to do with married boss man whether him ,wife or the daughter

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/02/2020 19:43

Odd that he smiled after saying 'murder'
I think he knew that (Mary?) wasn't telling the truth. It wasn't a happy smile it was a wry smile telling her how serious it was ie going to the police station.

The80sweregreat · 25/02/2020 20:16

It's telling that we don't know any of their names on here and I have subtitles on too.
The one playing the bad boy son is fit though! Not a nice character though.

SimonJT · 25/02/2020 20:18

Russell Tovey, check out his instagram.

The80sweregreat · 25/02/2020 20:51

He is seriously lovely but too young for me. They all are these days! 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2020 20:58

@The80sweregreat He’s a neighbour so I get to see him quite often, sadly he’s in the states at the moment. I used to play rugby with his boyfriend, a man I’m very jealous of!

Honeyroar · 25/02/2020 21:19

They’re a very strange family. Where is the new boyfriend’s accent meant to be from?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2020 21:20

Who is the boss

Recognise him

Is she really preg or made it up to test him ?

OP posts:
museumum · 25/02/2020 21:30

@Honeyroar - new man has an Irish passport.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2020 21:38

Anyone think his daughter doesn’t exist ?

Train crash and had to stay at work as doc

OP posts:
Choux · 25/02/2020 21:44

Bet she got married

Honeyroar · 25/02/2020 21:47

Yes, think she’s married. Would it be legal?

When Mary was sat in bed looking at the tablets was she in her own house or the mother’s?

wetpants · 25/02/2020 21:58

I quite like this! I agree it seems very similar to Gold Digger though.

The boss man was in a short lived rom com tv series with Sally Phillips in the early noughties. He was very fanciable back then Blush

Claudie Blakeley sat right front of me at a theatre play about a year ago. I was very star struct as I’ve always liked her as an actress.

Francesca Annis has an amazing figure!

The creepy neighbour is such a shit stirrer. IS plays her so well.

TightPants · 25/02/2020 21:58

Her own house I think @Honeyroar

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2020 22:04

Neighbour took the pills out of vivens house
And was checking Them I thought

And when mark opened box in hotel bathroom he looked like he was counting /looking at tablets to say some are missing

And I said that about his daughter not existing before Russel /son did 😂
