That reveal! 😳
Took me ages to figure out what was going on.

I remember Sacha Dhawan from about 20 years ago when he was in the Worst Witch college spin off!

I don't mind any of them too much (although it isn't as good as it was), but I still think it feels like we're getting a heavy-handed moral every episode. It feels like they've made the storylines a bit darker and more grown up, but at the same time lost nuance in the messages of the episodes and it's just "xxx is bad" every single week.

I liked the monsters this week (maybe a bit scary for younger kids?). Ok so they were a bit stereotypical Aliens aliens, and the nicked from Planet of the Apes idea of spotting a sign and realising it's Earth but still fun. They did sledgehammer home the message of humans killing the planet though, several repetitions in case you didn't get it the first time! DD2 was a bit unconvinced by humans mutating into aliens - her comment was that Chernobyl killed people either immediately or by the cancer later - surely that would happen and people would die out before evolution.

Graham is more wooden than then incongruous trees in that desolate landscape. He is dreadful. And he is 59 - why is he dressed like a 70 year old?

I like Yaz and Ryan although I think they would both be better as single companions with room for growth.

This series is better than the last though. Not great, but better.

Spotted Lydia from Breaking Bad in last night's episode. That was the best part, tbh, generally a bit pants otherwise.

I think JW as the Dr lacks all the brilliance of DT or CE or MS - they've made her a bit thick and boring. Even her dull as ditch water companions are more interesting than she is.

She could do with cutting down on that open mouthed stare.

I loved her interactions with the Master though, once she knew it was him. And I’d like to see her doing more angst & seriousness.

big speech for the Doctor at the end - in the hands of Tennant, Eccleston or Smith it would have had some impact. Damp squib here, not helped by the gormless stares of the 'actors' supposed to be reacting to it.

doesn't anyone do auditions any more?

Didn’t mind the episode, but it felt far too preachy, doctor who has always been political at times but it really felt like it was being rammed down our throats here, over and over again.

The one episode only characters were more interesting than any of the companions have been in over a series

Disappointed in this episode - no light and shade, little humour, preachy ending. Not helped by watching "Girl in the Fireplace" in the afternoon - one of my favourite episodes! Although, watching David Tennent's Doctor gleefully announcing "I snogged Madame de Pompadour" made me wonder how Jodie Whitaker would fare with a similar storyline...

I think I’ll skip that one then. This is a really useful thread so far! I read the first couple of posts before I watched Spyfall, expected Barton to be the Master & was totally blindsided by the twist, but I could never be arsed with Monster of the Week.

It was crap. As soon as they said the monsters were called the 'dregs' I said to DP that dregs are leftovers, like dregs of a pint. Dregs of humanity. The writer trying to be clever. From there earth was the only thing it could've been. A bit like the Morlocks in HG Wells the Time Machine.

Having 3 companions doesn't work. I'd rather have 1 great companion than 3 mediocre ones. Ryan is so bloody dull. His monotonous voice is almost as annoying as JW constant over explaining.

Well , that was absolute pants. After two well written episodes we're back to the garbled garbage of last season. And too many companions, so the story is stretched to encompass each of them.

Well, dc were terrified! Bit preachy but the monsters were scary

I’ll be watching with interest to see what the thread thinks of tomorrow’s episode, then I can decide whether to be arsed watching it Grin

OMG! OMG! OMG!

I was at DH's cousin's 40th last night. HIS best mate is SACHA DHARWAN'S cousin. He was going to phone him so I could speak to him but I said no because it was 11pm and I was a bit tiddly. But he did say he would pass on our good wishes to him and tell him we think he's great.

I thought that was a great episode tonight. A fantastic tribute to Tesla, and I enjoyed the rivalry between him and Edison.

The Scorpion Queen reminded me of the Racnoss.

Do you think every episode will have an important historical figure?

Do you think every episode will have an important historical figure?

Last week's didn't. But I did wonder if it was relevant that all the historic characters so far have been important in the history of STEM.

I really enjoyed it too but are they never going to an alien planet ever again???

I'm not enjoying Jodie as the Doctor. She is too manic and just seems to lurch from one lucky solve for a disaster to another. I never get the impression that she is at all capable.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 20/01/2020 07:49

My favourite parts so far have been her conversations with the Master and the visit to Gallifrey, when she managed to drop the manic open-mouthed gaping persona for a bit.
