I'm gutted Bradley is leaving, he's my favourite. Apparently he has said that the schedule and the physicality of the show was getting too hard for him. Bless him. I dont love yaz but at least ryan is buggering off. I've got a feeling the next series will be Jodies last.

I don’t mind Yaz but up to now she’s been dull.

What is wrong with the current set up though? Would the writing be fine with a different cast? The Master and Ruth (and other peripheral characters) would suggest so. Would the cast be better off with different writing? I assume they are not all crap actors in other things.

Some of the writing is execrable - the banal speechifying in particular, IMHO.

But as I mentioned above - often it’s the delivery; the scripts work if one imagines different actors.

Obviously there’s always a period of adjustment when a new Doctor arrives - and usually I’ve accepted the new one in the blink of an eye. Was never reconciled to PC until almost the end of his tenure, when he became awesomely grand. Ruth looks as if she could bring some much-needed gravitas and danger (if only she’d speed up her delivery). But I’m just not feeling it with JW ...

Has JW been better in other stuff?

She was in Broadchurch and Attack The Block.

But was she any good in them? I only saw series 2 of Broadchurch and didn't even realise it was the same actress. She wasn't very memorable to me.

I think she's dreadful in this. I didn't like Matt Smith at first but never thought he was a terrible actor and in retrospect I feel all the previous modern doctors have been really good.

I find myself wanting (and watching) her eyebrows. And teeth.

I feel if she was holding my attention ‘Doctor’ wise I wouldn’t be coveting hair and pegs.

She's a perfectly decent actor with a limited range. Not every actor is world class, and I think we've been lucky in the reboot to have as many really, really talented actors playing the Doctor. It pisses me off that there are lots and lots of very good female actors with range and screen presence who could have made much more with the material, as wonky as it's been, and we have been lumbered with Whittaker who doesn't have either.

Did I ever mention how much I hate her outfit? It actually makes me want to look anywhere on the screen but at her. It’s vile - and somehow I find myself blaming JW for it, which is probably unfair.

I agree with is. If you are going to do something as significant as casting a female Doctor, you dont just get the person in who was on your last gig. I dont thing she has the presence to carry the role off. Many people will attribute that to her being a woman rather than just bring average.

Why did the BBC choose her for the Doctor? A female Doctor is an intriguing idea, but they should have chosen an actress with greater gravitas and preferably stage experience.

I haven't seen the series finale, but I've read reviews. I agree with all the criticism. The Doctor doesn't need a detailed origin story. He/she certainly doesn't need this origin story. The best thing for the franchise at this point is to rescind it and pretend it never happened.

Except they then introduced a second female doctor who appeared calm, capable and serious.

DS2 (16) said after the final episode that he'll never watch another Doctor Who again - Chibnall has ruined it.

For me the problem is that I no longer feel any emotional attachment to any of the characters. I suspect it's a combination of poor scripts and poor acting. I watched the final Peter Capaldi episode last night and it felt like a completely different TV show.

I got into DW with Christopeher Eccleston. Loved him but felt some of the storylines and actors lines were defo below the belt for children watching.

But then, they started showing the classic, Docs 1 to 7 on Syfi or Horror or UKgold and thatw as it! HOW did I not like it in childhood???????

So we stick to 1-7 now. Better stories, better characters, better writers.

The only half decent modern writer IMO was Mark Gattis. He seemed to be only one who GOT what DW is.
