That reveal! 😳
Took me ages to figure out what was going on.

I actually like some of the stories this year but still think Jodie is awful. Ryan must go, he is terrible and Graham isn't much better.

iklboo · 12/02/2020 14:35

We had more fun delivering outrageous lines in the style of Ryan:

Doctor, I'm on fire. It's not nice. Stings a bit.
Doctor, Yaz has turned into a pile of green goo.
Doctor, the TARDIS keeps telling me to kill people.
Doctor, Graham's been eaten by a pack of mad chihuahuas.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 17/02/2020 08:20

An interesting episode - thoughtful, clever and funny. Enjoyed Mary Shelley getting inspiration for her book!

DuckWillow · 17/02/2020 09:58

Great except for about the last 10 minutes. Anyone else think the house was going to be a Tardis with the Master?

DuckWillow · 17/02/2020 09:59

I don’t think Jodie is awful, I just think the show have created a female Doctor without having the confidence to showcase her properly. So she needs a family of companions around her rather than just one or two. As a result she is diluted. I suspect any female Doctor with the stories Jodie has had would suffer,

SoupDragon · 17/02/2020 11:37

But Ruth was a far better doctor in the brief time we saw her. Jodie is too manic, too "ditzy".. I never get a feeling of capability from her.

I thought last night was one of the better episodes.

DuckWillow · 17/02/2020 12:24

Ruth was better but it was really just her and Jodie after the reveal. It would have been better had Jodie had such minimal dilution from the start. We might have seen more of her ability that way.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2020 13:12

I don't think she is capable of carrying it without a "family" of companions. She was poor in comparison to Ruth when it was just the two of them. It really showed up what a female doctor could have been.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2020 13:13

I don't know how much is how the writers have written her and how much to how she's chosen to play the character.

iklboo · 17/02/2020 14:37

One good thing has come out of last night - DS(14) has downloaded Frankenstein Grin

mencken · 18/02/2020 18:12

gosh, that was boring until the monster appeared. Some badly mumbled lines too.

Ryan. Why? How did someone who cannot act get a job as an actor? Has he been in anything else - hoping to be charitable that is just this part he can't do. It was the case with Maisie Williams, she was solid wood when she was in Doctor Who so I was stunned to see how good she was in Thrones. Is he also an ex-child actor that has outgrown his skills?

iklboo · 18/02/2020 18:52

He used to be in Hollyoaks, apparently. He was probably Laurence Olivier standard in that compared to others I've seen Grin

Noodlenosefraggle · 18/02/2020 19:01

Its irritating that they had 2 good reveals ( The Master and Ruth) and then have completely forgotten about them for 2 crappy episodes. They could have used the arc in the way it was used in previous series but that would take a bit of imagination and a modicum of talent from the showrunner.

HeyAssbutt · 18/02/2020 20:55

I thought this one was better. Kind of spooky and with a good villain. Apparently the timeless child arc will be solved in the last two episodes. I hate to say this about a companion but I really hope ryan dies!

RustyBear · 18/02/2020 21:50

@HeyAssbutt - people used to say that about Adric, for much the same reasons!

ShinyGiratina · 19/02/2020 18:13

Underwhelmed again.
I hate the current style of murky, mumbly TV filming so you can't tell who is talking and what they're saying. The Handmaids Tale suits subtitles, but Dr Who shouldn't be a show to be read through, plus you can't turn it up without being boomed by effects soon after.

At least it wasn't too much of a moral lecture this week. I'm going off Jodie, and most of the way through series 2, there should be much more rapport with her and her companions. Graham probably had more in-depth relationships with his bus passengers!

mencken · 19/02/2020 19:16

regrettably that's correct about Adric, and the dreadful Mel (Bonnie Langford) who we may all have wiped from our minds.

For me, Bill was the same. The character-less companion with added mumble between cries of 'wossat, Doctor?' I almost cheered when she got perforated - but that didn't get rid of her, argh!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2020 19:17

I'd forgotten about Mel!
Adric was so annoying and as for Ace!

EmpressLangClegInChair · 23/02/2020 20:08

How was tonight’s episode?

FlappingTurtle · 23/02/2020 20:13

Disappointed. Lost interest in this episode, started looking at my phone, literally fell asleep.

Much preferred last week.

slipperywhensparticus · 23/02/2020 20:15

I've not even bothered with this series I watched the first couple and lost interest

HeyAssbutt · 23/02/2020 20:21

Tonight's was ok. Definitely a filler to get to all the revelations next week. Good entrance by the master at the very end. Dialogue was boring as seems to be Chris Chibnall's way. Threat of the cybermen was good though. Ryan was even more useless than usual. The supporting characters aren't great either. Next weeks better be bloody good!

FlappingTurtle · 23/02/2020 21:00

Yes, this episode all just seemed designed to shunt the long-term story arc further forward. Not much interest in terms of character or dialogue or humour. Lots of running around with random strangers, being shot at.

I don't really care about the long-term plotline. I just want to watch an entertaining TV programme on a Sunday night. If it's not working on that level then it's basically not working for me at all.

QuiQuaiQuod · 23/02/2020 21:12

Rusty- I'm a WHovian - as in, PROPER WHO, docs 1-7.

Don't think it should ever have come back, Ive said before Its now Doctor WOKE.
CE, DT, LOVED MAtt Smith, PC, they had their moments, granted, but generally poor writing, awful companions, and too much trying to outdo other sci-fi series.

But...cant stand ACE and 'professor', as for being a role model, yeah? blowing things up with nitro 9? ??

Adric was the Wesley Crusher of DW, but Id still take Adric, Ace and Mel any day over the 'latest ones' (As the Brig would say).

LOVE Michael Gough and would have loved a follow up.

Saw Sean Pertwee in TV times, hes the TWIN of his dad (If that makes sense.)

NEVER AGreed the doc should change gender, there are /were plenty female time people around, inc- Susan, Jenny, Flavia, Thalia, Romana, Rani, any of them could have come into the show regenerated .

Or given a 'sarah Jane adventures' type spin off.

Its had political issues and envioronment issues before -planet of the daleks, Green death (my absolute fave), invasion of the dinosaurs (Jon Pertwees our fave doc!) etc, but I don't think they were ever 'preachy'.

I just think its all too BBC box-ticking now.

RustyBear · 23/02/2020 21:55

QuiQuaeQuod - can tell you're a Third Doctor fan by your name - The Great Wizard!
And talking of Doctor's sons - have you ever heard David Troughton reading Second Doctor audiobooks? He's got his Dad's voice perfectly!

And if I kept watching during the 6th Doctor era - Trial of a Time Lord, anyone? - I'm not going to give up now!
