Old thread

Ten points to DarlingNikita who spotted my deliberate mistake - I meant, of course, "cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the wrong people." Ahem.

Ooooh thanks for the new thread Tragically I was looking for the next one!!

Also thanks for acknowledging me Nikita Hello to you too. Grin

Extra Slice was good yesterday. The 2 leavers of the tent came over well

Samosaurus · 28/09/2019 20:07

Just caught up with this week’s episode and was very surprised by the judges’ decision too. Well I say judges, but really it’s all Paul - Prue just seems to be there as his sidekick and I can’t imagine her disagreeing with him like Mary did.
Mary brought real warmth to the show and could always find something nice to say even about the most disastrous bakes! The show has lost its gentle vibe sadly, which is what made it so watchable!

DarlingNikita · 29/09/2019 15:14

Thanks Tragically!

to ppeat, old mucker Grin

I'm not sure Paul gets to decide who goes home, certainly not unilaterally. When he explained why Phil was kicked off I thought he was struggling to be able to say why.

PinkDaydreams · 29/09/2019 15:25

@Samosaurus completely agree, Prue hardly gets a word in which is a shame.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2019 18:04

Just in case anyone wants to try, I made the Beignets Souflee today. And they were easy peasy and absolutely delicious. I just can’t understand how anyone with even rudimentary baking skills would struggle. I didn’t have any Marsala so I chucked a slug of Baileys into the custardy stuff....

BooseysMom · 30/09/2019 06:39

I am remarkably ungrabbed by this series. "Twenties" just isn't a theme, really. Beignets were an interesting technical but the other two challenges were uninspiring. And the contestants are too homogenous; I don't particularly care which of them wins and I struggle to remember which of them baked what after each episode finishes.

Yep, i feel exactly the same about this series. I've only just got into GBBO and have loved the last few series but they're going to find the ratings plummeting this year. I think Celebrity BO is much better/funnier.

ppeatfruit · 30/09/2019 10:22

Oh I've heard Prue having a quiet 'go' at PH more than once, I was thinking that she's more assertive than Mary, possibly not on camera though. She's more, on a less posh wavelength than M. even though she is is posh ,if you get my meaning!!

But the reasons why the last 2 week's losers have been chosen are strange it's true. I think they should clarify why.

MrsBirkett · 30/09/2019 20:29

This series is lacking something, the bakers are just not grabbing me the way they usually do. I prefer a more varied age range too many young ones this time. Also I feel the bakes are too complicated, too much style over technique. Still watching it though, I love sandie and noel.

PinkDaydreams · 01/10/2019 15:08

It’s bake off night! I’ve got some cake ready to eat whilst watching 😋

DuckWillow · 01/10/2019 15:57

I barely slept last night so I won’t be watching. Am waiting for a decent hour before I have a soak in the bath and go to bed. Bath at 6pm....leisurely soak for an hour and crawl into bed at 7 hopefully for a good 12 hours.

BooseysMom · 01/10/2019 18:02

@duckwillow .. sounds like my kinda night! Enjoy your relaxing time.
I never watch it on the night it's on but wait until Wed so i can watch it in peace with a cake!
Is this more than sad?!...i went to waitrose today to buy my fave cake especially for tomorrow but they were sold out as i was too late so i had to get a pack of pancakes as DS wanted them!
My fave cake is an iced finger and only Waitrose can do a proper one! Grin. What is everyone's fave cake?

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 01/10/2019 18:43

Rosie looks a bit like Winston Churchill. A relative maybe?

My fave cake is a Viennese finger with the ends dipped in chocolate. A staple of my childhood from the local bakery. They were so buttery they melted in the mouth. Not easy to find nowadays.

FuzzyPuffling · 01/10/2019 20:03

I shall have to go and watch on the upstairs telly. DH wants to find out who's fibbing on "Would I Lie to You?" Shall I LTB?

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 01/10/2019 20:05

Fuzzy my dh has ditched Bake Off for the world champs. I got this face Shock when I suggested he record it.

bookbook · 01/10/2019 20:08

well, I wasn't going to watch , but I do love a meringue .
I make a mean pavlova

NumbersStation · 01/10/2019 20:09

And today’s shock exiteer from the bake-off tent will be.......

The cameraman.

S/He’s done a perfectly decent job but s/he doesn’t have a hope of getting a tv series so it is cheerybye time.

LemonRedwood · 01/10/2019 20:12

This is where you all are!

Two hours for full-sized meringue cakes is just utterly ridiculous. Meringue takes two hours in the oven alone (at least). So stupid.

bookbook · 01/10/2019 20:17

style over substance again

SouthWestmom · 01/10/2019 20:19

I feel sorry for Priya, the cream looked fine.

jay55 · 01/10/2019 20:20

Bake off ruining meringues for me.

Surenuff · 01/10/2019 20:21

I found 'The Professionals version of Bake Off much more entertaining. Benoit and Cherish are funny and incisive but never cruel, Tom and Liam were great together. Amateur BO just seems a bit played out somehow.

SouthWestmom · 01/10/2019 20:21

Prue's weird armless jacket is horrid

jay55 · 01/10/2019 20:22

I would love Cherish to take over the tent. Getting her ruler out and expecting perfection.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 01/10/2019 20:23

So that's mini trifle then?
