That reveal! 😳
Took me ages to figure out what was going on.

We tried to watch last week's Frankenstein inspired episode (on iplayer) this evening. Gave up within ten minutes. The writing is dreadful.
I loved this program - all through the Ecclestone years, Tennant and Matt Smith. Never quite took to Peter Capaldi. This incarnation is the worst. No fault of Jodie - it's the writing.
Bring back Russell T Davies or I'm done.

LuckyLickitung · 23/02/2020 23:53

So the Doctor and her dreary companions have found some straggling remnents of the human race and are rattling around space to dodge cybermen. Did I miss much else while perusing AIBU at the same time?
I didn't really get the olde Irish abandoned baby/ remarkable policeman sub-plot, but it was more interesting.

I'm just not gripped enough to follow disjointed plotlines.

My friend with whom I shared a cushion to hide behind the night Blink came out as we squealed in terror is also deeply underwhelmed and going back through the David Tennant/ Cathrine Tate series.

DuckWillow · 24/02/2020 07:02

I'm waiting for it to all be explained.

Brendan made me wonder if they were all on the Boshane Peninsula but then as things went on I wasn't sure.

Looking forward to next week.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2020 07:27

How come the doctor didn't scan the Boundary with her sonic vibrator? She scans everything with it but I don't think she used it this week.

Noodlenosefraggle · 24/02/2020 08:21

I enjoyed this episode but maybe it was just relief that it wasnt as terrible as last weeks! There does seem an awful lot to wrap up in the finale considering they have had so many rubbish episodes. The Brendan sub plot, Ruth, The Master- maybe they realised both Sacha Dhawan and the actress who plays Ruth would have made a better Doctor so haven't used them enough.

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 08:54

Oh my - the Brendan story is just ... staggering. By far the best turnaround of the whole series - and the first time under CC that I cannot wait for next week.

Mind blowing.

iklboo · 24/02/2020 16:27

Hope Jack is in the finale. Otherwise a brief cameo would have been pointless other than the line about the lone cyberman.

QuiQuaiQuod · 24/02/2020 20:17

rusty yes, although Ive spelt my usernamer a bit wrong!
DC and I have a WHofest every weekend from after lunch till about 9pm!

I like the vervoids from the trial of a time Lord, but the rest are a bit meh. have their moments.

Colin Baker's the one we watch least, not cos of him, hes brilliant, but 1-dont like Peri and her fake accent and 2- most of the stories are not up to much (although Ill take them anyday over the current lot!)

We watch Docs 1, 2 and 3 mostly, followed by 7 and 4, occasionally 5 (I find Turlough annoying!)

Mayube we can have a thread about old classic WHo as to not derail this one? Tardis

Fiddlersgreen · 24/02/2020 20:49

In our house we think that Brendan is going to turn out to be the main cyberman?

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 21:04

But surely the point is that from the beginning of the episode we were given to understand that it was Brendan who arrived as the alien - whereas the final few minutes indicate that it was the villagers (or at least two of them) who are not the uncomplicated human beings we assumed them to be.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2020 21:05

We think he is the man at the Boundary.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2020 21:07

(Although Brendan the Cyberman was our first thought)

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 21:10

The villagers didn’t age ... so ... could they be an outpost of Time Lords, guarding a portal to Gallifrey?

I dunno - that ending was so damn twisty; it’s making my head hurt.

SurpriseSparDay · 24/02/2020 21:11

Or perhaps the village was actually on Gallifrey?

rosy71 · 24/02/2020 22:54

I wondered if Brendan was the doctor. He had ginger hair and the doctor always wants to have ginger hair. There was also the police connection. I think he must be a time lord because of the chameleon arch and clock at the end. I don't know why he aged though when the others didn't.

I also think they were on Gallifrey, not in Ireland.

EliK · 24/02/2020 22:57

I'll be disappointed if we don't see Jack in the finale.

HeyAssbutt · 24/02/2020 23:13

The whole Brendan thing just made my head hurt! I thought cybermen but the time period seems too early. Is it earth? I dont know! Aaaagh! I think jack will be in the finale. Would love to see the doctor and him meet. I saw another trailer. It looks intense and maybe hints at Yaz sacrificing herself to save the others

Kalim8 · 25/02/2020 12:40

It's not making sense to me "oh I'll just give the lone cyberman what it wants and then go stop it"
Followed by Yaz and the others taking refuge on a cyberman ship - presumably there'd be no need for life support on a cyberman ship, so how are the humans surviving?

thegirlwhowaited · 29/02/2020 21:48

Just watched this series and am waiting patiently for the last one.

I have to say I’m not keen on all the bbc box ticking either. It just seems to be all about signalling various ishooos and all I need for Dr Woke bingo is for a cyberman to be self ID as a cyberwoman.

I want to love Jodie but I can’t. I loved Ecclestone and Tennant and Tate. I even liked Peter Capaldi but like Jodie, the writing just seems all wrong .

If it carries on in this vein I shall be hugely disappointed. Sad. I don’t want or need Dr Who to be worthy.

Dr Who is damaged and they are as dark and bad as they are good. And damaged Doctors are dangerous because they know they can survive.

DuckWillow · 01/03/2020 17:13

I know the writing has been pants but I love DW and am hanging on for it to improve. This season was so much better than last season and I like Jodie. I just wish she had stories worthy of her talents.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2020 19:11

Sacha Dhawan is brilliant as the Master. I think he shows up the weakness with the Doctor TBH

StarbucksSmarterSister · 01/03/2020 19:42

I started watching as a small child in 1963 and I've watched every Dr except Sylvester McCoy. She is by far the worst and it's not just the writing. Capaldi had crap writing at times but I still thought he was fabulous. Chibnall is hopeless.

woodhill · 01/03/2020 19:44

This is dreadful, too much going on.

This over complicated plot and constantly rewriting

EmpressLangClegInChair · 02/03/2020 06:32

So last time they wanted to imprison the Doctor there was an interspecies Alliance, a complicated plan involving Amy’s Roman fantasies & a Pandorica. Now the Judoon just throw her in a cell.

Noodlenosefraggle · 02/03/2020 10:02

Sacha Dhawan is brilliant as the Master. I think he shows up the weakness with the Doctor
I agree. I really want to like her but I can see how almost every other incarnation do her part better than her. She was better last night but sometimes her emotional range is lacking I find. I also thought the cybermen story was a waste of time. They all got blown up after 10 minutes so why bother? Just concentrate on the Master/ Gallifrey/ who the hell Ruth and Brendan were etc rather than introducing mysterious characters and not padding them out because you want to do yet another cyber army story where they march about before getting blown up!
