That reveal! 😳
Took me ages to figure out what was going on.

I'm sad to say I'm probably going to knock Doctor Who on the head now. I go as far back as Patrick Troughton and loved it but this version is way too patronising in its worthy messages. I also feel it has reverted to being a children's programme, it's just monster chasing.
I've given up on Holby too so the dear old Beeb is barely worth my licence fee for now.

Plastic is bad.

Chemtrails are good.

mencken · 07/02/2020 16:35

too many disconnected millenials in that one, although some nice horror elements.

nothing as horrific as Ryan, though - that chap wouldn't even make it to the school play. How do you get an equity card if you are solid wood?

Yaz has also developed lots of super intelligence, from being the usual no-background companion that we get now. Where did she learn all that - or is it just sloppy writing?

EmpressLangClegInChair · 09/02/2020 19:44

How was tonight’s episode?

jay55 · 09/02/2020 19:49

Dark.
Quite literally, the lighting is so dark.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 20:09

Did others catch the reference to the Toymaker? tardis.fandom.com/wiki/The_Celestial_Toymaker_(TV_story)

RustyBear · 09/02/2020 20:15

Oh yes, we spotted that! And of course the references to the Eternals and the Guardians 'keeping the balance' tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Enlightenment_(TV_story)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 20:20

Absolutely! Grin

RustyBear · 09/02/2020 20:36

I wish they had been able to bring back the Toymaker - it was all set up for MIchael Gough to return in The Nightmare Fair, but then Michael Grade shoved his oar in...

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 09/02/2020 21:08

Yep lots of vintage references - which just jarred with the preachy Mental Health issue week.

RustyBear · 09/02/2020 21:17

Why should it jar? Can't see the problem.

HeyAssbutt · 09/02/2020 21:45

Thought it was better than last week. Felt like the ending was rushed though. Felt like a good build up to some good villains but then it was like "let's just lock the gods up sorted". Trying to stick with it as I've been a huge fan since it came back with eccleston but it's starting to bore me

ShinyGiratina · 09/02/2020 22:17

I'm struggling with this series. There just isn't chemistry between the Doctor and the companions, a joined up progression in plots and just too much worthiness/ moralising.

Watching David Tennant on iplayer and it's just so much more enjoyable and fun.

beguilingeyes · 10/02/2020 07:06

I think there's one too many companions. Get rid of one and the other two might have room to breathe a bit.

SoupDragon · 10/02/2020 07:13

Get rid of Bradley Walsh. DS1 hasn't watched any with him in before and said "Bradley isn't a natural actor is he?"

The ending was seriously rushed. I thought it was a great episode up until they clearly thought "let's wrap this up in 5 minutes!" The nightmare man with the detachable fingers was actually the stuff nightmares are made of. I kept wriggling my finger towards DD . She was unimpressed 😂

RustyBear · 10/02/2020 09:06

It sounded as if it might be Ryan who's on the way out - especially as Tosin Cole has signed up for a new US TV series.

DuckWillow · 10/02/2020 15:59

I think Bradley Walsh is great tbh....loving him in this.

They need to do more with Yaz as she’s a good actress and needs more to do.

lazylinguist · 10/02/2020 16:07

I'm sad to say I'm probably going to knock Doctor Who on the head now.

Me too. It's just so boring and worthy. I really wanted to like the first female Doctor, but i just don't. No chemistry with the companions (who are all pretty tedious too). My dc are bored with it too. Compared with the wonderful David Tennant and Matt Smith, the new Doctor just has no spark or likeableness. Her personality seems to consist of normal woman-next-door with the occasional nod to being a slightly wacky alien. And the worthy moralising is really irritating.

SoupDragon · 10/02/2020 16:35

Bradley is so wooden!

Plus it pisses me off that they dress him like a 70 year old.

mencken · 10/02/2020 17:17

got very bored with that and lots of random mumbly characters.

please, Ryan, just go. Solid wood. Perhaps he is making Graham look good by comparison although I agree, as an actor he is a great game show host.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/02/2020 17:57

I think the stories are becoming a bit over convoluted to 'wrap up' so quickly in one episode.

I'm sure they've used the iconic 'Yaz' in the middle of nowhere scene (with the policewoman/car) before, haven't they? It seemed very familiar to me.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 10/02/2020 20:59

An excellent beginning and middle to that episode - and I thought the fingers were the stuff of nightmares! But the ending...

IsolaPribby · 11/02/2020 12:11

I get a bit Hmm when she just waves the sonic at something and immediately knows all about it, speiling off some gobbledegook!

SoupDragon · 11/02/2020 13:19

The beginning and middle were brilliant. Even the ending was fine - if only there had been some more middle!!

iklboo · 11/02/2020 23:48

That started so well and then.....cack. Sorry but I thought that one was pretty pants.
