Old thread

Ten points to DarlingNikita who spotted my deliberate mistake - I meant, of course, "cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the wrong people." Ahem.

Oh!

Here you are.

I've been looking all over for you.

Underhiseye2 · 02/10/2019 22:58

Completely agree. I miss watching them making technically challenging bakes and am going to rewatch old series. Wtf was the 2O's theme all about too? Bring g back chocolate tea cakes, Iced fIngers, hot crust Pastry pies.

DarlingNikita · 03/10/2019 11:09

The bit where the 3 lads were hanging round the fridge discussing geletin was so sweet. Agree. And Sandi: 'I wish I cared.' Grin

I loved this episode. Everyone was funny and relaxed. I loved Steff's deadpan talking about taking things out of the fridge: 'A lot can happen between there and here.' And Henry saying he'd planned what to nick from the tent if he got kicked off. Henry and Steff are officially my favourites now.

I'm glad Priya finally went, but I'm still bitter about Helena going before her.

Steff's bombe sounded and looked like my fantasy pudding. Utterly delicious. Priya's looked like a child made it. Can't even remember any of the others.

Alice is an annoying overly perky Head Girl type. I bet she was a queen bee at school. I quite like Rosie but I wish she'd take a breath and slow down a bit. Michael is pretty funny when he's not flapping.

Ooh so happy to have found you all. I'm seeking refuge from Reddit which used have a great sub but it's been taken over by Americans screaming about spoilers as they don't get new episodes until Friday but apparently can't unfollow a sub or the Instagram. Hmm

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2019 19:42

Sit down inky and have a cuppa tea. There's jaffa cakes if you want one.

We're all very friendly here, especially if you can't stand Paul Hollywood.

(You get bonus points if you loathe Gregggggg from Masterchef, too - we tend to be pretty much the same crowd)

ilovetofu · 03/10/2019 22:13

Henry really grates with me 😬

Ohyesiam · 04/10/2019 08:40

I really loved how Priya talked about starting with the things you love when you’re struggling. Very heartfelt and genuine.
She is a loss for me personality wise, though not necessarily bake wise!

But its Noel I watch for. He’s my most unlikely crush ever Shock. Seeing him as Laurence of Arabia , my kids nearly had to
scoop me up off the floor. That man could do all sorts to me.

But Paul Hollywood, he stalks around like a predatory silver back ape. Can’t shake a female’s Hand. Every thing is a dull power game with him.
There’s not many people I’m prepared to slag off on line, but he’s exempt from my usual good manners!

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/10/2019 08:52

But its Noel I watch for. He’s my most unlikely crush ever .

Me too! It's the only reason I'll keep watching. He's my number 1 crush and has been since The Mighty Boosh. He's grown up since then and filled out but still lovely.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 08:54

I’ve gone off Noel slightly since I discovered that his daughter’s called Dali...

PinkDaydreams · 04/10/2019 10:18

Does anyone know who makes the technical example? When Paul and Mary/Prue are sat at the table cutting into and eating the example of the technical that they want, I can’t imagine them making it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/10/2019 10:32

Dali isn't the worst name I've heard and he is an artist - I'll forgive him for that Grin.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 10:33

I suppose he didn’t call her Salvador....

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/10/2019 10:36

I suppose he didn’t call her Salvador.
Dora for short, I quite like that.

ShadowSardines · 04/10/2019 12:31

I too am mourning Priya's hair, which I used to stare at -- it was mesmerisingly shiny and perfect. Like a bombe with a very good mirror glaze...

I like Rosie, actually, though her eyeshadow occasionally distracts me -- her chicken was a thing of wonder, and her elephant and lion breads. And I like Steph who looks disconcertingly like one of my seven-year-old's best friends suddenly grown up.

But what is Steph's 'story'? Everyone has obviously been cast for their story -- from what I remember, even the initial application form when I last looked at it, wanted to know what else you were bringing to the show other than baking ability. Henry is 'Durham English student, singing, organ-playing nice boy with ties'. Michael is 'sweet, dimpled, parental string quartet, Asian heritage meaning some unusual flavours.' David is 'health fanatic, pottery-loving fitness-freak gay heart-throb.' Rosie is 'mad baking vet with horse syringes.' Helena was Spanish Goth with amusing dress sense. Michelle was a professional Welshwoman. Priya was thoughtful Asian wannabe novelist with Fabulous Hair. Phil was biker/lorrydriver older man. Jamie was 'sweet but useless student' etc etc.

But what is Steph?

derxa · 04/10/2019 16:19

I can't stand Prue. She gets nastier every episode. Noel has been a revelation. He's so kind which I didn't expect.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 16:38

I’d get nastier every episode if I was judging a baking competition and none of the contestants could bake.

BooseysMom · 04/10/2019 19:41

So good to hear there are so many Noel fans out there. I was going to apply this year. I can't bake for toffee ..it was only so i could meet Noel, the only man for me. How dare he be married with a baby! I would have never got on and if i had, i would have been kicked out after the first programme for being a shite baker and a crazy Noel stalker ShockGrin

NumbersStation · 04/10/2019 21:12

@BertrandRussell GrinGrin

I dressed up as Tony Harrison’s wife for a mighty boosh show once. I like to think that Noel or the lovely Julian spotted me in the crowd.

There ain’t that many of us pink head and tentacles combos going about. 🐙

NumbersStation · 04/10/2019 21:15

@ShadowSardines

I think Steph was a the ‘no confidence/didn’t know how good she was’ story.

OkayGo · 04/10/2019 22:23

Just popping in to say how much I love Noel Smile

ageingdisgracefully · 05/10/2019 12:31

I also love Noel. Smile. Best part of the show.

I found Priya very annoying on Extra Slice last night.

Tonnerre · 05/10/2019 13:19

Agree, I can’t warm to Steph. I think she is secretly very competitive. The look on her face when the judges were trying all the contestants showstoppers and giving their comments

Never judge people by these reaction shots, they edit them in at will. The chances are that in fact she was looking pleased or annoyed at something totally different, even on a different day.

Tonnerre · 05/10/2019 13:23

But what is Steph?

The one who's very good at baking. Also something to do with classic cars - I remember DH perking up when that was mentioned in the first show.

ppeatfruit · 05/10/2019 15:31

Steph is that amazing coffee and chocolate bombe, she's not afraid of using flavours that actually work even if they are traditional. Some of the others use weird combinations and wonder why they're not chosen as star baker. She is young and unsure of herself wonder if she could cope with the publicity if she wins.
