I watched the semi final of the very first GBBO series yesterday. They made pies, cornish pasties and then tarts and canapes. The whole feel was completely different, and it reinforced how much the programme has deteriorated.

I've finally watched this week's episode. I loved Priya's dress. Anyone else think that Alice looks like the actress Rosamund Pike?

Priya’s dress was lovely, but she’d probably look well-turned out in a sack. Does anyone else think that An Extra Slice has got very glam? — Michelle, Helena and Priya all looked very glossy.

I like Steph’s beady-eyed glint of competitiveness, her bombe and her sweary mum. I wouldn’t have noticed Rosamund Pike in Alice, other than a certain jolly hockey stocks quality?

My dh works away a lot (sometimes 6 days a week) so I reckon I'll watch bake off from the beginning !

@ShadowSardines Steph is "lovely little mouse transformed into a woman". Not sure that's her actual backstory but it's the one I'm going for

Gosh, I think Steph is pure steel, looking out from under that fringe. She’d show you your own heart, smiling, before she finished you off.

This is on my list too. I've never seen it from the beginning. This is only the third series i've watched and it sounds well worth watching if it has deteriorated so much since the old series.

Well I really only watch it for Noel anyway!

I used to love PH ..i know, i know, please don't shout at me!... I have since realised the error of my ways. Whoever said he's like a male silverback hovering in the background is right! I used to feel seduced by those eyes.. not any more. He reminds me of my scary older brother ..even looks like him..

Meh I think Steph's a bit boring.
Competitive certainly.

Finally caught up, I'm not loving this series at all. There's not been a single thing that I've thought "ooh, i fancy trying that".

I agree about the timing - I'm sure the showstoppers used to be 5 hours, now they seem to be 4.5 hours which means things just look rushed or unfinished.

Michael needs to go soon, his throwing himself to the floor is grating on me.

@BooseysMom I couldn't even tell you which series I started at. It was definitely late.

I recorded the repeat of Extra Slice which was on at 1am I watched it yesterday (much earlier) !!! and it was good. Those Lamingtons were unspeakable!!! I like Stacey lot. Priya's hair is lovely but she definitely has a touch of arrogance about her.

I like Steph.

Really hope festival week makes more sense than 1920s week.

Although Henry should have made Semlor (eaten by Swedes on Shrove Tuesday) which is a Cardamom Bun with the top cut off and filled with almond paste and whipped cream!

I have never heard of a semlor, but I want one now. They sound delicious.

I’m still enjoying it - I think I must be in the minority, on this thread at least!

It's pretty dull and there doesn't seem to be a lot of atmosphere - probably the result of over critical judging and random people getting booted for no sane reason
