Just watching now

Forgot how they light up After sex Grin

Moomin8 · 10/02/2020 23:18

Yeah, the really clever thing about This Life is how it conveys the characters feelings without any dialogue. Millies frustration verging on contempt when she gets home from work and Egg is asleep on the sofa. And the impact their strained relationship is having on everyone else.

Verily1 · 13/02/2020 20:05

Just saw that O’Donnell drove Millie home after they shared a bottle of wine- wouldnt get that now!

jackparlabane · 13/02/2020 20:24

I was living in a much lower-rent house share at the time, and it really bonded us all together, watching it. It was pretty much the first time a non-camp gay guy had been on TV, followed by a bisexual guy and even gay sex. I moved back to my parents for the last few episodes which meant my dad watching Ferdy and Lenny shagging in the shower. Dad pointedly commented on the tiling.

I got the DVDs and watched it all before the +10 episode - suddenly I saw why Milly went for O'Donnell, had sympathy for O'Donnell being a manager, and even found Rachel less annoying.

There were some lovely house-shares like that in Southwark (nearer Elephant) - we were going to get one owned by college but one lass being supported by her posh mother was told she wasn't allowed south of the river.

I still have huge envy re Milly's hair.

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/02/2020 15:41

I don’t blame Millie one bit. Egg is a pathetic child. I want to slap him and I’m not living with him! 😄

fedup21 · 14/02/2020 22:20

Egg was deffo being pathetic but O’Donnell really wasn’t attractive.

It surprises me how much of it I remember-even though I must have only watched it once. ‘Caffeine-free coffee? It’s like alcohol-free lager; what’s the fucking point?!’

Trews2019 · 15/02/2020 07:53

Egg’s dad is in the Archers now!

Lottapianos · 15/02/2020 07:57

'I still have huge envy re Milly's hair' - totally agree. It's so lovely and glossy

Anna is so much like Fleabag, she even looks like her

Why did they only show Series 1? I feel incomplete!

kateandme · 15/02/2020 07:59

is it on iplayer?

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/02/2020 08:30

Yes @kateandme, the entire first series

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 15/02/2020 08:37

I'm watching series 2 on britbox.

I love hearing 90s music in the background.

Portishead! Suede! Pulp! Oasis!

Happy, happy days. Grin

Summergarden · 15/02/2020 08:41

Finding this has made my day. Thanks OP!

NameChangeNugget · 15/02/2020 08:43

I used to love Esther Rantzen

fedup21 · 15/02/2020 09:24

Watched the last episode last night. Ricky Gervais was listed in the credits as being the musical adviser!

EvilPea · 15/02/2020 09:29

His wife / partner was the producer wasn’t she?

ceeveebee · 15/02/2020 09:35

Iusedtobeapartygirl Ooh thanks - think I can get a 30 day free trial. Wonder if this is a ploy to get people to sign up to britbox!

Iusedtobeapartygirl · 15/02/2020 09:53

I'm using the 30 day free trial, Smile

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 10:27

Anyone had any reply from BBC4 yet?

I haven't 🙄☹

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 15/02/2020 11:15

Any meaningful reply, I should say?

AlexaAmbidextra · 15/02/2020 12:37

I’ve had the box set for years so have just started series 2. The Anna and Egg’s dad made me feel a bit ill actually. I didn’t like his wet little mouth. 🤮. Now if it had been Miles’ dad I certainly would have. It made me realise how old I am that I’d take the father over the son. 😂

fedup21 · 15/02/2020 12:58

The Anna and Egg’s dad made me feel a bit ill actually.

Me, too. Him following her around the house was a bit sad as well!

Miles was a right twat but I still would Grin.

I must be old though-I can’t imagine having a house party like that, mid week when I had work the next day. It fills me with panic!

Jojoanna · 15/02/2020 14:41

I forgot about Delilah she was so annoying

beachandwaves · 15/02/2020 14:48

It's a shame I don't have a TV now. I loved Andrew Lincoln in it. It reminded me of my flat share in London although real life was far more mundane Smile

Does anyone remember the reunion programme? Millie was a stay at home Mum and Egg was a novelist.

Herocomplex · 15/02/2020 14:55

I didn’t watch this the first time round, but it brought back incredible memories of that time, just the general life of London. I worked near Temple so was looking for familiar things. I loved those deli sandwich shops, before all the chains came along. Fags and wine bars/pubs. Having friends all over in crappy rented houses. Ah, nostalgia!

Am FURIOUS there’s no series 2 on iplayer, it’s got so many episodes!!!

fedup21 · 15/02/2020 15:12

Yes! It was really shite, wasn’t it?!
