Old thread

Ten points to DarlingNikita who spotted my deliberate mistake - I meant, of course, "cutting the judges' comments to make it LOOK as though they are sending home the wrong people." Ahem.

Agree, I can’t warm to Steph. I think she is secretly very competitive. The look on her face when the judges were trying all the contestants showstoppers and giving their comments Hmm

Peanutbatter · 02/10/2019 10:39

Best thing I've ever tasted
I thought you'd have given her a handshake
Nah, I like to give the laydeees something else to shake
Bleugh , Noel, can you pass me that mixing bowl

NumbersStation · 02/10/2019 12:09

The weird creeping was not convincing to me either. I would like to imagine there was a hint of reluctance to it. Smile

Maybe they have been told that if they champion PH’s champion, they will get a little baking article in Take a Break or something.

I can’t understand why Steph was curled up on the sofa looking like she was going to be shot at dawn evicted from the tent. After doing well in everything and being told that her ‘bakes’ were exquisite/best thing he’d ever eaten.

I understand self doubt and thinking that others were better than you. But not after being told that you ‘baked’ like an angel. She could not possibly have thought that she was going home.

She may well be a fantastic baker. Not disputing that.

But I don’t buy the frightened mouse act. There’s a steely self assured steely thing in there.

5foot5 · 02/10/2019 12:37

My true love is Henry though

Me too! But as a mother obviously!

BTW I forgot, what did they say the theme was next week

GCAcademic · 02/10/2019 13:27

Next week is carnival or festivals or something.

willywillywillywilly · 02/10/2019 14:00

I will be sad to not see Priya's amazing hair every week Grin.. so beautiful! I think she deserved to go for previous weeks' performances as well as this week though.

I like Steph, and David.

FawnDrench · 02/10/2019 14:19

I wonder if Rosie is actually a dark horse who will triumph rather stealthily in the last few episodes - and they've purposely kept the focus off her.

But then again I'm probably talking bollocks...

BooseysMom · 02/10/2019 14:20

i can't warm to Alice at all. My true love is Henry though

DH does a perfect impression of Alice. He hates her and has to turn away every time she speaks!

I love Henry too..but only in a maternal way of course. I love the fact he makes a effort to dress smartly in a geek chic style

This is a baking programme is it?. Oh..Is there baking?

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 02/10/2019 14:36

I can't admit my love of Henry is maternal Hmm He's nearly young enough to be my son, but I just, I dunno. He's funny.

awaits to be carted off for inappropriateness

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 02/10/2019 14:37

I'm also a mother so I should know better Grin

Kit19 · 02/10/2019 14:44

My love for Henry started off as maternal but it’s changing & I don’t know what to do - help!

I’m not convinced Steph has this sewn up. I remember richard the builder from series 5 (?) was star baker 4 times but blew it in the final

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2019 15:02

Aaah Sherrloid remember that the editors can manipulate the programme to make anything look like (a jealous face) or (a miserable face) to give the viewers any ideas they want to.

ilovetofu · 02/10/2019 15:02

I don't know why no one likes Alice! She seems lovely.
I can imagine her being a great teacher.
🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

ilovetofu · 02/10/2019 15:03

And she's really good at baking!

ilovetofu · 02/10/2019 15:03

Jeeeze.

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2019 15:13

I bet she IS a good teacher, her enthusiasm is a little too OTT for the programme (and me tbh), she should also remember that maxim about less is more. She is very sweet though.

merryhouse · 02/10/2019 15:25

I totally love Henry as a lovely young man from a 50-yo's perspective.... while being acutely aware that if I'd met him when I was 18 I would have made a Total Ass of myself Grin

merryhouse · 02/10/2019 15:28

... and he was so sure he was gone, wasn't he? That blotchy not-crying face and snuggling on David's shoulder... aww

Michael was equally certain it was him.

They (possibly) both got lucky that there was still Priya left, but I'm glad they're still there.

ILoveYou3000 · 02/10/2019 15:40

Not sure if it's been mentioned previously but apparently Henry and Alice are dating one another.

He's my favourite, I love his humour. I can't warm to any of the women this year.

Kit19 · 02/10/2019 16:35

@ILoveYou3000 Alice has said that isn’t true & that she already has a bf & the other contestants have also said same

We still have to wait for the first bake off romance.....

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 02/10/2019 17:22

I don't think Henry was any real risk to go tbh. He did a good job in the first round and was OK in technical wasn't he? So him being a bit poor in the Showstopper wasn't going to put him out. That said, stranger things have happened on that show.

Dan from last years BO is convinced due to editing that he is being primed for the winner (much like Rahul was given rather favourable editing last year)

BooseysMom · 02/10/2019 17:36

Best thing I've ever tasted
I thought you'd have given her a handshake
Nah, I like to give the laydeees something else to shake

Rofl! Grin The only explanation is he must have been told to ease off on the handshakes. But yeah, it doesn't make any sense..the best thing he has ever eaten surely deserved a handshake! Confused

SanFranBear · 02/10/2019 21:19

Not surprised Steff got Star Baker, and think she deserved it... her bombe in particular, was exquisite.

That said, all three challenges barely touched on baking... yes meringue is baked, but it's not that technically hard; plain fucking biscuits and a dribble of streusel for the technical; one, just one baked element in the showstopper!

That is what is making me switch off - I want to see them fucking BAKE! I'm not overly engaged with the bakers (although glad Michael dodged the bullet, again!) but would happily watch them (without my constant whining) if they just baked! I want to see them use their ovens to make incredible cakes and biscuits and goodies! Pies and pastries, bread and scones, cupcakes and muffins, cookies and macaroons..

On your marks, get set, BAKE is meaningless now Angry

BooseysMom · 02/10/2019 21:22

Yeah they're scraping the barrel now tbh. They obv can't think of enough things for them to bake that are different. It will become the Great British Cook Off before long

gabsdot45 · 02/10/2019 21:22

Henry is adorable.
The bit where the 3 lads were hanging round the fridge discussing geletin was so sweet.
